Carol SueI was doing good on the SP, but I don't think the new plan is working so well. I think it is because better to put a # of point or calorie to every food. I'm not sure having 0 pts is a great thing. I just may have to go back to counting calories on MFP. Not necessarily what I want, but the WW website doesn't offer the previous SP plan any more and I just don't think I am doing well with the FreeStyle of so many free foods.

I'm not to sure how much longer I am going to try the WW FS because I just can't let any of this get out of hand. I really don't want to gain weight or my FBS to go back up. I still check bs before main meal and it is still in the low 100s. I think it was 106 today. That is good.

Yes, I know we want to lose weight and we want to be healthier. I'm just disgusted with all this right now. I will get over it in time.

See Trish, that's what that other woman posted about Freestyle, and I tend to agree that it CAN happen. That you can eat only 0 points foods and be satisfied, but then you have all these points leftover and when you add them, you are overeating. So maybe that's what is happening with you. That's a shame. That's what I was telling one woman, that I didn't want to sign up for online WW and then find out it wasn't working for me. I think this Freestyle is similar to Simply Filling where you eat from a certain food list but don't count anything, then use weekly points if you want them. I think the people who use and love WW want to see those points, then they know they ate right. It's the same with those who track daily and count calories. They want to see that number. So maybe you're right that it isn't for you. Only you know for sure.

I think it's great that you have such good BG before your meals. I think that indicates that you are eating right and I think that's why you have such a good A1c. So many people say that because the DP is so hard to control, FBG is of lesser importance than Post Prandial readings. You still want to eat for weight loss, too, though. I understand that.

Last night I was reading the CAD/CALP threads on LC forum. They have really died out over there. Almost no one is even posting. There was this guy who followed it 100% to the letter and lost 40 lbs or so. He was on there posting a lot of information to newbies on what they were doing wrong. He seems to have memorized the books and knows everything about it, like that other woman who used to post there. When I get time, I'm going to get my books out and reread them. There were things he mentioned that I never heard of before. Maybe I scanned through the book before and overlooked a lot of stuff. He was saying that every step is there for a reason and you have to follow it exactly. I don't trust myself to do it. I can't seem to follow any plan 100%. I do need to find something to keep me from the snacking. I think the main thing for me would be if I wanted something, I could save it and eat it with my RM. I don't know if I can be that disciplined not to eat between meals. I think I would like to eat 1 CM, 1 RM and then 1 CM snack in the evening since my supper is so early. And I would have to keep my carbs at the RM at only 1 and have it be a small serving. The worst thing for me to do is get a spike in the evening, then I can't get it down and it's high overnight. I don't sleep well if my BS is high during the night. There are some things I'm not sure about, like whether I can have a protein only breakfast or whether I HAVE to have veggies with it. Or if I can have an all veggie meal, with no protein, and whether I can skip the carbs at the RM altogether. I want to be able to have them if I prepare them for DH, but don't want to feel that I HAVE to eat them if I don't want them. So I'm not saying I'm going to do it, but I want to read the books, and I don't know if I have time right now with Christmas coming.

Carol Sue I'm feeling better today. My weight was up .2 of a lb and my FBS was 158, but I don't consider that bad considering what I ate yesterday. I had 38 weekly points yesterday because we splurged on KFC eating and now have 22 pts left since I used a lot of them yesterday. However, I did eat only 2 meals and I think that is why it went so well. It could have been worse if I had eaten anything during the evening. I don't plan to use any more of the weekly pts and I hope to add to them the rest of the week instead. I would like to get used to using weekly pts during the first part of the week instead of later. I decided to check the bs just before breakfast and it was 135.

We didn't meet for breakfast today so I had my homemade taquito and only used 3 pts for breakfast. DH bought enough KFC for us to have it again today so I'm going to cook it in either chicken or mushroom soup and have eat the leftover veggies although I didn't like their potatoes as they tasted like powdered instead of actual mashed potatoes. I bought some frozen corn on the cob the other day. DH doesn't like the way corn tastes any more so I may let him have the potatoes and gravy and I wlil make me 1 small cob for me and I'll eat some of the coleslaw. The corn is a 0 pts and I'm going to take the breading off my piece of chicken so that the white piece will be 0 and the dark will be more like 4 or 5 pts. I'm going to try to have 2 - 4 pts to rollover tomorrow.

