Adrienne My SC doctor told me about MFP and I started using it because he told me that he used it. For a while there tracking wasnít working for me but I think my mind set is at the place where it will work for me again. I try not to guess to much on things too. There are foods that I have actually gone in and put the new or correct info from the box or can so I can at least get it exact. Then there are times that I just go with whatever is closest even if it is a different brand. When Iím doing this like I should, I actually eat less calories than I allow myself so that I allow for errors. The main thing it helps me with too is moving whether it is exercise or just house cleaning.

Ann DH and I both like to sleep in a cold bedroom covered up but I use more cover than he does. I donít know about him, but I think mine comes from when I was growing up. Even when we moved into a house with central air and heat as a teenager, Daddy turned the furnace off maybe for safety sake not sure, and I was always the first one up on school days so it was my chore to get up in a freezing house and turn on the heat for everybody else. It wasnít a problem for me back then because Mama would get so mad at me because I didnít want to wear a coat to school. LOL She would be shocked at how cold I get now.

Carol Sue I use both depending on my mood. I like using golden mushroom soup but DH likes cream of chicken soup. DS uses regular mushroom soup even in her roasts. So as you well know dealing with our picky Hubbies, I mostly use cream of chicken soup. DS told me she cooked a roast the other day with mushroom soup and sprinkled some the powdered ranch dressing mix in it and it was delicious. I donít know if DH would eat that or not. I see recipes on line all the time I would love to try but he would never eat it.

Weight back down to 186.2 this morning. FBG was 114 but I got busy and forgot to check earlier although I was still fasting. If I wait too long I miss my low so no problem.

Got a text from my beautician and she has been exposed to covid. I donít think I would get it if I went but we decided I wonít go just in case. She has had covid so shouldnít get it and no symptoms so far. She is working and doing customers who have already had it too. Those of us who havenít had it are not going. So I will need to wash my hair tonight and do it because I need to go to the grocery store to get DH Farxiga. I also want to get some beef. I donít usually get it at this particular local store but will see what they have. This chain is known as beef store, but each store seems to cater to their own customers. I guess I need to learn more about it now that I have to get meds at this one. I used to go here just for quick items when I didnít want to go across town. Now I need to get better acquainted with it. Iíve been hungry for liver and onions, but they arenít the store that has individually wrapped liver frozen. That store is across from Samís so will have to wait until we go to Samís again.

Cooking cod fish today. I am so tired of salads so will make salad for DH and green beans for me. Calories are staying between 1000 to 1100 right now which is good.

Have a nice day everybody.

Trish, I use mushroom soup on my roasts too. It makes, such a tasty gravy on a beef roast but DH won't eat it. Surprise, surprise. It keeps the roast so moist. I think I will use cream of chicken soup or chicken gravy. Not sure. I bought some small sirloin steaks at Wal-Mart so those will be our meals for Saturday and Sunday. I want to go to Rodneys tomorrow. We haven't been there since before Christmas.

I bought some bagels. I love them but rarely buy them. They were an impulse buy today. I really want one but I ate low carb today because weigh in day is tomorrow. But once I get weighed tomorrow that will be my weigh in day treat. Then I will put the rest in the freezer for another time.

I hope your hairdresser doesn't get covid.

I'm going to drink some sleepy time tea and go to bed.

I guess I need to go back to fasting until 3 pm everyday because I have a tendency to eat in the evening any way. So my 8 hr eating window needs to start at 3 pm. Since I don't g.o to bed until midnight or 1 am, it won't ruin my diet or fast, So I will get back to that tomorrow. My mornings are usually too busy for me to eat breakfast any way. Obviously the idea of eating breakfast will keep you from eating more later, does not apply to me.

Carol Sue I forget about my sleepytime tea. Hope you can get a good nights sleep.

