The casino trip was great. DH seems to do so well when I am not gambling! Not a big win but he came out ahead. He hasn't lost any money all month. It's nice when he can have fun at no cost, plus free dinner.

I took my Kindle to the casino. I found a spot with a lot of empty seats and sat down to read. Don't you know a man came and sat down right next to me! With all those empty seats. So I left and went back to where DH was. DH said he probably wanted someone to talk to but it's not a singles bar. LOL

I like tilapia but DH does not. When I make it for me I cook a steak for him. I am assuming I still like it.

I ate at 9 this morning and not again until 4. DH had lunch but I did not. I got very hungry on the way to the casino but by the time we got there I felt better. I finished around 5 so it was 2 meals in 8 hours with a mini fast in between. We will see how tomorrow goes.

Glad your day went well.

I continued checking fs today after meals and DH wanted to eat baked beans and although I tried making mine as slow carb as I could it still raised my bs too much so I won't be buying it any more. I think I saw a recipe for making it lower carb so I will look for a good recipe for making it without sugar and see how I do with it since DH likes it so much. I did an 8 hr eating window today too so that is still working so far. Four hours later bs was back down to 119 so ended up okay. Of course that means it will be a little higher tomorrow but this is the only way to learn how I respond to certain foods. I still consider it a good day.

I decided to try my hand at making raw oatmeal in fridge over night like they say to make. I read that it is easier to digest and healthier so I'll see if it is good or not by having it for breakfast tomorrow before I go to the beauty shop.

Trish, I love baked beans but we only have them about 4 times a year. I rinse the sauce off my portion then add a spoonful more. with sauce to it. My mom used to make them from scratch, soaking the beans. They were so good but I don't go to all that trouble. I buy Bush's Boston Style.

I tried the overnight oats once and didn't like them. I like mine cooked.

When I went to bed, blood sugar was 97. Now it is 131. I ate nothing but did have a sugar free cough drop. Maybe one snuck in that was not sugar free.

Hi friends: sounds like nice adventures for everyone. I had a good day yesterday, a bit long, and some insomnia. About to go for my walk with the dog.
Carol: I'm glad things went well at the casino for you and DH so you had a better outing. Too bad someone pushed you away from your spot to read. Hope you got time with your book again. I have an app for my tablet called "Libby" (Libby the Librarian) for borrowing e-books and really enjoy that for most of my reading, but I also like real books.
Trish: hope you can find a way to do beans with out the sugar. My number one is soak and dispose of the water over and over. I rinse my canned beans too, so my chilli didn't make me too gassy at all.
Hope the weather is good for everyone this weekend.

FBG 134 this morning which is no surprise after eating the baked beans with honey. Funny thing the GL book talks of using honey in some recipes, however, in The Hybrid Diet they must have learned better because he doesn't mention it. In fact, he says use Xylitol. Weight went up just slightly because of it too, however, that might not be correct because I got up an hour earlier. Tomorrow is WI day.

Eating the overnight oats this morning. It isn't bad. I couldn't eat the whole serving so eating only about half. I hope the other keeps till tomorrow. I saw another recipe on line of cooking oatmeal and quinoa together and having it for breakfast and I want to try that sometime. But with all that fiber I want to be staying home all day if you know what I mean. LOL

Heard from my son this morning which was a surprise. He text to let me know that they are okay. He lives down between Houston and Galveston where they had that storm. I knew they must be since his wife and her girl friends were catching a plane yesterday flying out to TN. He only calls 2 or 3 times a year so it was nice to hear from him.

Headed out to the beauty shop and grocery store. Doc's office called yesterday and they have some samples to be picked up for DH so I'll run by there on the way home and get that.

Hope everyone has a nice weekend.

Good morning! I ate in the evening again last night. Blood sugar was 97 overnight but in the 130s when I got up. So i think when I don't eat in the evening there is no glucose in my liver to dump. This is what I need to remember. So much for the bedtime snack they recommend!

I see that my blood sugar did the same thing 2 days ago with no eating. Hmmmm. Maybe poor sleep is causing that.

Wt is up 2 lbs to 187. I might weigh daily for a while to get back on track. I seem to have formed a new setpoint that I don't like. A bad sign is my carrots went bad. I usually eat them fast enough to prevent that. I love cooked carrots and usually have them every few days. Not enough veggies in my diet.

I'm glad you heard from your son Trish. I didn't know you had family in Houston. Glad they're safe!

Carol Sue I had a longer eating window yesterday myself. FBG was 121 and only lost .6 lbs this week. I think I ate too late last night myself. Not that that makes things any easier for either of us.

I am making today my official 1st day OP with SCD/IF. I wrote my weight down and measured myself as Dr. Holbrook says the measuring tape is more encouraging than the scale for a while. So I will weigh and measure once a week.

