Trying not to get discouraged

  • Well, weight loss has prety much stopped in my 1200 ada diet. My joints do seem to feel better, but only lost 1 pound last week. Hello, Prednisone!!! I did eat out a few times though...hubby took me out for Mexcian food for Valentines Day. I guess I should be blessed I did not gain all I lost this past month. Just needed to vent...hope all is well with everyone. Take Care!!

Hey there! Don't be discouraged! I completely understand the frustration....but I saw that you have lost 10 pounds-that's AMAZING!!!!!! Good for you! And, you also lost a pound last week? Oh, don't be discouraged....you're allowed to hit plateau points along the way and to be treated like a queen by your husband @ a fun dinner out once in awhile! The important thing is that you're out there doing what you need to do the majority of the time-and still have your goal in sight! I think 10 pounds is fabulous and I applaud you!!! I hope this brightens your day just a bit.
  • Do either of you understand WHY predinone makes you gain weight? or prevent weight loss? I suppose the why doesn't really matter.... but you'd think that might help "get around" the problem.
  • What is?
Sorry but what is Predinone? Is this a HRT drug? I am taking an estrogen drug right now but dr wants me to start on progestren? soon? I already feel I gained some weight in the mid section and constantly feel like my tummy is bulging, I certainly don't need anymore meds to add to that....help!!
  • Prednisone is a steroid. It is used to treat inflammation and some conditions where the immune system is in over drive. I was given it when I had mono...and it causes weight gain for some. Me? My reaction was anxiety. I ended up on Xanax to calm me down enough to sleep! I am sorry, I don't know much about HRT...my doctor will not allow me to take it, which is ok with me. My sister had breast cancer, and they said it was probably from her Premarin...so it is a no no for me to take any HRTs.
  • I understand, hoping to not be on it for long, just to get my hormones in place, so the dr says. I do know he wants to start me on the other one so I don't land up with cancer, so I guess I will maybe research it abit more. I do feel alot better taking these meds though....but what are the health risks right?
  • I wish I knew...from Kentucky USA
I wish I knew what makes Prednisone such a downer for dieters, including myself. I was doing so well...lost 10 pounds in a month...and then BAM!!!! I have not lost anything in over two weeks. Still on the same dosage of Prednisone. It really makes my ego deflate after all the dieting! And I am on a low calorie (1200) diet. Maybe I need to change up and go low fat or something. I don't know. But this weight has got to go!! My PA is forcing my hand, and my joints are not going to carry this extra person I am carrying ( so to speak...) much longer. My back and legs hurt so bad I can hardly walk more than what is necessary to get around at work and home. Any suggestions on a diet change to re-boost the weight loss??????? I do know this...Prednisone is the !!!!

    Stuck in an endless rut....

  • My first post
I wish i knew how to lose rather than gain weight on prednisone, but even my Rhumetologist told me it was difficult. Although this time no weight gain which is progress. My only suggestion is to continue to watch portion sizes and keep healthy snacks around it has helped me! If anyone has any other ideas please share.
On a side note is there anyone out there with Lupus and firbromyalgia struggling to feel more healthy and fit?