I agree, Trish. "If you skip breakfast you will get hungry and over eat later in the day." I want to meet the person who thought this up. It was someone who is "an authority" on nutrition and weight control, not someone who actually had a weight problem. That is probably true for some people but we are all different and it doesn't apply to all. First of all, hunger has nothing to do with my eating. The first bite of food revs up my appetite and I'm eating all day, so for me it's better for me to break my fast later in the day. I agree that you should adjust your eating window to your lifestyle. We each need to evaluate all the different "food rules" and adopt the ones that work best for us.

Ann, I was thinking about your blood sugar testing. You have made good changes that should and will improve your blood sugar readings, but it takes time to improve fasting blood sugar. Its not like flipping a switch. Our bodies don't like when we make changes. Before now, you were not testing regularly so you were not aware of your trend up to this point. I suggest you record each reading in such a way that you can track your ups and downs.

Today is weigh in day and I'm a nervous wreck. I don't think I have the proper mind set for this. I might be better off if I paid more attention to daily weights as I notice I am basing my eating on how far I am from weigh in day. I remember once I wanted to be thinner by Christmas but I thought Christmas so far off and didn't do anything about it until December. That didn't work. I need a new plan, but first I need to get this weigh in over with and move forward.

Carol: you have often stated you don't understand dawn phenomenon, but you described it perfectly there.
Yes Ann, you have lots of stored glucose in your liver. Not eating sugar helps you to move it out of your liver, but it will take a while. Fatty liver is basically glucose storage.
This is an ok thing if we are not overweight and don't have too much fat in the liver, but diabetes and pre-diabetes if very much a disease of over storage of glucose, usually over many years.
You may even hear that Dr. Fung sees this "dumping" while fasting as a good thing, because yes, we want to get rid of it when we have stored too much. I would not be worried about your value of 107. Its not terrible, and you will go in the right direction over time with your new eating habits. Keep up the good work.
I don't know if you are testing for ketones, but if you have ketones in the evening, but not in the morning, it is likely because your body has been dumping that stored glucose. Again, its ok, in that it needs to get out of there. I will be having my repeat test, a "fibroscan" of my liver to determine if I am making progress on reducing the fatty stores in my liver. This will take place in March. (Just heard from the doctor this week). I have labs booked in early February, both for my family doc and the liver specialist. I want to be really good for the next couple of months.
I had 2 eating days since last on, and plan to fast today. I am sitting in a sunny window, and the cold arctic air is coming down, it will be very cold again tonight. But for now its not too bad so I will take the dog out while DH has a zoom meeting. Buddy's paw is healing nicely. I took the two stitches out yesterday that the vet wanted out, and I will remove the other's early next week if they have not dissolved in the meantime. (I never dissolve my stitches like I should). He is walking fine and I am no longer wrapping it for walks. Next week he can play with other dogs and go to the dog park again.

Fasting today, and am thinking about what to plan for the eating tomorrow. Have a good day friends.

good evening

We are at 16 here and headed for an Arctic blast down into the double digits below zero from tonight through tomorrow evening. Horribly windy, Otis wasn't happy going out in it, so I had to insist. I wait right at the door for him to come back. Sunday night into Monday we have 6-12 inches of snow coming. Heard we could end with an icy mix and power outtages. UGH.

Thank you for the information on FBS. I tracked it for my dad when he was diagnosed, if he was under 175 we cheered. First thing this morning before even water I was 113, a bottle of water and an hour later it was 112, at 5 pm 6 hours after breakfast it was 110. As someone who always had lab tests in the low 90's , I admit I panicked. this meter keeps several months of test stored and I am writing down for reference.

What I am trying to do is find a new PCP. I would like to make an appointment and discuss this issue, also never had an A1C done, When the one I love retired they just assigned me to some guy, and I prefer a female. I called the medical center and it did not go well when I said I wanted to chose a new one. Girl kept repeating that I had 'been assigned' to another Dr. Um, sorry but I like to chose my own Dr. I was told that the only ones accepting new patients were the one they assigned me to and another male. So I am on the hunt, waiting for a place to return my call, although it will mean a 45 mile drive to the Dr. It is the same place I go for orthpaedics for my knee. I have been having a lot of pain in left shoulder so I looked up my Dr and was going to call and see if he also did shoulders, well he is no longer there. This is as bad as 2018 when my gynecologist and my hairdresser retired the same month.