No plans today or tomorrow because DS is sick. Friday will be really busy this week. She and I go get a permanent Friday, then we are meeting Daddy for lunch. Friday afternoon DH and I have to go for his eye appointment. He is having cataract surgery on the left eye next Wednesday. Tuesday DH and I will go do Daddy's meds and then we will all meet at Texas Roadhouse to celebrate DH birthday early. DBIL is going to have to have a sinus surgery sometime within the next week. He had a tooth pulled a while back and an artificial tooth put in but the hole never has healed and a CT scan shows that there is junk that has gone up into the sinus through the hole and they have to go in and clean it out. So DS and I decided that we might not be able to all get together to celebrate Christmas because the guys may not feel like it. Thus the decision to celebrate DH birthday the day before his surgery. DH birthday is Christmas eve. We never celebrate it on Christmas eve.

Carol Sue, I am going to do my best to only eat 2 meals a day with the idea that I can have a snack if needed. However, I want to try to not have the snack. I'm not going to follow CAD rules. The one problem I have with CAD or any of the Hellers' books is this... the do work for a while, but after the last book that came out, I am not sure it works long term for any one. In her last book, even she couldn't follow any form of the CAD/CALP plans long term which was the reason for her new book.

I do need to read up on those links you shared. I won't be going too much next week since DBIL is going to be off work until after the first of the year. I think his company shuts down. I won't be going any where much for a few days after DH surgery. That will be a good time to read them.

Have a good day.

Trish, I don't have the new Heller's book. I will see what I think about the first two.

I did not do well today, but I took my Glimiperide so my blood sugar didn't spike. That's not the way I want to handle it, though. We went to McDonald's for breakfast and I ate the english muffin. Then DH wanted Wendy's for dinner. I wasn't going to get anything but I ended up getting a crispy chicken sandwich and ate the bun, too. So too much bread for me. I also snacked on some leftover turkey today, too. I'm going to try not to eat anything else this evening.

We went to Walmart and they didn't have any of the Milk Chocolate Dove candy that DH buys, so he got Kit Kat instead. I can really pass on Kit Kat. I will do much better without that candy in the house, plus he didn't get the gum drops either. He buys gummy fish and bubble gum, and hard candy, too. None of that appeals to me. He is a big sugar junky. I would love to check his blood sugar but I'm afraid to see the results. He would be a terrible diabetic. He always said he would not take meds for it, but would do whatever it takes. I can't imagine him giving up his sugar. LOL

We are supposed to get a big snowfall over night. We got an inch or two the past 2 days, but are supposed to get 4-6 overnight. Guess I'll get my boots out.

Carol SueToday hasn't been my best either, but I refuse to give up. The KFC chicken is gone now and DH said he wasn't going to buy it again because it is too expensive. We do better with Bush's chicken because I only buy exactly what we will eat and no more. However, I am going to try not being any fast food fried chicken for awhile. I would do better if I cooked my own. Any way, I am going to work at eating clean the rest of this week.

I'm actually thinking of low carbing again. I really don't want to do Atkins low, but I maybe very limited amount. Perhaps instead of staying between 3 to 5 starchy carbs a day, I should set the goal of only 3 and no more at least in order to lose weight and keep the bs low. For now, I am going to just do my best to get through this holiday season with the goal to get really serious in January. I have a feeling that the holiday is part of my problem.

Stay warm Carol Sue. I think they have been getting the cold spell even worse in Canada. I hope everything is good for Fatmad.

Catch you tomorrow. Goodnight.

It looks like out snow total is around 4 inches. On the news they said that north of Pittsburgh got more than south, and we are south of Pittsburgh. But it IS cold. DH always keeps our house a little chilly for me, too.

Fried chicken is something I used to love but not anymore. I like it at Bob Evans or Texas Roadhouse, but theirs is boneless skinless chicken. For some reason, I no longer like the skin. The rare times I make it at home I use skinless chicken. I rarely fry at home, though. Too much splatter.

