Well, today my fasting blood sugar was 111 -- highest FBG in weeks.
I blame the 1/4 cup of brown rice I ate before bed, and also a 2 a.m. argument with my husband over the yorkie "sleeping" with us (keeping us up all night). So today is first day of Diabetes Miracle, which is MUCH stricter than the changes I made to lower my blood sugar to where it is now. The main suggestion I had is to read the Blood Sugar 101 website (which is free) and test many times a day. 8 times a day is not too much at first so that you can eat to your meter. I can tell that DM is going to be challenging as a vegetarian, and there are parts I am not going to follow. Thank you for your kind words, but I was lucky, my diabetes II was caught early by a very good family practice doctor. 2 and a half years ago my a1c was only 5.5. I had a major life change -- going to work full time at a very high pressure job and by the time I quit, I had diabetes. |
Lettingslenderin, I was not aware that you are vegetarian, or I just forgot. That is really going to be a challenge, as most low carb plans focus on meat. But the change you have already made in your blood sugar tells me that you know what you're doing.

Happy Monday ladies! We were back to our routine today of preschool. Mark left on his business trip - he is taking the train this time because it is a much shorter trip than having the layovers and driving an hour to and from the airport - so I got him off to the train. I also registered for some business classes at the community college. I am really excited that my very small town has a "small business center" - in fact, it was originally started eons ago by DH's father (who passed almost 10 yrs ago). They offer FREE small business start up classes like "how to write a business plan", "basic bookkeeping", "allowable deductions", etc. They also offer FREE counseling! This will be a great resource to me as I prepare to open my small business sewing from home. The classes are just 3 hours on one evening for each topic so very manageable. I also signed up for beginner sewing class. I had called a couple months ago when I saw it being offered and asked if someone like me who has been sewing a while but never formally taught would get anything out of it and based on the discussion I decided to sign up. It starts in Feb and runs for about 8 weeks, one night a week. All the one night only business topic classes are in February as well. February will be busy!
I am eating the leftover Shrimp and Grits for lunch right now - yum!! The cauliflower as "cheesy grits" is REALLY good!! I will make it again for sure! I bought another spaghetti squash to experiment with this week. For that casserole I cooked it in the crockpot instead of the oven like I had done before and cooked it WHOLE, not cut in half...and you know, it was much better than when I cooked it before. I have still not started rechecking my BS. I need to get back into that. There is a reason why - it's my stupid finger. I have not regained use of the finger I injured and cannot do much with that hand - I can't hold the lancet with it to prick my other hand's fingers and I don't want to wear out my couple of fingers on the left hand that I can use. Excuses I know but it is a real issue. I need to practice holding the lancet with the injured finger hand and try to get more confident. |
lettingslenderin Sounds like you have a good plan going for you. I have seen some low carb books that can be done by vegetarians so I hope you find a way to make that work for you with the DM. Good luck on your journey.
Carol Sue I'll have to get The Metabolism Miracle book and see how it is done. I do remember that it is done in 3 Steps instead of 3 Stages. I remember something about 5 and 5, but can't remember much about it. So far it sounds like it may be similar to the DM. Shannon We had that faucet in our home in FL. It is a nice faucet. I'm sorry you are still having problems with the finger. Hope it will eventually work itself out. Mad It is so good to see you posting again. I have often thought of doing South Beach again. Just not sure I'm ready to do something different than what I'm doing. While I love Atkins, I have had to face the fact that it isn't going to happen for me. Well, my weight is back down to where it was before the holiday eating. And my FBS is staying in the 130s. So my personal plan is working very nicely. I think as long as it is working that I'm not going to change anything or try anything else at this time since it has taken me so long to find what would work for me. |
Trish, you are doing well with your WOE. If it's not broke, don't fix it! Stick with what works for you.
