Good morning! Summer actually arrived a few days ago, but better late than never!

I was shocked to see that I'm back to 189 this morning. I don't know how that happened, but I'm taking it. I didn't feel well yesterday so I didn't eat as much as normal, but didn't expect this whoosh. It's just fluid levels going up and down, but I'm happy when they go down.

I'm up to chapter 4 in the KSB diet book. Even though this book is not about Diabetes it has a lot of good information. Although I think I know all there is to know LOL, it explained further the importance of eating fruits and vegetables, whole foods, as much as possible. I know we should eat them, but I always like to know WHY. There was a lot of technical jargon I didn't understand, but basically it explained that the fiber in whole foods is digested in the lower part of the intestines and delays the rise in blood sugar and therefore, insulin. Simple carbs, like foods containing sugar, are digested in the beginning of the digestive tract and the glucose dumps right into the blood stream. Also, if you eat complex carbs such as fibrous vegetables with higher glycemic foods the fiber tends to carry the higher glycemic foods along with it to the lower end of the digestive tract. All this slows digestion, keeping you feeling full longer. I'm paraphrasing here, so I might not have the details exact. This makes me glad I love vegetables.

Carol Sue I never think about thanking you for keeping up with our thread and starting the new ones when it is time. So I want to take a moment to say Thank you for starting the summer thread.

I don't know that I will ever do true keto but I did like the information I got from the SBK book. Same goes for this book by the Skinnygirl. Some of the things she suggests we kind of learned in IE with a little twist or tweaking in a way she learned to do. Where she learned a lot about how normal people eat and don't gain is when she studied in Italy. She watched them and evidently did what they did and actually came back home without gaining weight.

This morning I wasn't hungry and by the time I was hungry I had not drank any water so I decided to wait to see if I really was hungry. I have heard that sometimes we are thirsty for water and mistaken it for hunger so I decided that I would get a glass of ice water and drink it and see if I was hungry or thirst. It turned out that I was a tad hungry so remembering what Baby sister says she does, I had one slice of the thin sliced chicken I bought at Sam's. It satisfied the hunger and I am now good to go until we eat at 3. Not sure what we will have. Either chipped beef or pizza. Either way I will make mine healthy.

Weight was still 183 which is up for last week. I am amazed it was the same as it has been for about 3 days now especially since yesterday I ate Intuitively and not low carbish and I have no idea about the calories because I'm not tracking right now. Will continue to do this and see how I do "not dieting". One thing about eating this way, I don't have to eat if I don't want to and really enjoy eating what I want.

Carol Sue Hope y'all's day at the casino is a good one.

Have a great day everybody.

Trish, you always thank me, and really, no thanks is necessary. We are not supposed to go over 500 posts and it usually comes out close from season to season. I would rather have more posters though and we could have a monthly thread. But it is what it is.

I tried to post from the casino food court but their internet is spotty. DH did very well at the casino, finally. He was happy. Me too.

You might get a sudden whoosh from your not dieting. You never know. If not, you should go back to tracking for a while to see how your calories are doing. The IE with IF should do the trick.

I was reading a book I downloaded about Diabetes. Its a lot about back when they didn't really know what it was and how they discovered insulin for type 1. People who have type 2 really start years before they are diagnosed. I realize that I have some of the side effects like frequent urination and dry mouth and thirst. I want to clamp down on it and become stricter with my carbs. This is not about weight. Its about metabolic syndrome. My doctor is happy with my A1c but I am not. I have to quit playing around with my health for whatever time I have left. I guess I'm declaring this to make me more determined to follow through. I have to. I have to get better numbers when I go back to the doctor. I have to at least decrease these side effects and hope its not too late.

Tomorrow my son in law has an appointment to meet with the home inspector for the house. We want to go up and see it but not go inside. He said we could but the owners still live there and I won't invade their privacy. But I want to see the house and the property. I can wait until its theirs to see the inside. DH is waiting for the other shoe to drop...he will believe it when it all goes through and the house is theirs. They don't have a good track record, so it is scary.

Carol Sue Glad y'all had a good day at the casino. That is great.