Results from PCR test are not back, said 2-3 days, but with the holiday weekend coming up i am not sure when I will get them. I have isolated since Sunday so 5 more days or so is not a big deal.

I just had a bowl of asparagus and I think I want something more, so sad I have no Keto ice cream left.

Have a good evening

Have to say I have done very little today, still have a stuffy head and dry cough, but I just feel so worn out. I bumped the heat up to 66, for the cold snap. Actually looking forward to getting into bed with the electric blanket. I turn it on an hour before I go to bed so it is toasty.

We are in the 5-9 inch band for Sunday's snow storm. We usually get less than they predict. We bought a generator 20+ years ago in case of a power outage but never had to use it. Step son borrowed it once. I hope we don't need it.

My dog never has issues going out in the cold but we don't get as cold as you, Ann. Our old sliding glass door used to freeze shut. The dog we had then would not "go" out front. If we made him go out the front he would run around to the back. Then he would stand at the back door to be let in, but the door was frozen shut! Quite an experience.

I'm sorry you are having a problem finding a doctor. I prefer male doctors. I have gone to the same one for 25 years. The thing I like is I can say no to him. If he retires there are 2 younger doctors in his practice to take over. Twin brothers, actually.

I ate some things today I don't usually eat. Too many carbs. It was because of weigh in day. I hate the word "cheat" day but I will get back to lower carb for the next 6 days and work on sticking to my eating window. I think I was sleeping better when I went to bed hungry.

DH bought a cherry pie at the local grocery. He said it tastes old and will return it tomorrow. Then he found cherry pie filling down in the pantry but it expired 2 years ago! So he brought up a can of pumpkin and I made a pumpkin pie for him. I know that was only left from Thanksgiving. He has to have his sweets.

I fell asleep watching my soaps. DH let me sleep then woke me up to go out to eat. It was hard to wake up from a sound sleep and go out. I just wanted something small so we went to Bob Evans. They have a nice selection of small meals under $10. That makes 5 weeks since we went to Rodneys. Rodneys is my favorite restaurant but I like Bob Evans for a small home style meal.

Ann, I hope you feel better and get your test results back. If its covid, it sounds like a mild case.

Ann I hope you will be able to get your doctor issues straitened out hope you feel better soon. I hate having to find a new doctor. One of the reasons it took me so long to move back to TX from SC was that I had a wonderful doctor that I didnít want to leave. We had a good female doctor when we first moved here and then she moved. It took a while to find a new one but he is very good too. I chose my Medicare Advantage plan because I could keep him. Hope you feel better soon and if it is covid that it will be mild.

Mad So glad Buddyís little paw is healing so well. You havenít said anything or I missed it... are you feeling better not worried about covid?

Carol Sue I am thinking that WI days donít work well for me either. I always go heavier on things DH likes the first few days of the new week and try to eat lighter/healthier as I move toward WI day. Perhaps that is why I keep moving back and forth between the same calories.

Today didnít go as planned. DH decided around 2 am that he wanted to go with me to the store and we would go to Walmart as well as the local grocery to get his meds. One thing that helped me successfully fast was going to both stores. I ended up eating less than 1100 calories and between 4 hr eating window. In spite of my eating a lot of calories yesterday, my weight this morning was 185 down 1.4 lb from yesterday. I donít understand it but glad to see it.

That cold weather dips and actually cools us down but wraps around us so that what you are getting is missing us. Yíall stay warm, safe and healthy. Good night.

Good morning,
Up to -4 degrees. So cold and bitter with wind gusts 20-30 MPH. Not leaving the house today.

