Some of you are getting a lot of comment spam. If you allow comments on your blog, make use of the Discussion Settings located in your admin panel.

Click your Settings tab which is to the right side of your blog admin. Then select the Discussions tab.

Under Before a Comment Appears you'll have the following options:
*An administrator must always approve the comment
*Comment author must fill out name and e-mail
*Comment author must have a previously approved comment
Select at least the last two options.

Under this is Comment Moderation. Make sure you have 1 in the box for the comment queue. This will prevent any post that includes a link from appearing automatically and you have to approve it.

Comment Blacklist Make good use of this! Any word that you enter here will automatically block a comment that contains it and it will be treated as spam. Be careful and do not include common words. Add words that you have noticed appearing in your spam comments, such as viagra or pharmacy, or add profanity to your list. For example, a recent influx of comment spam has included the word kansascity. Enter that word and if this spammer comments on your blog, it will be blocked.

I have my blog set to screen comments before posting, however the amount of spam I get is really ridiculous. I get probably 1-2 comments a day sometimes and they are all for old entries and are spam. Is this common with other users? I know that the mods are doing a lot to reduce spam but it feels like my blog is infected or something.
