Trish, I think if <1000 calories is satisfying you, why eat more? If you are OK with an evening snack only if you are hungry, then do that. When I am under 1000 cals on MFP I just add a food on there to bring it up, or increase something, like if I have 4 oz of chicken, I increase it to 6 oz just to show the higher calories. I'm not going to eat more just to satisfy some food log, as long as I am not having actual hunger.

Ham tastes too salty for me, even deli ham. I can eat it on a sandwich because the bread offsets some of the salty taste, but then it is no longer low carb. It's the same thing with bacon. The saltiness is why I rarely eat it. It's OK on a sandwich but I don't like it alone. Now that I am eating very little processed food I notice the high salt content so much more. There are a lot of people like my DH who crave the salt. I make ham for Christmas and Easter. That's it, and sometimes on Christmas I also cook turkey so I have another option besides the ham.

I can't wait for this weather to break. We had so much rain this season and it is causing so much damage in W. PA. Our terrain is very hilly. The water is soaking in so much it is causing landslides, damaging people's homes, and insurance does not cover this damage. One couple built a new home and it was destroyed before they could even move in. Now the ground under ST. Route 30 has sunk and the road caved in. The hillside next to the highway slid down and forced the evacuation of apartment buildings below. That is such a busy highway for anyone going to Pittsburgh and now it's closed indefinately, with detours through small towns. They have no idea how much it's going to take to do the repairs or how long it's going to take. Luckily for us we rarely have to go in that direction, but it's so terrible for others. I'm a little concerned about the hill behind out house, but so far there's no sign of problems. We really need some sun and warmer weather to dry out the ground.

My foot is hurting today but DH wants to go to the casino. He is usually very helpful and understanding when I am out of commission except when it comes to the casino. He is addicted and doesn't want to stay away. He will drop me off at the front door, but it's still a long walk back to the buffet. Maybe by then my pain meds will kick in. I don't like to disappointment. The only way to keep us away is either a lot of snow, or one of us in the hospital, and I don't want either of them. LOL

I hope to stay under control at the buffet, and eat a lot of veggies.

Carol Sue I can't believe this weather this year. Even here in TX, I don't ever remember having an April 7 with our weather being so low. It is 37 now and the high is supposed to be 45 and a low tonight of 39. We are having a lot of highs in the 60s and 70s which are unusual. I am enjoying this because I know we will have hot days of up to possibly 104. We did get a little rain last night but not enough, but enough for DH to have to go out and mow the lawn the last 2 weeks. I hope y'alls weather dries up soon.

Sorry you don't feel up to going to the casino. I've never been to one although they do have them close to us in So. Florida. I hope you will be fine walking around.

I'm on D3 of CAD. I have a plan for what I will eat today and calories are 1051. Eggs, bacon and avocado for breakfast and a steak stir-fry for supper. Not sure about lunch as DH tried the Victoza shot again yesterday and was up all night miserable because he feels stuffed. He probably won't eat much of anything today. He wanted to see if he could take it, but he cannot. Because of all this high priced meds he has tried the past 3 months he is already in the gap so we need to go see his doctor because he will need to give him samples of whatever he wants him on.

Any way, I have one plan for what I'm going to eat if he doesn't eat, but will change it if he wants to eat since he won't eat what I'm eating.

Carol Sue I agree that it is best to show a little extra of something to keep from eating more than I want to eat.

The strategy of planning to exercise everyday rather than saying I will exercise 5 days really works. I actually ended up exercising 5 days this week. Also the strategy of advanced planning of meals each day is good too. Since it is a cold day and DH doesn't really like chicken and dumplings, I was going to make some for me. When I saw how many calories one dumpling had, I changed my mind. I had already cooked the chicken leg to put in the dumplings so I decided to make a 1 serving casserole with brown rice and veggies for a whole lot of less calories and carbs. I will keep eating this way. CAD works great for me.

I sure don't know how other diabetics can go day to day not checking blood sugar. My lancing device isn't working today, so I can't test. And if I can't test, I'm afraid to take any Glimiperide. I might have another one around. I will have to look. The one I use and like is a Relion from Walmart, and I like it because it's adjustable.

