I cannot believe it's almost June! Really had hoped I would have made more progress by now. I'm getting so tired of hearing 'it's a marathon, not a sprint.' Totally get the logic behind it, but that doesn't make it any easier to handle.

Trish, I actually have read great things about Golden Corral, just because of the veggie selection. I find it much easier to portion control in a restaurant vs. eating at home.

You said something last week, I think, and it really stuck with me. While preparing yourself for WW, you gave yourself the day prior to eat what/how you liked and felt great afterwards. Maybe that's the key? Not an actual plan, per se. Just do your thing and if you find you overeat for one meal, cut back for the next and move on with it.

That would not work for me, bc the minute I saw the scale go up, I'd decide I need a whole new WOE and wouldn't convince myself just to stick it out for a few weeks.

It takes 21 consistent days to make a new habit/break an old one...maybe we all need to give ourselves a three week challenge.

As far as moving, is there any chance of using your current home as rental income until property values rise?

Carol Sue, the NoS diet might be suited for you, just from what your wrote about living at home. The basic idea is, no seconds, sweets, or snacks unless it's a day that starts with S; weekends and special days. That's it and the rest is up to you to tweak.

I love the premise, but I struggle with one area. My DS1 wakes no later than 6 every morning, so I am up by 5. The space in between my meals can be 6-7 hours and I've not found a way to survive w/o some sort of snack.

Now, I will be the first to admit that this could be entirely mental, but I just can't move on from it.

I can also convince myself that everyday is special, so I should just eat, LOL.

Carol Sue We aren't signing any contracts until we know what we can get for this house and what the house will cost us there. So we are still in the planning/checking out all possibilities before we make that step. I suspect it could be as late as October or November before we do that which might work out better because DGS has another year to graduate from college. I'm too chicken to make that kind of commitment unless I knew how it was going to turn out. I have a set amount of money I want leftover after selling this house and purchasing that house because we will be taking the money and paying cash for the new house. If that isn't possible, I'll forget the deal.

Elizabeth I totally agree with you. I am so tired of making no progress. I weigh exactly what I weighed when I was pregnant with my son. I've lost and gained so much weight since then. I was 25 yrs old then. I'm probably going to have to change my ticker because I don't think I'm going to even weigh what I weighed on May 1st.

I did like some things about the No S Diet what little I read. I think I could tweak it for me. I want to go back and read the testimonies of how it works for others.

I'm on the run to the beauty shop and store so this has to be a flyby. I'll try to get back here later.

I didn't need any glimiperide today at all! This is the first time in a very long time, and I am so proud that I've done this. I don't know how low my carbs were, but I don't think I had any starchy carbs. I took my Metformin as usual.

I was reading an article about controlling leptin, which aids in weight loss. It said that cutting calories lowers leptin, so you should have a "cheat" day once a week, but just eat a bit more, not a carb fest. Before, I never understood the reason behind a cheat day. I thought it was so you didn't feel deprived from eating your favorite foods, and I always thought it would just start a binge for me. Years ago, My SIL dieted 6 days a week, but on Saturday they went to this one restaurant and had her favorite meal, veal parmesan with spaghetti, and she and husband would split a pitcher of beer. That was her cheat day and she went rignt back to her diet the next day. She lost 96 lbs and has kept most of it off. She was not aware of this theory of leptin, she was just able to stick to her diet because she knew she could eat what she wanted on Saturday. I guess that is something like the No S diet. I don't know if I have what it takes to stick to that now. I have very little faith in myself when it comes to weight loss anymore.

Trish, I am also tired of not making any progress, but I don't see myself making the necessary changes to make it happen. Unlike you, I have not lost and gained over time, it has just been gains, with no losses of more than 5 lbs. Something has to click in my head to make me do this.

Elizabeth, I too have heard about the 21 days needed to break/change a habit.

I also read recently that it takes 3 days of clean eating to lower your glucogen production. Your blood sugar may roller coaster during that time before it levels out, leading you to believe that something you ate caused a spike, when actually, your body is just adjusting. I think that's what happened to me in the past few days, and today is the first day I have seen much improved blood sugar. I don't expect that I will every see double digits, but 1teens and 1twenties are very acceptable to me.

