Trish, in my case, the antibiotics made the psoriasis go away, not make it worse. I don't think I ever took any antibiotics growing up. When we got sick we just rode it out. I got colds and earaches, but never sore throats. It wasn't until after I read that the Guttate Psoriasis is caused by an infection that I made the connection of it going away for a while when I had to take all those antibiotics after my surgery. I do know that antibiotics can cause a yeast infection. When I do have to take antibiotics I eat a lot of yogurt and I don't get infections. Maybe eating yogurt would help with this now. I have been taking Probiotics, but not for very long.
There are a lot of ointments they have for psoriasis, and when people want it to work faster they wrap a bandage around it, so that might have been what they were doing with your grandmother. My DH made me so mad today. He keeps telling me all sorts of things to do for this psoriasis but I ignore him because they are things that I don't think will work. Like sit in a bathtub full of bleach. Yeah, I'm going to do that. LOL Today when we went out to eat I wore capris that came to mid calf and a short sleeve shirt. He told me I should wear long pants and long sleeves so no one can see it. I am at the point that I want to feel comfortable and if people are offended by it then they are looking at me too closely. It's not THAT noticeable at a glance. I asked him, "If this spreads to my face, should I put a bag over my head?" I am very fortunate that it's not on my face, and there are people who have a lot worse disfigurements than this. He just needs to get accept it for what it is. |
Our minister's wife back home had psoriasis all over most of her body from what I heard. I didn't know it until my Dad was upset with the pastor because of his attitude toward her for a while. It wasn't on her face and she wore dresses so it didn't seem to be on her legs. She wore dresses with a high neck line and long sleeves. So yes it could be worse. I hope you get answers.
I'm sorry Carol Sue but I couldn't help but laugh when I read your DH said sit in a bathtub full of bleach although I found it more crazy than funny. Reminds me of some of the crazy things DH says thinking he is funny and I just look at him like he is nuts. They are crazy sometimes aren't they. I think if you are comfortable to heck with what others think. I used to worry about what people thought about things and then I looked around and realized that people are so caught up in their own lives that they don't really pay attention to what I'm doing. So do what you feel like doing. I forgot to share that this is the end of day 2 on my ZBD/WWP+ plan. I actually ate less today. After our main meal, I felt so full that I did not get hungry for dinner or a snack. I think the fiber is beginning to make me feel satisfied and doing this on my own with my own rules I'm not under pressure to eat a lot of food I don't want. :carrot: This is working for me. |
I'm glad your new plan is working for you Trish. Yes, DH comes up with some really weird ideas and you can't change his mind. I just ignore him. LOL He tells me that people will try to get away from me when they see the psoriasis, but I don't care. It's not like I did this on purpose. It is really not that noticeable. If I am going somewhere specific, like a gathering of some kind, I will dress the best I can to cover it up, but simply out in public, shopping or out to eat, I dress the way I am comfortable. No one has ever commented on it or asked what it is. For the most part, I don't know those people and don't care what they think. They are probably just thankful that it isn't them.

Morning everyone
When I had Psoriasis on my legs it didn't stop me from wearing shorts or capris,,,even to work. I'd people didn't like it they didn't have to look, was my way of thinking. I also would sit with my legs in the sun,,,, Back on track eating wise....down another pound this week! |
p.a. the sun used to really help with my psoriasis but not lately since it has become so much worse. I really haven't been in the sun much lately. For some reason it is much more itchy than normal, and it makes me think it might be something else beside the psoriasis.