The buffet at the casino was very disappointing. The meat was all overcooked and dry. My DH who likes his steak well done didn't even like it. The only veggies they had that I like were carrots. No broccoli, cauliflower, squash blend like they usually have or green beans. They stopped the salmon a while back and also the rotisserie chicken. They had a lot of pasta dishes or meats with sauces, which I don't eat. Then when we got out to the casino floor the free soft drink machine didn't have any ice, and they didn't refill it all evening. They must not be making as much money so they are cutting back. They have the girls who come around and will bring you a drink, but you pay, and then you have to give them a tip. I'm not that thirsty! LOL DH was able to bring a little money home so all is not lost.

That's a shame the Victoza is not working for your DH. I guess that's why they make so many different drugs because not all can take them. I am so glad I have chosen to work toward handling this with diet and exercise, even though the exercise is on hold for now with my bad foot. I guess there are some exercises I could be doing. I have that brand new treadmill I bought, sitting down there collecting dust. I got it right before the pain started in my left foot and only had a short break before it came in my right foot. I'm seriously considering a trip to the doctor. I would really like to get an exray and find out what this is, but I'm not so sure I would do what is suggested to treat it. I want it to just go away and stay gone like it did with the other foot.

I would like to make today an all veggie day for me. I have some steaks I can cook for DH. I don't really want to go out since it's still so cold out, but if I can't find a lancing device I will have to go to Walmart for a new one. I really hate Walmart on the weekends.

I found 2 other lancing devices. I don't like them as much as the adjustable Relion, but they will work for now and I don't have to make a special trip out today if I don't feel like it. I do need a couple other things but they can wait til tomorrow. Maybe it will be warmer. Actually, with the cold winter we had, this weather is a big improvement, but it's April and the sun is shining. It should be warm. I can't wait until I can sit out on my front porch in the evenings.

Carol Sue I'm glad you found a lancing device. I hate going to the store on the weekend but will have to go today because we need milk and DH has a medication that is ready. If we didn't need milk, I wouldn't go today. However, the one thing I like about this particular Walmart is that they always have plenty of checkers so you don't have to wait in line very long.

Sorry about the disappointing buffet at the casino. Maybe they are under new management. I would think if they continue as they are that people will go somewhere else.

I went on Amazon to check out Glucocil that I used to take from GNC because they sell it for $10 less. While there I decided to check on some other Diabetic supplements. I found one that was very highly recommended by others who are using. It is called Optilevel and it was a whole lot cheaper. However, it wasn't the price that got me, but it was a 5 Star where as Glucocil was 4 Star. I was impressed that not only are people getting better bs readings, but at least one said they no longer have tingling in there hands etc. I ordered 2 bottles. It is just vitamins and herbs so I feel it is safe to take and you only take 1 a day. I can just put it in with my other pills in my pill box I make up every day. It is FDA, GMP and one other approved that I can't remember right now. There was another supplement Amazon recommended that people usually buy with it, but I didn't get it. However, I'm thinking that I might be able to get rid of all my other supplements and order it instead so we can take less pills. It will be here tomorrow.

I figure by not taking meds for bs that I have to take several times a day, I can actually fast longer sometime and perhaps get back to eating the way I did when I was younger.

CAD is going fine. My CAD day wasn't the way I wanted it to be but was still legal so I've gotten past the 1st 3 days which really wasn't easy because I was hungry all evening. I took extremely thin cut beef and cooked it and made a stir-fry with it and it didn't help me at all. Although it was a CM, a few hours later, I felt like I was starving. Although peanuts aren't considered CAD some people on CAD do eat them and I figured eating peanuts was better than eating some food that would have been way off.

I didn't take the berberine today as I don't think it helps me with the bs or exercise as it says. FBS was 155 today down 10 pts from but I think that is from having a good week of exercising and weight was up 1 lb which isn't really a gain so that is good.

I have had one cup of coffee today. In fact, I'm ready for my other cup and my tummy is beginning to feel like it might want me to eat breakfast. LOL Since we will eat when we come back from seeing Daddy and going to Walmart, I may see if I can turn this into a 2 meal day.

I'm on my 4th day of CAD and I'm starting to feel the effects of it being low carb like. You would think I had just taken a fluid pill. I think that is the effects of the coffee until brunch time and I haven't taken any pills at all this morning since I didn't take berberine.

Hope your foot gets better as the day goes on Carol Sue. I'm thinking dryer, warmer weather would help a lot.