I got up and had oatmeal for breakfast around 11:15. I had to make another batch of yogurt this morning before breakfast so we will have yogurt tomorrow. I used 1 c as a starter and that left me one serving each for today. We are having codfish today. I made myself a vegetable soup last night to eat. One of the nice things about this way of eating is that I am having no pottie issures as everything is pleasantly normal. I look forward to seeing how this will work out for me after I've been on it for a week or two. Remember how we were told us years ago in the original WW was to give the plan a good 2 weeks before you really expect to see too much results. So I'm going to do that.

No real plans this weekend here.

Hope everybody has a nice weekend.

FBG was up again today. I will continue to work on that. I did cook and eat a lot of veggies yesterday. They tasted very good and refreshing. I need to buy more baby carrots. I have plenty of frozen veggies to use up. I need to empty out my freezer to make room for the holiday baking. I have to remind myself that I am in the stores a couple times a week so I don't need to stock up. I will do an inventory to see how much I really have.

Trish I'm happy to see that you are still making your yogurt. That is so healthy. I really like my Cabot plain greek yogurt, preferably the whole milk one. I like it plain and sometimes mix in sugar free coffee creamer for a tasty change.

Not sure what we will be doing today. The weather is beautiful.

Smile Ticker changing day!

Merell- Welcome!
Patty- Hoping the SCD/IF works for you!
Carol- Hang in there- you'll get your set point back down!
Mad- Sounds like you are enjoying the dog sitting!

This week I was able to confirm the one pound loss! Yay!! And I have another half pound loss waiting for confirmation next week- bonus! Can't say that I deserve it as some of my awful food habits have returned (drinking sugared soda, eating sweets). Although, overall, I am eating less. Didn't do any of the fine tuning I had planned to do. BP was almost to normal range yesterday (125/84) but bounced back up today. FBS is not doing well likely because of the DP. For DP, does any one know if it is because the liver is not reading the signal to stop releasing glucose or is it because the signal is not being sent to the liver?

Last week I went ice skating twice again. I am really enjoying it but do need new skates. My skates are really old but I am having a hard time letting go of them. They knew me when I was skinny- LOL. In addition, I want to wear wrist guards. In the past, I have broken each of my wrists (separate times) and am anxious to not do that again. I have some wrist guards but I think they are too small. If I had some wrist guards, I would be able to do more with my skating. I have been very cautious so far and only do one lap at a time in the same direction. I have been so happy with ice skating, I had forgotten how much I want to start doing Pilates. My problem is the most convenient way is to do both is back to back on the way home from work which seems like it will be too rushed. I also went to the rec center twice last week and did the elliptical for 20 minutes each time. Unfortunately, I am still struggling with fatigue. So I have to choose- exercise or get housework done. Last week the choice was exercise so my poor house is quite neglected. I'll probably need to focus on it this week.

Yesterday, my daughter had a booth at the local fair to sell some of her paintings. She is thrilled because she sold four! I am really proud of her! It was a lot of work helping her set up and take down her booth. Although, compared to some of the other booths it was not so bad. She had a friend who helped her. The friend stayed at our house the night before because we had to leave at 6:30 am. The girls were up until 1:00 am! Needlessly to say, my daughter went to sleep very early last night!

Since this is the last week in the month, I want to do really well at staying OP and do longer periods of IF. This will likely be really difficult and possibly impossible since I did so poorly last week. However, the last week in the month is consistently a bad one for me so I want to change it up. Unfortunately though, I am unable to get one of my best supplements. I have a replacement but it is not the same. In fact it is not even similar aside from one mineral that I think is important for me. Then there is another supplement I wanted to try because it could help me with a different problem. I thought I had looked into its effect on BS and BP before ordering it. However when I double checked last night, I found it can cause a lot of issues with increasing BS. I'll have to do more research. I'm also going to try a new brand of berberine.

Let's see, ultimately during the week, I want to add two sessions of Pilates, go to the rec center two additional times, ensure my calories are with in my limit, eat less sweets (including soda) and increase IF from two 16 hour fasts to 24 hour fasts. This week, I will concentrate on the doing one longer fast and will set up a Pilates session.

It doesn’t matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop.- Confucius

Pipsicle Looks like you are actually settling into a routine. I know it may not feel like it too much to you, but you are slowly tweaking your plan and I think that is probably very good way to do it. Hope things continue to get better and better for you. Congratulations on DD selling 4 paintings. That is awesome. My son could have done that as he was very good and I paid for him to have lessons and could have used art even in business but he never pursued it. However, he is a carpenter and remodels homes so maybe he does use it after all. He loves what he does so that is what counts. I'm so happy your DD has it going for her.