Last night at bedtime BS was 130. I did eat some potato chips. Not a lot. When I woke up at 4AM it was 160. When I got up again at 7AM it was 144. I have never had it higher in the middle of the night than in the morning. Strange. I think I give up on fasting. I will never have it under 100 like other people do. I am really hungry right now. I had black coffee, but it didn't curb my hunger like it does when I have my creamer in it. I would like to go back to eating breakfast and see what difference that makes, but DH usually cooks our breakfast, and he doesn't get up until at least 9AM. I am going to bake cookies this morning, and I sure don't want to be hungry while I'm doing that! LOL

I read the CAD book last night. I will read the CALP book today and then give my opinion.

I'm so mad. Our doctor won't renew our presciptions until we come in for a visit. I wanted to go, but not until after the holidays, but now I guess I have to go because we don't have enough meds.

Carol SueI am so sorry about having to go see the doctor to get your meds refilled. They probably want to be safe with the holidays coming up. How soon did they make your appointment?

I used MFP today instead of WW website. My calories for today is a little over 1200. I can still have a snack if I need it, but I don't plan to have one. I have found it to be so much easier to just count calories. I will leave the WW website just before time for them to take payment out of my credit card in January.

I was thinking today about the original calorie counting plan I did years go when I was in my early 30s and the WW 0 pts foods. In those days if you ate raw veggies, you didn't have to count the calories. However, if you cooked them, you did have to count them. So today, I only counted my salad as a tossed salad. I don't think it is necessary to count each vegetable that I used in the salad because I use such a small amount that I don't know how to count them. I just counted the calories in the 1/2 T EVOO I used in it.

I did do the 20 minute 2 miles on the recumbent bike today. I'm not going to follow any one plan any more. Years ago I was a member of a group called TOPS. I think they still have groups but there isn't one in our area. TOPS stood for Take Off Pounds Sensibly. We did it by counting calories. I think that is how I am going to diet now. This way there are no foods off limits, just keep up with the calories. This makes me feel more in control and freer. My FBS is staying in the 140s to 150s. I figure my A1c could probably be in the 6s right now so it hasn't become too bad as of yet. So I think this is the best way for me to go. I hope I can keep the bs under control without going on meds in January and maybe if I'm careful throughout the rest of this year, my A1c will at least be in the low 6s by the time I see my doctor in late January.

Tomorrow is going to be very busy. Hair permed in the morning, lunch with Daddy and DS. Then I need to run by the store to get some veggies and milk. DH has his eye doctor's appointment tomorrow afternoon and then we plan to go to Sam's and eat a bite before we come home. Counting c alories will make things easier than WW pts counting.

I probably won't get by here tomorrow except to read real quick before I head out. So have a good evening and day tomorrow.

Trish, I did not make the dr appointment yet. The pharmacy called and said the doctor will not renew the meds. He changed from one practice to another over a year ago. We have still not had an appointment with him at the new practice, but he has been renewing our prescriptions so far. I guess we pushed the envelope, not going there for over a year. We are not even registered as patients at the new practice. I will have to call tomorrow and make our appointments. They will probably get us in next week.

I hope things go well for you and DH tomorrow. I'm glad you told me you might not get here because I would probably worry. Both of us seem to be here every day, at least once.

There is TOPS in my area, Trish. I saw it online, but I have no interest in participating. I think I just have to do this my own way. I also need to stop reading all these books. They just get me confused. I have to go back to eating only when hungry. My old habits are creeping in.

My DIL emailed me with some ideas of Christmas gifts for my Grandson. I just went online and ordered them from Walmart, and can pick them up on Saturday. What could be easier? LOL I remember the days of going from store to store looking for the things the kids wanted. I hate doing that and I hate the crowded stores this time of year.

I got 1 batch of cookies baked then I got tired. Maybe I will bake another batch tomorrow. One cookie broke so I ate it. LOL That's my excuse, and I'm sticking to it. I got my Christmas Cards sent out today. I am down to 15 now. The older relatives are dying. The younger people don't send cards. That is a dying practice. I remember when I was young they put extra mail deliveries on each day to handle all the cards that were being sent. We used to get hundreds when I was a child.