I used the wrong word. It is 3 steps, not 3 stages. It is probably very similar to Metabolism Miracle. I'm not sure what you mean by 5 and 5. Shannon, the courses you are going to take sound interesting. When i bought my sewing machine back in my 20's they offered free sewing classes meant to teach you how to operate your new sewing machine. I enjoyed them. Tell me more about your spaghetti squash casserole. |
Carol Sue here is a link to the breakfast casserole with the spaghetti squash (which also has a link to cooking it in the crockpot)
http://www.satisfyingeats.com/breakf...ghetti-squash/ and here is a link to another recipe I want to try this week after I actually make the squash in the crockpot http://asweetlife.org/recipes/twice-...ghetti-squash/ |
Hi gang:
for me, I have gotten back to a bad habit of eating in the evening, even though I am not hungry. I have a bit of reflux, but I eat anyway. SO the last couple of days, I have not done this. Its a start. Today was a long work day, ( and very bitterly cold, and I was going from car into houses all day) but I got on the treadmill for a few minutes tonight. I made a home made pizza with alfredo sauce instead of tomato for supper. My resolution regarding my diet for this week will be to add more leafy greens, perhaps steamed stuff for now. Carol Sue: you are right that your blood sugar will go down if you don't eat, but eventually, you will start to go "too" low. This will make you feel hunger, and also your body will start to mobilize its reserves, possibly causing "dumping" of stored glucose. Also, the feeling of deprivation may lead you to over eat, or eat "bad" foods. (how many times have we eaten a lot of junk food when we get too hungry?) All these things can cause your sugar to spike high. While eating every 5 hours may not be for everyone (I agree, keep an eye on how your body reacts) the theory of keeping sugars stable and not high or too low is a good one. Personally, I find cheese is great, its a nice slow burn for me and keeps me satisfied for a while, likewise peanut butter. Well, thats making me want to eat, and I don't want to do that before bed, so will sign off for now. ttfn |
Mad, you are making small changes, which is a very good approach. Sometimes when you jump in with both feet it is too overwhelming and you cave.
Today I am doing the test to see what my blood sugar does over time without food. I want to see at what point my body will do a liver dump. Anytime I had to fast for a medical procedure, it never went below 100, no matter how long I went without food. The one time I am thinking of I was scheduled for an outpatient procedure and didn't eat overnight. When I got to the hospital, they prepped me, then the doctor had an emergency and I didn't get taken until afternoon. They tested my blood sugar before the procedure and it was 113, and that was about 20 hours after my last meal. I might have gone up and down a bit during that time, but the end result was 113. Usually, the longer I go without food the less hungry I am. Eating seems to put my appetite in high gear. Once I start eating, I just keep eating, and eating. Hunger has nothing to do with it. I was getting ready to do my exercise yesterday and DH wanted to go to WalMart. So I went with him, but took my cart and did laps around the store. I can do that when it's not too crowded. We went to Target after Walmart and I did the same thing there. It put a couple thousand steps on my Fitbit and 2 flights of stairs. No stairs in Walmart or Target, but it seems when I increase the intensity of my walking, my Fitbit recognizes it as a flight of stairs. LOL Shannon, thanks for the links. I will check them out. |

Well, I did it, I checked my FBS - 127 - yep, back up again. That night time eating is probably keeping it high. Well, now I know where I am starting. I stayed up late last night working on my sewing room then Olivia woke with a bad dream and asked to get in my bed (since Daddy is away) so I let her. I hope this week doesn't totally derail her sleep progress. It is hard to keep her out of my bed when DH is gone. We both sleep so much better in the same bed, LOL. I get uninterrupted sleep, which is a rarity so it's hard to turn down. I decided I need to get back on my probiotic. That helped me the first time I tried to go low carb last year. I have alot of it left since we bought a 6 month supply and I only took it about 2 months. |
I used to have terrible reflux. I was diagnosed with a severe hiatal hernia. I haven't had reflux in years now. I don't know what I'm doing different other than not as much nighttime eating.
Shannon, what does the probiotic do that helps you with your eating plan? I don't know if sleeping with you is such a bad thing if it can be limited to when DH is away. If it's helping both of you sleep better...... |
Hello everyone and Happy New Year
I have been away ~ the longest I have been away from home and the longest I have ever been gone from here. We went on a road trip ~ 24 days. It started out ~ my husband's brother wanted to have a sort of mini family reunion (only one of our kids had ever met his kids ~ I had only met these nieces and nephew once) and he wanted to do it in Asheville, NC and go to the Biltmore Estate ~ he had never been there ~ and thought it would be neat to go at Christmas time when they have it all decorated for Christmas and lighted up special. My husband figured that since we are retired we could take our time and drive instead of fly. And since we were up that far (from Texas) that we might as well go a little farther and see some more of our family. So we went all the way north to the Buffalo, NY area where DH's aunt and cousins live, and a lot of places in between. I am so thankful that on our entire trip, we didn't encounter any snow or ice/freezing rain. It was plenty cold and windy sometimes ~ I didn't enjoy that too much. It was a good trip. We got to see and do a lot of things and see friends and family we hadn't seen in a while. Just the same, I'm glad to be back home. I was hoping to get to stay home and get stuff put away and kind of relax a bit, but end up having to go out today. Oh well...... Hope you all are doing well. |
Hi all! It's my birthday! For the first time in ages, I weigh slightly less than I did this time last year. Woo hoo! I'll take it!