Good for you on being down another pound. I think I'm up 2. |
Morning
Carol im sorry it's so itchy,,,it's so hard not to scratch to. I would scratch till they bled :/ I hope you get some answers soon... Off to use up a few coupons today on new clothes. The other day I took my belt off my capris and they fell off along with my underwear... TMI? Lol Time for some new sizes. |
Carol Sue Sorry the itching is worse. I do hope you can get help. I suppose it could be anything from environment to food allergy.
p.a. Congratulations :carrot: for losing enough to need new smaller clothes. That is fun. We went out to eat at Chili's yesterday when we went to Charlotte. I like the Classic Nachos so I decided to order it with the guacamole added to it. I figured on my new plan that the black beans and guacamole made it diabetic friendly. Interesting results. I normally would have gained between 3-5 lbs from eating off. My weight was only up .6 lbs and yesterday my FBS was 165 with the Januvia. Today without the Januvia it was 159. It would have been better if I had fasted longer, but I decided to eat around 10 instead of 11 or 12. I normally would have used DH glimepiride, but decided that I want to see how I do without the Januvia on my own. I decided to have a vegetarian day today and see how I do. Had my steel cut oats like I've been having everyday. Decided to have a salad, quinoa with lentils and an ear of corn (all allowed on ZBD). I'm curious to see how this works on my bs. If it doesn't work in my favor, then I can always take those things out of my plan. Just experimenting. Although I ate the nachos yesterday, the rest of the day was OP. I counted my lunch as using all my 35 weekly pts. So I'm on regular daily pts today. I've gone back to my 20 minutes on the incumbent bike. I don't think my other activity can count as part of my formal exercise. I have decided that I need to do it and maybe the 20 min 5 or 6 days a week has to be done. So I will keep that in my plan regardless of any other activity that I do since it seems to be so helpful in lowering the bs. |

Hi Rennie:wave: ZBD is the Zero Belly Diet. How are you doing?
|
I'm doing :) Trying to fully get back into the swing of things. I am re-visiting the Dukan Diet which helped me before until I fell off the wagon.

p.a. I have scratched until it bled also, and that doesn't take much because I take a 325 aspirin every day for my heart. Good for you on your pants falling down!! No risk of that happening here! I used to have a pair of elastic waist navy blue pants that I always wore to work. I loved them and they went with everything. One day, the elastic got dry rotted and broke, but the pants didn't fall down! You know you're really fat when the elastic breaks and your pants still don't fall down! LOL p.a. what did you do that you no longer have psoriasis on your legs? I post on a forum from the National Psoriasis Foundation and people post so many things that they try that work for them. Some of them are so far out! I've tried a few of them, but probably didn't give them enough time to work. It's weird, so many people have psoriasis, but I have never known anyone else who had it. My mother used to complain about a little dry itchy patch she used to get on her forehead, the size of a dime. If she could see me now! Trish, it sounds like you are liking this new plan you're trying. I have never noticed a difference in my BG when I eat beans or not eat them. I make this salsa that I love, and it's black beans, corn, and chopped onion, with acv and oil and some dry seasonings to taste. Some recipes call for chopped tomatoes and peppers, but I don't usually have them on hand. I use frozen corn so I can add less than the recipe calls for instead of using a whole can of corn. I eat this as a snack over a few days, and I don't really notice a rise in BG over what I usually get. It's bread that does it for me most of all. I go close to 300 when I eat bread. I can't seem to eat a small portion...it's just a trigger food for me and I get completely out of control with it. Best to stay away from it altogether when I can. I think it's large quantities of carbs that are not good. |
Rennie So good to see you here again. I know you're busy, but I hope you can come around here more often.