I thought of Dr. Seuss Green Eggs and Ham when I mixed my eggs with kale this morning in Magic Bullet to make an omelet and it turned out green. I laughed as I cooked my Green Eggs and Bacon omelet. Actually tasted just as good.

We ended up going to Walmart and spent $55. LOL I did get a new lancing device $6 since I like the Relion one from Walmart, and I got a box of 100 strips, too, so that was $18. The rest was food items we needed, milk, eggs and such. Our Walmart doesn't have stockers on the weekends so if the shelf is empty, too bad. I like going during the week when they are stocking the shelves. They always have a lot of registers open so no long lines. DH likes to go to self-checkout.

Walking around Walmart didn't help my foot. I laid down for a while and it feels a little better but as soon as I walk on it it hurts. The strange thing is it doesn't always hurt in the same place. Sometimes it's my little toe, sometimes the side of my foot and sometimes the top of my foot. I guess it COULD be diabetic neuropathy, but I hope not.

One good thing about taking a little nap, I didn't eat, so my BS is 106. I don't know what I will eat. Maybe some celery and cream cheese. DH made some french fries for himself while I was napping so I don't have to cook for him.

Hey friends: have had a difficult week for food, but all the chocolate and salty treats are gone, so maybe I will do better now, LOL
Today would have been Dad's 87th birthday, I spent the day with my sister.
Hilariously, we found an envelope of cash and took ourselves out to lunch on Dad and spent it. It was a late lunch, or early supper, but I am still full and don't want anything to eat.
Tomorrow I am going down to Welland to do some banking for the estate, (no branches out of the area) and will take his lady friend out for lunch. She celebrated his birthday with him the last 7 years, and was a wonderful companion to him, I know she is grieving too. I also want to make sure her other kids (besides the one she lives with) are looking in on her too, which I made them promise to do.
Then I start the pre-colonscopy procedures tomorrow night, and am on clear fluids.
Not sure about what to eat Wednesday after the procedure. Anyone have a colonoscopy before? I know I can't drive for 24 hrs afterward, and the buscopan will leave me with a dry mouth and slow bowel, so I was thinking of things that will help that, even though I will be relatively out of it. I think they might suggest soups, but not many are gluten free.
Suggestions happily accepted.

Mad, I have never had a colonoscopy. I googled, and the foods it suggests afterwards are going to have gluten, I believe. Maybe you can google somehow to find gluten free foods for after a colonoscopy, or maybe phone your doctor ahead of time.

It's very nice of you to look after your father's lady friend the way you do. I hope she appreciates it.

I'm so tired. Going off to bed.

I had one last year and afterward I ate some sweet potato, and green beans. I was hungry but more than that I was really sleepy. I slept pretty much the rest of the day and was tired the next day too. I went back on regular food pretty quickly after the first day.

Still nursing my foot pain. It's not as bad today, but it's there. It seemed that I was having pain the the left ankle during the night, but now I'm wondering if that was a dream, because it doesn't hurt now. I have a heating pad on my foot while I'm sitting here to see if that helps. I'm just so tired of this cold weather. I'm cold and wearing a sweater all the time. We had a dusting of fine snow again this morning. I've really had enough. I am going to have to watch the weather report and see when spring is going to arrive.

I had some chocolate cake last night and my blood sugar really spiked. That's the first time in a long time. I didn't have any dinner to speak of. I made the cake for DH and ended up eating some myself. It tasted good, but it's really a no no for me and I will stay away from it today.

I really don't have much of an appetite and I don't get really hungry. I wonder if the Vit D3 is causing the lack of appetite. I got on the scale and my weight has stayed the same, no loss or gain. I am down 10 lbs, but I really need to lose more. It also might be the Motrin taking away my appetite. I don't do pain meds very well, but I have to have something to give me some relief.

Hi Donna. Hope you and your family are doing well. I'm hoping that Fatmad will make it though her colonoscopy very well and not have any eating problems afterward. I think I would like to sleep after that, too.

Trish, I forgot to respond to your comment about green eggs and ham. LOL I say that all the time when I add the kale to my eggs. I keep forgetting to do that recently and that's a good way to get my kale into my diet.

fatmad I was so sick after my colonoscopy last year that I didn't eat much. DH make soup for me most of the time until I ended up in the hospital. I think I was like Donna in that I slept all day. I hope all goes well for you.

