Bad spam?

I think there's a spam problem on the blogs. On mine, at least, there's a list of drug names where the Updated Blogs bloglist should be.

Yeah I've been having problems too in two days I got over 100 spam comments. Yikes! I had no idea spam would hit blogs

Reporting in to you on Sat. 11/3:

The Updated & New Blogs are again sporting spammity spam... Offering cheap drugs, credit, etc. The dastardly weasel seems to be one MONGO blog that is listing a TON of junk taking up most of the current lists, starting with "Low apr credit" and ending with "Ringtones".

I had quite a few comments waiting for me when I got back from vacation. I didn't pay attention to the dates they were posted. I marked all as spam and moved on. Until today. I just got my 4th for the day, maybe even 5th..I've lost count! All are attaching to the July 25th blog for some reason.
Is there any way to stop this? Or will I just have to put up with the inconvenience caused by people with nothing better to do?

Nicki, did the comments from that day look strange? Were they in brackets? If so, that was trackback spam. To disable that, go to Options... Discussion.. then uncheck next to 'allow link notifications from other weblogs'. I think that will take care of it. If it's regular spam and not trackback spam, then there's nothing that can be done, other than blocking comments from anyone not logged in. If you get anymore, could you PM me so I can check it before you delete it?

It's weird because even though I deleted my blog (i wasn't using it and the spam was going crazy) I am still getting spam in my email saying they are commenting on my blog. It's the same kind of spam Nikki was talking about

The spam is generated by a 'bot' or script used by spammers. They don't always visit the site to do it. They probably picked up your blog from the google cache and the bot found you that way. Deleting your blog doesn't delete your account, just your blog. I can delete your account so it will stop, if you'll PM me with your blog username. In the meantime, I'm going to investigate this with the blog program developers to see if they have any suggestions for stopping it. If it's happening to you then it is probably happening to others. I"m sorry :(