I got a notification at 11 pm that my covid test came back positive I am a bit freaked out. I am triple vaccinated, always wear a mask in public and have a very limited number of people I see. My symptoms are mild thanks to vaccine, but I find it upsetting that as careful as I am, I still got infected. We have mask mandate at all the grocery stores but this new variant is so easy to transmit. I have a bit of cold symptoms still but manageable.

Talking about weigh in days, I find that if i make myself get on the scale every day, and record it, I do better at sticking to my food plan. Upsetting if I am up a lb or so for no reason, but I chalk it up to undigested food or water if I have been honest in my food log. Logging also is a critical tool for me. Sometimes I write down my food log in the morning with all I plan to eat that day. I have no choices to make about what I am eating, I follow the plan. What ever it takes to stay OP, I will do.

I placed an order with Sams club yesterday in anticipation of going into isolation. Coffee and toilet paper are 2 things I need to get by another week. I am down to 9 eggs so I will have to make them last. I have a big jar of dehydrated eggs, I keep them on hand for recipes or coating meat that I am breading. I wouldn't dream of eating them for breakfast.

I am going to finish my coffee and get dressed to do a lot of nothing. I do have some slippers I started knitting before Xmas that I could work on.

Stay warm

Hi friends: Oddly I am 159 today, up 2 pounds. I ate 2 days in a row, but didn't think I went crazy. Fasted yesterday. I should have been down to "normal" but was up. Not sure if I am holding onto fluids or what. Will eat carefully today. Had a mushroom and cheese omelet to start. Also a couple of spoons of the probiotic sauerkraut that I enjoy so much. I have upped my probiotics as well, and hope to "reset" my gut and hope that will help my reflux.

Ann: I hope this stays mild for you. Part of me would like to get this mild variant and feel "done with it" but you never know who will have a bad reaction. One of the families here in my community had it. Only the son, 19 years old, had it bad. I was worried for the Mum, as she is a cancer survivor and not terribly healthy, but she was mild, just very tired. She also works as a PSW and gave it other client, a woman with spina bifida who is wheelchair bound. She also had only a mild case. From there it went to our friend who also works as one of her PSWs. He had a mild case. We were exposed to him while a bit sick, which is why we thought we might have it. My rapid test was negative, and we can't get a PCR test here right now, the system is nearly overwhelmed. So we won't know.
It has never been like this, where I know so many people who have it. Fortunately, all mild enough to stay away from needed hospital care.
In other new, are you being hit by the Nor'Easter that is pounding Nova Scotia?
Here, its just very cold, -21C or -6 F. Buddy seems fine in the cold, though I put some vaseline on his paw pads to prevent frostbite. Our walk this morning was just 20 minutes instead of the usual 35-35 minutes. I was bundled up well, but my face really felt the cold. I wore a scarf over part of my face, but my eyes felt like they could freeze!

The only condensed soup I can have now, as far as I know, is a brand called Aylmer, their condensed mushroom soup is GF. DH hates mushroom soup, (he loves mushrooms so go figure) so I have never used it in cooking. I have made homemade bťchamel sauces to use with casseroles, but he is not one for casseroles in general.

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

Mad, my DH doesn't like casseroles either. He says casseroles are for women, and I like casseroles. They are easy to prepare. I have a recipe to use instead of the cream soups but the cream soups are so easy and tasty. DH mostly likes to see all his food separately. Step son is the same. He always ate his meat first, then sides if he was still hungry.

Ann, I'm sorry to hear your test is positive but glad its mild. 9 eggs wouldn't last long here. I buy eggs as soon as I get down to 3 dozen. I used to get down to 1 dozen then buy 3, but now I buy 1 when down to 3. They are my number 1 food. DH is like that with coffee and sugar.

Trish, I am keeping my Friday weigh in but will force myself to get back on plan on Saturday. For now. I really want to make this work. I have to stop making excuses for falling off the wagon. When I hear of people like Ann who stay on plan NO MATTER WHAT I know that I am blaming my downfalls on everyone and everything but myself. It is very hard when living with someone like my DH. My food plan is not as strict as hers, but I need to follow it. 1 lb a week is not much but if I stick to this I will be 140 by 2023. The only thing stopping me is me.