I think Dr. Agatston also says that people are probably diabetic years before they are ever diagnosed. I think back to how I felt at different times in my life especially when I was over weight and I am pretty sure I was probably pre-diabetic but it never showed up on any tests. Most of the time I didn't have insurance so I didn't go to the doctor and get tested.

I am learning some new and re-learning some old tricks I used to do when I was thin or losing weight without dieting. I think I will be able to implement them into my eating plan. I also am seeing some of the rules that have nothing to do with me such as binging. I don't have a problem with binges any more as I've learned not to buy somethings or even bring them into the house. Some tricks I learned such as eating half a pb sandwich rather than a whole or eating smaller portions l either learned from DH Mother when I used to cook or make things for her to eat. And of course, I learned how to portion control doing WW. So I realized today that I know how to do this, I just need to learn to do it again. She says it is like anything else you learn to do like playing an instrument or play a game etc, it just takes practice and don't allow yourself to feel guilty over a a slip or not being perfect at it because people who are thin normally don't always eat perfectly every day or every meal. I really didn't work at eating within the 8 hr window, but I think it has become a habit already because I seem to just do it. Very seldom do I eat outside of 8 hrs any more.

I pray your DD and SIL get the house.

Hi friends: happy Friday. Weighed in at 162 again today after going up with eating and over-eating. I was going below 160 but went back to over eating.
I feel "summer lazy" and want to socialize with food.
So going to the cottage and just being on our own with no company may help again. Will be there for 2-3 weeks. Leave on Sunday or Monday.

Carol: so delighted for you to be back under 190. I hope you can do it. I understand enjoying restaurants so you can eat what and how you want. DH is pickier than I am.
Its funny, because it could look like I am picky due to being celiac and having food allergies, and eating low carb. But I like all the food.
He is picky in that he does not like a lot of types of food, like certain meats, some veggies, and ethnic styles, and mixing certain foods, like fruit and meat. (no pineapple and ham on pizza, or mango in the curry)
So you going out and ordering things DH doesn't enjoy is perfect.

Trish: you are doing great so keep it up.

Have a good weekend

Mad, I like most foods but lately there is an aversion to meat. I am on a fish kick which is very healthy. I used to love country fried steak, pulled pork, bbq ribs. No more. I don't like ground beef anymore so no meatloaf or burgers. Its ok in chili etc. And pizza is crust, sauce and cheese. I don't like toppings except mushrooms or some other veggies, but mostly plain. So although I will eat anything my preferences have really changed.

I was reading a low carb discussion where someone made the comment that eating out is easy, meat or fish and vegetables. This is how I feel but am often swayed. I don't like things with sauces or gravies. And I'm terrible at staying away from the bread/rolls. I could tell them not to bring it but I want to be someone who can have them right in front of me and not eat them. Not there yet!

Trish, I had so many tricks in the past but they are easier to stick to when you live alone. I need to revisit them.

I read that eating foods with high water content, like fruits and vegetables is better than water we drink. I don't know if its true.

Here is an article.

https://nathantowle.co.uk/nutrition/...#:~:text=Water contains exactly zero calories. Foods with a,%28unfortunately%2C drinking water doesn’t create the same effect.

We went to see the house and got talked into going inside. Its a great house for them. I love the big covered back porch with the big patio that includes a built in fire pit. They love to cook and eat outside. They have a lot of outdoor furniture. The inside is nice with a lot of storage space and finished walk up attic. I'm happy for her.

I bought some Oikes Triple Zero yogurt, peach flavored. 3 cups. 15 GM protein 7 net carbs. I ate the first one and didn't like it. Had the second one today and its better, so I think I'll get used to it. it has an aftertaste but I want the protein with low calories, fat and carb. I ate breakfast early and got hungry and wanted something small to hold me til dinner.

Mad It is always good to hear from you when you can check in. I understand about wanting to socialize and the eating. I am already thinking about how I am going to handle our family 4th of July gathering since most of the food is carby. Although I'm allowing myself to "mindfully" eat whatever I want, I don't want to use it as an excuse to go wild. I need to do it "mindfully" as well. Usually I spend so much time going around talking to all my nieces and nephews that I never get to see that I have actually forgotten to eat. Hope this will be a similar case this time. Enjoy your time at the cottage.