Carol Sue Yes, I still make the yogurt and am resolved that I probably always will as DH won't eat any other yogurt but mine. I have to agree that it is a better quality and at least we know what is in it.

I was reading on a diabetic site this morning that I didn't know I had saved about lowering A1c. It says it will come down but it does take a while to get it down. It gave all the things we know such as eat healthy and exercise. So we are doing the right things now we let it work. I agree sometime we may eat a little much or even eat something we shouldn't but we are always working towards our goals and that is good.

DH and I didn't want the usual meal yesterday so had left overs. He had the chilli and I took enough to flavor a bowl of quinoa and the left over lentil soup from a few days ago. I am finding SCD so much easier to do because I have so much more to choose from and able to create some really good meals and stay OP.

FBG 129. Weight is no longer bouncing. I actually weighed 215.6 2 days in a row which is good for me. It makes me feel like I've finally got something working for me. I eat 2 meals and then I make a small healthy snack sometime between 6 &7 and have that and I don't get hungry any more until around 11 am the next day. I really believe a 16:8 IF ration is very comfortable as a way of like. This actually reminds me of how I ate years ago on WW before they started messing with their plans. It is so nice to have a plan.

Y'all have a great Sunday everybody.

Good morning! So tired I went to bed early and slept well. Blood sugar still high in the am from night eating.

Popsicle, I am glad you have continued to lose. I can explain DP. Your liver dumps glucose near Dawn to give you energy to start your day. The pancreas releases insulin to offset the glucose. We as diabetics have a deminished first insulin response called insulin resistance that allows blood sugar to rise higher than it should. When I was not eating after dinner at 4 pm i think my glucose levels were so low that there was not much to dump,. Now that I'm back to eating in the evening there is more glucose in the liver to be dumped and therefore my FBG is elevated. I need to work on that.

This is also why we are told to keep our meals small. If you eat small meals your blood sugar does not spike as high. A non diabetic gets the first insulin response as soon as they start to eat. We do not.

Diabetic educators tell us what to do but don't always explain why.

Nothing new going on here. Weight is steady no up or down. I still consider that a good thing. FBG before exercise was 131 and after 25 minutes exercise on bike before breakfast it was 115 but was still fasting beause I didn't breakfast until about 11:15. So the exercise makes a big difference. I only drink a cup of black coffee until I eat breakfast.

Carol Sue I definitely get the DP but evidently the black coffee and exercise brings it down. I ended up eating 4 small meals yesterday which I don't really like doing even though it isn't considered off plan. But I was hungry and did stay OP.

Busy day today. Will go to see Daddy and not sure how that will go since he was mad the whole time DS and BIL were there. He is so mad because he is still alive. At this point it would be a blessing for him if the Good Lord would take him home since he is so bitter right now. I just hope this mood doesn't linger.

We need to go to Sam's club today to get more fish and a few other things as well as tomatoes. Dinner tonight will be either KFB or MD/s CB. DH will decided.

I made a chocolate pie in a ready made pecan pie shell I bought at the store. I don't think I like it as much as a graham cracker or regular pie shell. I won't be buying it again. I don't think DH even tried it so it will probably end up in the garbage disposal.

Hope everybody has a nice day.

Trish, DH never eats pie crust so I know he wouldn't eat a pecan crust. He only eats the filling. I might like it though.

We are going out to eat but when I come back I want to tell you an interesting story about my change in appetite.

Edit: A woman was talking about how low zinc causes loss of sense of smell and taste. I have had a low sense of smell most of my life and recently I have so many favorite foods that no longer appeal to me. So I was reading about zinc online and it says being diabetic can cause low zinc but also the same med that caused my uric acid levels to be high! I've been taking that med for about a year. So I got some zinc and started taking it. We'll see how it goes. I don't know how long it would take to see a difference. I sure would like to get back to my old self.

Carol Sue That is interesting about the zinc and how it affects smell and taste. Makes me wonder if I'm taking something that is keeping me from enjoying meat these days. I just have interest in eating meat at all. I would almost go vegetarian except I think I would get tired of that too. I'm in one of those strange moods where I just eat a little something to just take care of hunger and no more. Of course, it would be nice if things stayed that way. I think I will just go with it.

This morning I took 2 slices of Sara Lee MG bread and one egg and made French toast and had one slice of Canadian bacon for breakfast. Then for dinner DH got McD's CB and as usual made mine on the Sara Lee MG bread and half of DH fries for lunch with a serving of cantaloupe. My evening snack was yogurt with a handful of blueberries and 2 Slim Jim beef sticks. That is all I will eat today so I can a 23 hr fast as I plan to fast till 3 tomorrow afternoon.

Hope you can get things back to normal Dear Friend.