This morning DH ate pumpkin pie for breakfast. No cooking, but he offered to cook for me. I said later, which could be any time. Maybe if I make sure he has baked goods on hand all the time he will never cook breakfast again. He only started that in the past couple years. I could get back to longer fasts. The baked goods mostly don't interest me. The reason I quit baking is because once the kids were gone there was too much for just him to eat and it was getting thrown out. But I am ok with throwing it out if I get to fast longer as a result. Or maybe I could figure out how to half a cake mix. I have half size pans. This gives me something to work on!

"In spite of eating a lot of calories yesterday my weight was down 1.4.". Trish, I'm understanding this more now that I've read about how different foods are digested....fat, carbs and protein. Protein burns the most calories being digested. This is why the say calories don't count, but sites like MFP count calories. It is a way to keep a permanent record of what you ate, but the counts for protein, fat and carbs are more important than the calorie count. I think the key is not to increase protein but to decrease carbs.

My weight is back up to 190 but I am not concerned because yesterday was a high carb low protein day. It will come back down and take another lb with it. Today I am cooking the little steaks I bought. They are thicker than I like but I will pound them with a tenderizer. Tomorrow will be the pork chops in the cream soup. One tv station says it will start snowing at 9 pm, 5-10 inches. Another station says it will start at 5 pm, 8-12 inches.

Ann So sorry you tested positive, but hopefully having the natural immunity will cause this to be over for you. Iíve heard a lot of doctors say that natural immunity is the best. I wouldnít mind knowing I have had it and am over it, but donít want to purposely get it probably for the same reasons Fatmad stated. I wonít ever know if I have had it because I havenít tested. I have allergies and usually assume that is what it is. I had 2 times when this started that I thought I had a mild case of the original and I just quarintined myself for 14 days both times to be sure.

Iíve had the 2 shots but not the booster because they stopped giving them for some reason at our doctorís office. I could go get it booster at the pharmacy but want to see my doctor next month and find out why they stopped giving. DS goes to the same drs office I do different doctor and she and DBIL got theirs when they first got them. We were on the list, but was never called so I just figured they were giving it to those with health issues which DH and I donít have. So I was surprised when I talked to the nurse and she said they arenít giving them right now. I do have to say that I have a problem with a company who is making a vaccine that they are putting in my body and wonít reveal all that is in it for 75 years. How do they make the vaccine to give if they canít tell you what is in it? Doesnít make sense to me. Any way, DH and I will trust our doc to guide us.

Fatmad Iím sure your weight bump is temporary. I get those sometimes and it upsets me, but I am learning they just happen. Glad you were able to find a GF friendly cream soup. Hopefully they will come out with some more of those for you in the future.

I know what you mean about certain people getting covid especially those with health problems. DBIL is off Monday for MLK day and DS said something about us all going out to eat. She and he both have had covid the original and fully vaxxed, but he is having cataract surgery the next 2 weeks and I told her that I donít think they should be around anyone who might have covid of any kind. It appears that the omicron though milder is able to manifest itself regardless of what precautions are taken.

Carol Sue My hubby wonít eat casserols either. I personally think there are a lot of really great healthy ones that might even help lower his BS, but like your DH he doesnít want his food mixed together. He eats salad first, then the meat and finishes, then a veggie and I keep diet dessert for him to finish with. We watch the guy who travels all over Europe and when he went to Holland, he showed how the Dutch eat. They place all the food on the table... up to 20 or more different dishes of veggies, meat, fruit etc and everyone would take one item and eat it, then the next item of food and so on. It explained a lot to me as to how DH eats because his ancestors were Dutch. The way we learned that is that his last name is actually the name of a city in Holland and one of his specialist docs in SC used to go there every year to see his brother who lived close to that town.