Carol Sue I am finding that there really are some foods that I keep on hand for something different but I don't use much. Ground meat is one of those because I don't make homemade HB because I never get the meat thin enough for DH. I used to buy ready made fresh patties from Sam's and divide them but I still couldn't get them thin enough even with my HB press so I just let McDs do them now. He likes plain meatloaf with nothing but seasoning and gravy and I want a meatloaf with veggies so I don't do that either and he like Tacos from Taco Bell better than homemade so I only have ground meat for spaghetti. He and I both like fish, steak and he tolerates the pork chops I like. So I'm kind of limited as to what I can cook. I do need to get back to eating more veggies so I will look at the article you shared. Thanks for sharing it as I'm sure I need it. In fact in one of her little helpful blocks SkinnyGirl has in her book she shared the foods that help keep fluid off that Iwant to add to my plan. I already eat celery and cucumbers but she says melons especially cantaloupe, asparagus and ACV help with keeping it off. I need to get back to using ACV & EVOO in my salads.

It is very difficult to get out of the "Diet thinking mode". I have finished reading 8 or the rules she shares in the book and I'm really working on going back to the IE woe and choosing to eat what I really want rather than what I think I should eat. Since I know that I really like and enjoy my eggs, bacon and toast for breakfast that is what I had. I actually set down at the dinning room table without any distractions and concentrated on the food. Main meal today will be steak, salad with ACV & EVOO along with the crackers I like and corn on the cob. DH gets it when he finds it fresh in the store. He brings them home and cleans them and I bag them in and put in the freezer.

Weight was only up .4 of a lb. Sometimes a bounce means a loss is coming but we will see. I reatilly hope I can make this IE/Mindful woe working for me because I am tired of thinking about food, diets, calorie/carb counting and would love to just live a normal life without thinking about them all the time. I like what IE calls it "Making peace with food".

Skinnygirl talks about a time when she was afraid of avocadoes because she thought they would make her fat. Now she eats them. I have food that I am afraid to even bring in the house and don't know if I ever will, but I would like to make peace with that.

Carol Sue the house sounds really amazing for your kids and I hope they will be able to get it.

Hope everybody has a great day.

Carol Sue Thanks again for the article. Evidently that is why the WW core/SF plan worked so well. It was all the free foods fit this plan. Interesting and something for me to really think about. I pretty much eat this way at our main meal so maybe I need to do it at breakfast and evening meal as well along with IF.

DH wanted to go to Applebees again. He's funny, that he likes the atmosphere there even if they don't have much that he likes. He got steak again, same as last time. They don't have baked potatoes, only fries and mashed, and broccoli or green beans for vegetables. I ordered Fiesta Lime Chicken and it was outstanding. I will go back for that again. I was very hungry so that helps make my food taste better.

Then I went and got my hair cut. It was a snap decision. I can go along fine then one day my hair gets too bushy and I want it cut. I go to Great Clips where you can just walk in.

I think there are some people like your DH who like the thin hamburger patties at McDonalds. I don't know why I don't like hamburgers anymore. I used to love them. DH mostly likes Wendys. I used to love meatloaf, too. And roast. My tastes really changed. I am already burned out on KFC. I wanted it for so long and DH wouldn't eat it. Now we've had it 3 times and I'm tired of it.

___________________________________________

After all my talk about never getting hungry I was so hungry yesterday afternoon. I had a big breakfast but no carbs. Scrambled eggs, bacon and sauteed mushrooms, which I guess are carbs, but no toast. I knew we were going out for dinner so I didn't want to ruin my appetite, that's why I ate the yogurt. My dinner was so delicious that I had no interest in eating anything in the evening, but I did fall asleep. If what I eat is satisfying I have no interest in eating again. Then I woke up to stomach grumbles in the middle of the night. Hungry again. Coffee is holding me for now but I'm ready for breakfast. DH won't be up until 9 am so maybe my hunger will be gone by then. I'd like to fast until noon but if he cooks I will eat.

Trish, if I could keep deli meat like you do a slice of that would hold me, but I can't buy it. It is one of those things I will eat til its gone. I love deli turkey.