I've been having a lot of success with eating and keeping my blood sugar in check, but it's a little higher than I'd like in the mornings. Last night I was STARVING before bed and out of desperation I had turkey and Laughing Cow on a whole wheat English muffin. This morning I had the best reading I've had in weeks. Do night time snacks help or hurt you guys? I will catch up with everyone else in a bit, I love reading everything but I'm out of time to respond. Off to take my kid's violin to school and just realized I sent her without lunch so...probably should pack something. Oops. |
Gayle, I missed you. Glad to see you're back. I remember you said you were going on that trip, but I forgot. Glad you had a nice time and the weather cooperated. I would like to go on a road trip one of these days. Some friends of ours from around here (SW PA) went this past summer and drove all the way to the west coast. I would love to do that. I have seen some other parts of the country, New York City, Md, NJ, MO, FL, NV. But I would like to see more. My little doggy had to be put to sleep last week so now we have a little more freedom to travel. We never had anyone to watch him.
Secondhalf, sometimes bedtime snacks help me and sometimes not. I can't seem to get it right. It has a lot to do with what you eat and how much. I'm glad it helped you! |
Gayle Welcome back. Sounds like you had a really nice road trip.
Secondhalf Happy Birthday!!! Congrats on weighing less than last year. That does feel good. I am thankful for the few lbs less than I did last year and although it wasn't as much as I would have liked to have lost, I am thankful it was a loss and not a gain. Since the Diabetic Miracle book has come up and shared on here, I'm testing the snack before bed. So far my FBS is still in the 130s which is fairly good for me. Fatmad I've kind of eased into the plan that is working for me. It doesn't hurt to ease your way into finding what is best for you. I'm sure you will figure it out. Glad to have you back with us. Shannon I agree that having Olivia sleep with you so you both get a good nights sleep won't hurt as long as she knows it will be only when her daddy is gone. Sometimes we just need the peace of mind. lettingslenderin How did your first day on DM go? I got my MM book out and read some and I thoroughly believe it would work. I just don't think it fits into my lifestyle. Carol Sue I got the Metabolism Miracle book out and looked up the 5x5 rule she had in it which as far as I remember was in Step 1. She allowed some low carb breads etc, but the rule is 5 grams with a 5 hr period. In other words, you could have 5 grams of net carbs (Dietary Fiber subracted from total carbs) every 5 hrs if you wanted it. As I just said above, I think the plan is great because it teaches the liver to handle glucose correctly, but I don't think I could do 8 weeks of it because we eat out so often. I could do it if I had 8 weeks to just eat at home, but I don't. I've thought about getting the DM book because I would like to see what she has learned and changed since the MM book. I realized last night that I eat about every 4 hrs on my plan and as shared above, I'm experimenting with having a snack of cheese with almonds a few hrs before I go to bed. That puts me over the 8 hr eating window, but as long as I keep losing weight and the FBS improves, I will continue doing that. Although I am not going to do the extreme low carb that she mentions in the MM book, I don't think it would hurt to even change my plan a little to eat every 5 hrs and end with the snack. She says in MM that it works out to 5 meals, but I don't think it would for me even if I change and eat within the 1st hr after I get up in the morning. A lot of good points. I finally started my exercising again yesterday. We are going out to eat and then to Sam's. I usually do so much walking when we go to Sam's that I count that as my exercise, but I think I'm going to try to do the 30 minutes 5 days a week that DM/MM books recommend so I just may come home and do 30 on my recumbent bike. I do enjoy riding it and since I believe a lot of this has to do with making new habits, I would like to make 30 minutes 5 days a week on the recumbent bike a habit. I am kind of a routine person so if I can get my eating and exercise into a routine, it should really be a big help for me. Ruthie I forgot to say anything to you when you stopped in here at the beginning of the year. It was good to hear from you. I know you are one busy lady, but I hope you will pop in here more often. Bonnie If you are lurking, pop in and say hello and let us know how you are doing. Anyone I missed and all lurkers  Have a great day. |
I pop in nearly every day but don't have much to say. My FBGL is good and my next HA1c results will be soon. Went to the doc with an earache yesterday and Dr Jack insisted we do bloodwork again while I was there. (The last was in August and was in normal range.) I suspect the "deviations" of December may show up this time. I gained 10 pounds that month and it sure is slow to come off.