Today is WI day and I am surprised that I actually lost 2.6 lbs this week with weight being 185. Although I want to keep an official WI day, Iíve decided to treat it like any other when I eat. I usually make pizza on WI day, but I donít think I have enough mozzeralla cheese so I decided to cook a balanced meal today. Iíve got chicken legs and thighs in the crockpot. I will take them out and transfer to the air-fryer and baste with SF BBQ sauce and let it get a little crispy. We will have a salad and veggie with it.
I think I am beginning to find a way to eat so that it will become a lifestyle that I can live with. My goal right now is to get back into the 170s I was in before I went off eating for the holidays.

Have a great day and stay warm everybody.

Hello everyone! Sorry i've been MIA for a few days. Last Wednesday I had the beginnings of a little cough that got worse as the day went on and then a sore throat that night. By Thursday morning I woke up with chills, feeling like I had the flu. So I wasted no time calling work and going in to get a covid test, PCR. I knew I couldn't risk going to work this weekend if I had either the flu or covid but I needed to be sure. Unfortunately it came back positive for covid. Like you Ann I do mask anywhere I go, of course I do work in a hospital, but people here in Georgia spend more time declaring their rights to walk around without masks so, though I barely go anywhere, I still managed to get it. My daughter is coughing too but hers seems a mild case. Mine isn't too bad, the worst part is the sore throat. I feel like someone has scoured it with steel wool. As a result I haven't eaten very much at all, even drinking hurts. I do love theraflu though, it's the best medicine for these symptoms and so far my blood pressure is unaffected. I am feeling a bit better today but I had already placed a curbside order from Sam's that I had to pick up. Thankfully they just put it in the trunk and I came right back home. So my weight is down to 271.8 which is 5 lbs lost in the last 3 days, clearly from not eating and on top of it I always lose during my TOM. I won't be upset with the inevitable gain but it will balance out in the end.

On a winter storm not, remember when I mentioned the reaction around here when snow or ice is forecast? Yep, this weekend. Tonight rain overnight and tomorrow with a death defying low of 34, tomorrow's low is 29. All bread, milk, meat, gone from store shelves in preparation for the lock in and 2 day freeze. If I were working we would be encouraged to stay overnight at the hospital to make sure we can make it in to work. Did I mention Tuesday's high is 52? I will never get used to this hysteria. Hope all of you who are getting real cold temperatures keep warm this weekend!

Carol I agree that while calories matter it is also significant where those calories come from. I eat all kinds of meat, I don't feel like I've eaten unless i've has some meat. I also love the veggies I love so it's nothing for me to eat lots of those too. The carbs I just limit, though if I want rice or potatoes I eat it, just one serving. Maybe two depending on what it is. I find that by not denying it totally but rather limiting it to less often I can eat comfortably. MFP just helped me with a framework. Also I can look back at what I ate on my more successful weeks and what might have not been as beneficial. I don't guess, I weigh or measure everything because I have absolutely no ability to accurately estimate portions of anything. And anything store bought with a bar code gets scanned into MFP so that I have the most accurate information. I don't think it's necessary for everyone but I need some kind of guide.

I know everyone thinks I'm a bit crazy with the 78 degrees but if my nose is cold(because the room is cold) I cannot get warm. If I'm awake it needs to be warm. At night I keep my room cool. Now, the big issue is that my daughter's room is freezing and if I don't turn the heat up like this she will be sleeping in a refrigerator. I got her a heating blanket and a space heater, though those made me nervous because of the fire hazards. Right now this is the best option for her room. Maybe when I buy my own home later this year, fingers crossed, I can make sure there is proper insulation so I can turn down the heat. I forget who asked about the ac in the summer, that is at 74.

Our steak dinner was really good. I will have to look for those steaks again. I sprinkled them with garlic salt then pounded them with a meat mallet. I had mixed vegetables and DH had fried potatoes. It was called sirloin tender steak. $7.85 for the package and was enough for both of us. No bone and little fat.

Adrienne, are you going to be the only one to show up at work again on Monday? They have changed our forecast to 10-12 inches. Yikes!!