HI all, have limited internet here on our island (Manitoulin) but just wanted to say hello. Arrived late last evening, today was rainy but did get in a short walk during a lull in the rain. Mostly did errands and indoor stuff. Had supper with family at the other cottage down the road. They are being quite kind and hosting things while we are building. Tomorrow I plan to build the cupboards we bought for the place.
Have a good weekend.

A quick flyby as we are going to church this morning.

I've been reading on the NoSdiet testimonies. I am starting it today. It is going to be nice. I ate what I wanted this morning and the interesting thing is that I only wanted just enough to take my pills. I had half a serving of oatmeal with a serving of pb with a very small portion of banana. I used just enough banana for flavor with cinnamon only because DH only wants a very small amount of banana to take his pills in the morning. Keeps me from throwing it away and I don't eat too much.

I ended the month with drop of 15 pts in fbs than what it was on May 1. Will see how the weight is tomorrow. I'll judge the weight on the 1st of each month.

Have a good day.

DH went for McDonald's breakfast this morning so I had a sausage McMuffin. Just sausage and an english muffin, no cheese or egg. I'm making meatloaf for dinner, so I have to decided on lunch. I might have a salad with some cut up turkey breast and cheese. I have iceberg and romaine that I mix together. I don't really like this turkey breast that I bought at Walmart deli, but I will eat it instead of wasting it. It's ok when mixed in with something else. The dog loves it! LOL From now on I will stick to the Honeysuckle.

There was a $1 off coupon in my Health magazine for Arnold's Healthfull bread. I was going to try it but I looked online and it seems it is only sold in New York and New England. I was interested in the one with flaxseed and sunflower seed. I guess with my love of bread I'm better off that they don't sell it around here. I'll stick to my 45 calorie Sara Lee. I have some end pieces in the freezer. I think I will put them through the food processor and use them for the bread crumbs in my meatloaf.

I did take a Glimiperide this morning since I was eating the English muffin, but it was planned, and I hope to be carb free the rest of the day and not need another one. I can make this work.

momwithdogs 05-31-2015 08:10 PM

Carol Sue, you can get Arnold's in other areas, but under different names- you might see it as Brownberry or Oroweat.

Drives me nuts how items are sold under different names in different sections of the country.

This article has some other examples.

Sometimes, I buy 10-15 McDonald's breakfast sandwiches at a time and freeze them. An Egg McMuffin has 300 calories and if I eat it at home, I won't be tempted by hash browns.

Any potato product excites the heck out of me, LOL.

Trish, I really hope NoS works for you. I stalk their forum sometimes for tips. One thing I learned with that one...3 meals a day does not have to mean B,L,D. You can eat at any hour, just not more than 3 full plates in a day.

I will be starting it as well on Thursday- my company leaves on Wednesday and I'm not going to try it until I'm not entertaining full-time.

See everyone in June!

Elizabeth, I've seen Brownberry in our area. In fact, I use Brownberry stuffing mix for stuffing turkey. It's my favorite. I buy a bag of seasoned and a bag of plain and mix them, as the seasoned has a bit too much seasoning for me. I don't know if that will mean that they have this Healthfull bread because on the coupon it specifically says Arnold. I will look around. It's good until 8/31/15.

Have you ever bought the Jimmy Dean Delights breakfast sandwiches? They have egg whites instead of whole eggs. My daughter-in-law buys them at Sams Club in big packages. She likes them because she can take one to work and heat it up when she gets there. She's always in a rush in the morning. I bought them once, but I was eating them too often since I had them on hand. I usually try to have eggs with no bread.

I didn't do as well today as yesterday. When we went to the grocery store they were grilling hot dogs in front of the store as samples and of course I had to have one! They were Sugardale, the kind we always buy, and they were passing out $1 coupons, so I got 3 coupons out of the deal. I didn't have time to make the meatloaf, so we ate a rotisserie chicken from the grocery store. DH has fried potatoes with it and I had cole slaw. I will make the meatloaf tomorrow.

I have started the new thread for June and will close this thread.