Shannon, a friend of mine has been going to a chiropractor for over a year, taking various supplements. She originally went to him because she had excessive gas. He tested her, then began giving her so many different supplements to treat the things he says she has. Spent tons of money! She said she feels better but her weight didn't go down, and neither did her A1c. She is at 7.1 but won't take any meds for it. Something, probably the probiotics, did help with the gas.
I lost my sugar cravings when I started eating tons of vegetables. Now to find something to make me quit craving bread. LOL Ruth, I don't think 1 month of holiday indulgences will effect your A1c that much. You have been doing good otherwise. Trish, if I eat meals at 7am, 12pm, 5pm that is only 3 meals. 5 hours later would be 10pm, and that would just be a snack. She mentions eating another snack if you wake up in the middle of the night. If I got up to fix a snack I would never get back to sleep! I did do it one night. Maybe because you are eating every 4 hours instead of 5 you are adding one more than I am, but it could be a snack, not actually a meal. The 5 gm of carb can only be certain things. Most of them are breads and crackers that you have to buy at speciality stores or online. I don't want to include them because my mind would see that as "I am allowed bread and crackers." I do better when we eat out because DH and I are ordering separate meals. I can order a completely carb free meal. If I cook at home, I'm making carbs for DH. Seconghalf, I forgot to say Happy Birthday! Hope you had a good day. Dgramie said she would be back after the holidays. Well, it's after the holidays! Where are you dgramie? I have just about given up on seeing Rennie here again, but I would be happy to see her just the same! |
What was Rennie's screen name? We can search her out.
|
I have texted with Rennie since I moved but probably not in the last couple months. I know she is now working full time and only has Sunday off, she gets home late from her route. I think she's just not online as much anymore.
|
Rennie is Love2b150. I see her posting on 3FC, but she is more into weight loss challenges. I just thought maybe she's lurking and mentioning her name would get her to pop in and say Hi.
Same with Donna. She is also busy with "lotsakids" but does pop in here once in a while. I am always concentrating on lowering my BS for health reasons. Maybe if I focused more on losing weight the BS would naturally come down along with it. Rennie and Donna have both lost a lot. My test for the liver dump was a miserable failure. I forgot to consider that it would mean I couldn't eat. I went a couple hours and then DH made breakfast, so it was all over. I did stay low carb most of the day and my BS stayed under 200 after meals until I got to dinner. I made beef stew, with the intention of eating the meat and veggies and leaving the potatoes for DH. Well, it was so good, I ate potatoes. I was so mad at myself that I didn't even test after dinner. Breakfast and lunch are always low carb. Dinner and evening is where I waver. Today I'm making beef vegetable soup at DH's request. That is relatively low carb. If I can keep myself from eating after dinner I can do my "over 5 hour" test. Today will be an IF day with a 6-7 hour eating window. IF makes me feel good. Maybe I should go by how I feel, not by someone else's idea of what I should be doing. Isn't that what I always tell you, Trish? LOL I need to formulate Carol's plan. Either way, I love our little group here, and always like to hear what everyone else is doing and about their success! |
Hi everyone!
Today is my meeting with the diabetic nurse or nutrition consultant or whatever the heck they're calling her. I hope to get some good info, so I'm kind of excited about that. My very first fasting reading was 219 and this morning it was 129 so I think I'm "proving" I can make big changes with diet. Really really really want to avoid insulin. I know they can't MAKE me take it, but my doctor can decide if I'm not going to go with her treatment plan, I need a new doc and frankly that's just a pain. I'd like to ask to have blood work again in three months and see how things are going. We went out to eat for my birthday last night. Had taco salad with shredded chicken, which I love. My family does not love Mexican food like I do so on my birthday, I make them go :p My bedtime glucose reading was 119 so yay me! I just wish I didn't have that ten point jump over night. All Wannabe's talk about stew reminds me I need to get something in the crock pot so I don't have to cook tonight! We had stew a few nights ago. I just don't even put potatoes in it. No one noticed so score one for me! |
Carol Sue If I wait 5 hrs to eat, I really don't have time to include a snack. The snacking has always raised my fbs the next day. I had a low carb breakfast this morning. In fact, I actually thought that DM/MM makes Atkins look really easy. I don't know why I don't use Atkins or South Beach as a guideline. I do like both of them. I've always wanted to do Atkins, but never seem to be able to do 2 weeks of ID. I've always thought that Atkins would be good because if done correctly I could learn how many daily carbs my body can tolerate and still lose weight. Just don't know why I can't do it. Since DH likes simple cooking, I could easily cook a high carb food for him and me just eat the protein and low carb veggie. I know from experience that if I would do Atkins that my bs would be normal or almost normal next time I go for blood work, because I've done it before. So I'm going to have to really figure out what my problem is.