I didn't get to read much of CALP today. It sounds so much like CAD, and this book is a lot of recipes. I think the rules are basic and it doesn't matter which one you follow. I think we know wha we can and can't do and it's just up to us to do it.

Have a good day tomorrow.

A quick flyby.

Carol Sue I probably wouldn't go to a TOPS meeting if they even had one here. I live too far out to go to meetings that usually meet in the evening.

Obvious counting calories is the only way for me to go. My weight is already coming back down and my FBS was 135. That is just one day back to counting. I will continue doing this.

I didn't have time for breakfast so I just had a cup of coffee and part of a banana for 85 calories. I only at a Jr. Whataburger w/o cheese for lunch so I've only had about a little over 400 calories so far and we will eating out today which mean I have lots of calories left. I'm just eating what I want when I am hungry and no more. Funny thing is I ordered just the burger and Daddy and DS followed suit. When the food arrived they realized they didn't have fries or onion rings. I told them I forgot about them because I wasn't having them today. They decided not to get them either so we all did good and no one missed them.

Got to run. Have a good day.

We went to a casino closer to home today because the weather was iffy and we didn't want to drive all the way to the other one. This casino doesn't pay out as well as the other one. By the time we ate, I was starving. I rarely feel hunger because we are always eating it seems, but get DH on a slot machine and he won't leave. I was really, really hungry and I got a Antipasto salad. Either it was the best salad in the world, or I was really really hungry! LOL I was very happy with myself that I got that instead of something more carby, a burger or fish sandwich.

I called the doctor to make our appointments and we can't be seen until Jan 17. I explained how we needed our meds, but it seems there was a mixup and the DR did approve them, but not until yesterday afternoon, so that's why the pharmacy didn't have the info. So we are getting our meds, and we don't have to go to the doctor until 2018. That's the way I wanted it. All is well.

Carol SueWe had a casino not to far from us when we lived in Sol FL, but we never went there. I've never been to one. DH isn't into it and I'm afraid that if I went to one. I would love playing the slot machine and probably would never know when to stop. LOL!!!

I know you are glad you have another month before having to go to see the doctor. We go next month too. It gives me time to enjoy some of the holiday eating while counting calories. Hopefully I can do it within my calories each day so that I can at least stay where I am weight wise as well as my BS readings.

I had to go to Walmart this morning. I thought DGGS gift was going to there so I could pick it up this morning early before everybody got out shopping. When I ordered it, they said I could pick it up after 6pm last night. When I checked online, it was still in Mesquite, TX up by Dallas. It may be in tomorrow or as late as Monday. I'm not sure I saved anything by picking it up since I'm going to have to make an extra trip. I should have just had it delivered. I have his birthday present. He will be 4 yrs old Tuesday and I had hoped I would have had the train by then so I could have my DGS pick it up and put it under their tree. He loves trains and I couldn't decide for the longest whether to get a push train since he is so little or go ahead and get an electric. Rather than electric trains, they seem to now have battery operated, so I finally got one of those. My grandson will have to play with it with him, but he loves spending time with his son so I decided they could both enjoy it. This will be a starter train for my great grandson and we will find out if her really loves them as much as his daddy thinks he does.

I haven't eat yet. I was going to eat breakfast when I got back, but it took me longer shopping than I thought and was noon when I got home so I decided to just eat my daily banana and wait until lunch. That is one of the nice things about having no rules but my own. I don't have to eat unless I'm hungry. Oh, I cancelled my subscription to WW today so I'm back on MFP again. I set the calories up to my high which I don't plan to use most days. I kind of liked the idea of JUDDD and may kind of use the idea of low days and high days but mostly in between.

Hope all is going well with you. I'm still not hungry, but I'm sure DH is so I better go cook and feed him. Catch you later.

Have a good day.

Trish, the slot machines really are addictive, but we have a limit to spend and don't go over that, and it's always money that's left after all the bills are paid. DH is very addicted. He insists on going every week. I enjoy it, but would prefer less often. We do win pretty often, but lose often, too.