Carol Sue I had forgotten about your salsa. I wanted to try that and I do believe I have all the ingredients on hand to do it. Thanks for reminding me. Yes, I am enjoying my way of eating. I've actually taken the things I've read and learned and made up my own personal plan that fits me. The other day after looking at the paleo book for beginners to see what was on it concerning psoriasis, I realized that I really like eating that way. So today, I have made up my own weight loss plan using the paleo ideas as a base for it. However, I am including some things I think don't really matter and that I really do like such as whole milk. I read an interesting article on yahoo yesterday where research is showing that people who eat the fats we have been told was bad for us do not experience diabetes or heart disease. In fact, they are now saying that it is when people stop eating these fats is when they develop these diseases including gaining weight. They say this is because fat in the full fat foods actually make you feel more satisfied so you fill up faster and eat less. Also the lowfat products have sodium and/or sugar and other ingredients that make you gain weight rather than lose. My Thin for Life book says that people who successful lose weight and keep it off keep journals of what they eat although not all of them count calories etc. I've decided that my personal way of eating will include a journal of what I eat each day. Since I keep a close watch on fbs/bs, weight and pb, I will be able to keep a close watch on what foods work for me and which ones do not. I'm finding I don't really need a lot of food on hand because I'm not hungry that much now that I'm getting used to this. My food bill should come down some as well. I got nervous about eating hardly any meat yesterday so I took one of DH glimepiride last night and fbs was 121 this morning. With my new plan, I shouldn't have to take one any more as this way of eating seems to lower it. I'm strictly doing this with diet and exercise now which is nice. I don't have to eat to take any medicine any more. I only eat when hungry and only eat as much as I need to feel satisfied. I do love this way of eating. Y'all have a nice weekend. |
Morning everyone
Trish I'm glad your finding a WOE that's working for you....I like the HFLC way as well. I do watch my fat intake though....but I make sure I buy full fat products now no more 'fake' stuff.... Carol I found an OTC jar of ointment that worked on my legs...sorry I have no idea the name I never had to buy it again. But I had two spots on other parts of my body that were just annoying...very small but itchy. Since I've gone low carb they have disappeared. They were similar to the ones you described regarding your mom. Just small patch that was scaly and dry. The other morning when I had gotten home from my holiday, I got out of bed and right away noticed my feet and knees were so achy. I had to stand for a minute before I walked. I used to feel like this every morning but not anymore. I had to think about why? I remembered the day before when I was flying I had a sandwich for lunch and then again for supper....... A light bulb went off!!!! The bread!!! I used to eat bread everyday,,toast,,,sandwiches etc. I havnt for 5 months. I havnt had any since being back and no more aches!! :) Heading out with dgd and dd today...have a good day! |
p.a. it's very possible that bread is causing me problems because it's the one roadblock for me. I have such a hard time cutting it out. I have also heard that weight loss helps with PS and my PS started around the time that I started gaining. When my PS went into remission after my surgery, I had also lost 15 lbs from the surgery, which I have now regained. There are so many possibilities.
Some people get a rash when they eat carbs, like Trish, and others get a "low carb rash" from eating too low carb. Everyone is different. Trish, I never ate low fat products, and I still got diabetes and gained weight, so that kills that theory. I have always been of the belief that I am going to eat things that taste good. I would rather eat the tasty food and eat less, than eat low-fat food and eat more. When I think of low-fat foods I think of vegetables, which are naturally low fat. The only exception is the low fat milk I buy, which I rarely drink. We just don't like the taste and greasy feel of full fat milk, and back to my prior statement, I don't eat/drink things that don't taste good to me. Life is too short. |
I want to share a link I just found. Years ago I lost approximately 70 lbs and thought I lost it mostly by doing Carbohydrate Addict's Diet. However, at the same time I was reading a lot of nutrition books and other IE type books although Intuitive Eating books were not out then.
Once I got gained the weight back, I never could figure out what I did or why I was able to lose the weight back then but couldn't do it again. Then I found this link by Dr. Susan Peirce Thompson and she explains how the brain affects our eating and how it all works. Now I not only know how I lost the weight back then, but I also know why it works because I know what was going on in my brain when I ate the way I did. I now know why I am having a difficult time staying on a "diet" plan because of how I'm eating is affecting my brain. This shows me what is working when it works and what I'm doing to stop it from working. So I thought I would share this with y'all because you might find it helpful for you too. This the link to the 1st video. http://freedom.brightlineeating.com/ff-video1 Now that I know how this works, I will be able to go back to eating the way I did back then and get this all under control again. Oh, I wanted to edit to say I ended up with a 1.8 lb loss and lost 1 inch in my waist this week. |
Good for you Trish, I hope this continues to work well for you!
|
Nice going Trish,,,, do you have to pay for the rest of the videos?

I hope everyone did well in the month of September. Since this thread has slowed down so much I decided to just make and ongoing thread instead of a new one each month.