Carol Sue That's okay about the green eggs. I like it because it gets the kale in my plan. I am having to wear a sweater too. I am ready for it to be a little warmer, just not hot.

My Optilevel came in this morning in the mail. It says on the bottle to take 1 with meals and you can take up to 3 times a day and no more. I always go overboard, but I think I will start with 1 pill a day with my RM since I don't eat carby foods with CM. I'm not sure if this works against carbs as a blocker like some over the counter supplements do or not. It would be nice if 1 a day will take care of it. My FBS

is slowly coming down with CAD so maybe I won't need more than 1. I am going to just follow CAD and not worry about MFP. I know the weight loss will be slow on the scales, but will be better with measuring tape. I will probably measure once a month. I cook somethings that can't be accurately calculated on MFP such as the taco salad I am making for RM today. I've decided to just "relax" and "trust" the plan I have chosen and enjoy my life.

I read where one customer's doctor told him/her? to take it with his meds. At 153.21 for 30 day supply of Januvia, it would be nice if this would help DH. I just got text from Walmart and DH Eliquist is 149 dollars. He may have to go back on Warfarin. I know our doctor doesn't like using it, but this is ridiculous. The crazy thing is if you don't have Medicare/Medicaide or Part D insurance, you can get coupons for this stuff. It's like you are punished for having insurance. The doctor will probably end up giving him samples again.
This is crazy. I may email our doctor and see if he can give him samples of the Eliquist.

Oh well, such is life. I need to get busy around here. I need to ride the bike and then eat breakfast. May do it the other way around for today. Tempted to not exercise and just relax since I don't have to go any where today and most of the rest of the week is busy.

I had green eggs today. LOL DH made himself a package of noodles and sauce for lunch and he put some frozen kale in it. He really shocked me! He didn't like it. He said it tasted like leaves. I told him to put just a little bit in each time and then as he gets used to it he can add more. I might just make a healthy eater out of him yet! I told him that it helped me with the pain I had in my hip. I don't think it's helping with the pain in my foot, but I'm not eating it every day like I used to. When I was eating it before I was making fresh kale from the produce department, and I sauteed it with onion, garlic and sometimes some sliced mushrooms, and topped it with Feta Cheese. I don't know if any of the other ingredients were helpful, too. Right now I just have frozen kale and mix it in with my eggs, or saute it with some onion and cabbage. I don't know if the frozen kale has the same health benefits as the fresh. My hip pain never came back, yet and it still helps my fingernails grow.

I continue to use MFP. I don't put a lot of stock in it but it gives me a ball park figure and adds it into my Fitbit information. It is very hard for me to find a lot of the foods I eat, but I just pick one that seems close. I was surprised when I ate my wings. There was one entry on there that said 12 wings was 98 calories. Don't I wish!! LOL Most of the entries are by brand name and that's hard with home cooked food. I just do the best I can and don't worry about it. It's better than nothing. My friend probably knows exactly home many calories she's eating because she eats almost all process foods. She eats cereal for breakfast, yogurt or cottage cheese for lunch, and a salad for dinner. She measures out everything according to what the package says is a serving. She does very little cooking, just some chicken legs sometimes and when she eats out she just orders a cup of soup. There are a lot of things she won't eat because she says she doesn't know how many carbs are in them unless they have a label.

By the way, she is finished with her cancer treatment and starting to feel much better and getting back to her old self. She still has her port for chemo, just in case she needs additional treatment. She will have a cat scan soon that should tell them if her cancer is gone. I am praying that it is gone, and stays gone. I don't want her to have to go through that terrible treatment again.

The new meds are so expensive Trish. I don't take any meds that are not generic and all but one are zero copay, one is $15 for 90 day supply. It would be great if your DH could stop eating carbs and manage his blood sugar with diet and exercise. I'm surprised he doesn't try to follow your lead. My DH loves his carbs, too. He would make a terrible diabetic, so I hope he never becomes one. A couple times I wanted to test is blood sugar but I'm afraid of what I will see. He told me that if he had diabetes he would do WHATEVER HE HAD TO DO to keep from taking meds, but I could never see him giving up his sweets, potatoes and salty snacks. I was shocked when he actually gave up smoking, though, so anything is possible.

It's time to watch my soaps, and I want to do a little cleaning while I'm watching.