Remember when I told you I have to eat when he eats even if I'm not hungry. Well, today I told him that he wants to go to the casino every week, and he fired back that I always want to eat. LOL So just wait until the next time he asks what we're having for dinner. I will just tell him I'm not hungry and that will be the end of it. He starts every day around noon, asking what we're having for dinner, but everything I tell him, he says he doesn't want that. I ask what he wants, and he said he doesn't know. I told him if he waits until I want to eat he's going to get very hungry.

I picked up my Walmart order today, or I should say, DH did, while I did a return. They asked him what was in the order, then they opened to box to make sure it was what he said it was. I wonder what would happen if he didn't know what I had ordered. I don't know why they did that unless they are having problems with people getting the wrong item.

At our Walmart, they send an email when your order is in, and you have to bring the email with you and it contains a barcode that they scan. One time I tried to pick up an order without the barcode and they said I had to have it. I thought all Walmarts would be the same.

We did so much running around today and I left the house without taking any of my meds no blood pressure pills or anything. I felt terrible. My blood pressure was probably high. I carry my diabetes pills in my purse in a little pill box in case we stop to eat, which we did.

I'm going to be going to bed early tonight!

Carol SueMy previous MIL used to go to a place in OK and gamble once a year. She saved a coffee can of coins throughout the year and took it to gamble. When the money ran out she would quit. However, she won sometimes as well, but I think she and her sister lost more than they won. LOL However, they had a lot of fun. Their hubbies left them pretty well off so they didn't have to worry about money.

DH doesn't usually care what I cook, however, he does usually decide what we are going to eat when we go out or bring something home. I have to admit though that we pretty much like the same foods when we go out. I usually decide if I am buying and bringing it home so it is only fair that he decide when he is with me.

I've done pretty good today. FBS was 131 and 120 before I ate main meal. My calories today ended up being just over 1400 and I ate it within 8 hrs. It would be nice if I could do that everyday. I guess it just comes down to working to have more good days than bad.

I think Walmart pickup is the same here as well because it said to wait until they send the email. I figured that meant I have to copy and take it with me to get the order.

I hope you got a good nights sleep. I'm staying up to watch a Christmas movie with DH and plan to sleep late in the morning if I can. Usually when I plan to sleep late that I usually end up waking up early. So we will see.

Goodnight.

Trish, recently I have been sleeping really well when I first go to bed, then I wake up around 2 or 3 then can't get back to sleep for a while. I really hate that, but I don't want to take meds to help me sleep, so I just deal with it. Sometimes I can go back to sleep.

I would be very happy if DH would choose where we go to eat or tell me what he wants to eat, but he won't. He wants me to decided, then tells me no he doesn't want that. LOL

At 6 AM I checked BS and it was 190. I was tempted to take my AM Glimiperide then, but didn't, and I'm glad, because when I finally got up at 9 it was 159. I just don't get it. I am reading Dr Bernstein's Diabetes Solution. It has been recommended to me as the best book for diabetes but I never read it because I have read so many. I finally got it from the library. He is type 1 himself. He discusses both type 1 and type 2 and goes for a very low carb diet. He explains things more than some others. I am going to read some of it over again and will post what I learn. I read it last night and I was tired.

It can be fun playing the slot machines, but my problem is that we go too often for my liking. I have won big a few times, $6k twice and some smaller amounts a couple times, but we have come home with empty pockets quite a few times, and if I kept track over the years, I would think we lost more than we won. The big wins here and there help to balance it out, though. Some people never get a big win like that. If I win a couple hundred dollars, I try to bring it home, but DH gets greedy and thinks he will win even more, so he puts his winnings back in the machine. Sometimes it works in his favor and sometimes not. It's best if we eat when we first get there because once he gets playing a machine he doesn't want to leave it. It's true that we do not have any other vices. We don't drink or smoke. Mostly we just stay home all the time. Gambling can be a terrible addiction if you don't keep it in line. So can eating. LOL

I saw a jacket I liked at Goodwill, and today it will go down to 99 cents, so I want to go back and get it. It's nice, and if I don't keep it, my step daughter would like it. So that's my excitement for the day, besides baking more cookies.