After getting my hair cut all my highlights are gone and I have to do it again. For some gosh darn reason at 75 I have no gray hair. My hair is so dark I hate it. It is just too dark for my complexion. I don't know if I will ever get gray hair. Neither of my parents had any but they died in their 60s. I would rather have gray hair than be fat because I could cover up the gray hair.

Carol Sue That is why I don't usually by sandwich meat because If it is one I really like I can't just go get 1 slice. I want to eat it all. However if I decide to do more of a SBK plan then I just might get it and have it like BS says she does and wrap lettuce around it.

I got really hungry for something late last night so following a thought from Skinnygirl, I ate 3 bites of yogurt and I was fine. This morning I didn't get hungry until after noon so I decided since protein is so important that I would just have a Premier shake. I've got chicken tenders cooking in the crockpot and will have mine with SF BBQ sauce. I don't know if DH will want the same thing or he will want the same thing or he will want gravy with his. Not sure what veggies we will have with it as of yet. Although I am working at eating Intuitively instead of following a diet plan, I still like the idea of eating low carb or keto.

Skinnygirl book has a chapter on a rule called "Know thyself". I found this not interesting but also difficult because I have dieted for so many years that it is not easy to answer one simple question "what foods do you like and which foods you really do not like?" I have always taken a diet and looked to see what I can and cannot eat and just make choices from that. I remember having this problem when actually doing the IE workbook. I still have a problem with thinking "what I should eat rather than what I really want". So learning "not to diet" is just as difficult as starting a new diet. But I really want to learn to be a Naturally Thin eater.

I think becoming a Naturally Thin eater is going to be important if I ever get down to my normal weight or at least get to a size I want to stay at that size. I really think the reason I wasn't successful at staying smaller when I did get weight down in the past is because #1 I didn't feel thin, I still saw myself as fat and #2 since the diet was over, I just went back to bad eating habits when I was thinner. If I'm eating Intuitively/Naturally Thin woe and not dieting, this woe will just continue as usual because this will become just the way I eat. Hope that makes sense and logically it should work.

Have a nice day everybody.

Trish, what are you cooking your chicken tenders with if you are going to use BBQ sauce and DH gravy? I think its a big help that your DH does not like potatoes except McD fries. My DH goes into withdrawal if he goes more than 1 day without them.

I agree with eating the foods you like instead of what you think you should eat. Thats what I've been doing but the problem with that is I am maintaining rather than losing. You have lost so well eating what's on whatever plan you're following. They have always said to lose weight eating a woe you could stay on the rest of your life, but many lose weight then go back to their old way of eating. We now know that's wrong. My list of foods I like would be very short now but I have a long list of foods I tolerate and would eat if something I really like is not available.

Today I wanted a hot dog. DH wanted salmon so we went to Rodneys and I got baked scrod. That would be at the top of my list of foods I like. Too bad DH won't eat it or I could make it at home. It is similar to your cod you make. I think the reason I wanted a hot dog is because I'm looking forward to July 4. If I ate it today I wouldn't want it on July 4.

My step daughter told DH that she wants a broiler oven/air fryer like the one I have so I think I'll get her one for a house warming gift.

Carol Sue I use the G. Hughes sugar free bbq sauce and I cooked baby broccoli florets with cheese for DH and I had baby Normandy vegetables and we both had a salad. I plan to fry swai fish tomorrow.

Today ended up being moderately low carb day. I did get hungry again late tonight but reminded myself that if I want it that I can have it tomorrow but not today.

Headed to bed. Hope we sleep good tonight.

I didn't sleep very well so therefore didn't weigh. I was up reading for a while then went back to bed.

Now we have to go to Wal-Mart for a few things and look for a counter top cooker for Step Daughter. That's where I bought mine. I won't buy it until I'm sure they are moving. In my mind its still iffy and I won't consider it a done deal until the closing.

Pleased to report a confirmed loss of 1 pound. I will update my side bar from -23 lbs to -24 lbs. I am pleased but it is hard to be excited. I am still bumping up against my personal barrier. Even when I manage to get through it, it is only temporary. I do have another half pound waiting in the wings for confirmation.

The keyboard on my laptop stopped working so I have been posting from my tablet. I find it hard to post from my tablet. I will not be able to post next Sunday (will be out of town).