I also like the IF way of eating and it seems to work better for my fbs even when I do eat a little high carb during my 5 to 8 hr window. It all goes back to "one size does NOT fit all". We have kind of learned on this thread that we have to let each person find their own path/way that works for them and to respect their decisions because we have learned some can do it counting calories, some counting carbs, some with IF or whatever. I think we just have to keep that in mind and not be critical of what works for someone else. I too have often thought that maybe I should just center in on losing the weight and that the bs would automatically come down. I do think I need to start planning my food each day ahead of time, because I do have the foods to make better choices even for low carb meals/snacks each day and I think about them early in the morning, but then when I get hungry and need to eat, I forget about those foods and just grab something quick. So I think I need to start writing down what I plan to eat each night for the next day. TheSecondHalf Our doctor talked about DH going on insulin, but he said as long as he keeps getting better each time we see him that he won't put him on it. I think as long as they know you are working at it they usually will go along with us. Ruthie It is always good to hear from you when you can check in with us. I'm sure the weight will come back down now that all the holiday eating is over. |
Secondhalf, there's no way DH would not notice "no potatoes." I have nicknamed him Mr Potato Head. LOL
Does your doctor know how much you have improved your blood sugar? I think she will be pleasantly surprised and agree with you that you don't need insulin. Right now, insulin would would put you in hypoglycemia and you would have to eat more carbs to keep your blood sugar in line. I disagree with my doctor a lot, but I don't think he would tell me to find another doctor because he doesn't want to lose a paying patient. My husband is way worse than I am with not doing what the doctor says. Sometimes I think if he was not my husband, my doctor would throw him out! LOL Do you keep a written record of your blood sugar readings? If so, be sure to show that to the diabetic educator and also the doctor. I can't wait to hear how the visit goes today. That taco salad with shredded chicken sounds very good. DH will not eat Mexican, no matter what. Tacos is the best I can do with him. He is a "meat and potatoes" man. |
Hi all, just popping in. Have been good with the fitbit, am just a shade under 10000 a day this week. I am taking a mental health day off work today, as its been so busy and we had a hard day yesterday. SO I took something to help me sleep (herbal only) and had a good sleep. Its bitter cold outside, so I am reading by the fire and warming up the room to be quite hot. Will do my hot yoga at home instead of burning gas to go to town at the studio.
just limiting how much I eat has been helpful. I will start testing sugars again soon. I think I will have blood work drawn tomorrow am and see how things are going. I have a new doctor. She has been a locum for my regular doc, and now they are trading places, with this new woman as my doc and my old doc doing locums for her. I didn't like her much as a locum and was reserving judgement, but after my first real visit with her, I am more comfortable. She wants to see me every 6 months and do regular blood work. Is supportive of me being on metformin without a type 2 diagnosis (I was glucose intolerant, 1 level very out, the rest sorta normal) but wants to make sure we are not "masking" diabetes that needs more aggressive treatment. Another newer thing is that I went off my anti-depressants. I didn't feel I was getting much out of them, and some side effects were bugging me. Emotionally have been doing ok since (that was back in May) but not sure about the winter. I have a light box that I bought for DH a fews years back, and have upped my vitamin D, and take a tryptophan supplement in replacement. These have no adverse side effects, and won't hurt me, though its hard to tell if they help. The tryptophan helps me sleep anyhow, and thats always good. I am really happy to see such good discussion about diet and lifestyle habits and love how folks are really taking charge of their bodies. Have a good day everyone |
Oh dear, I went in for a "trim" and came out with no hair....what is wrong with people??
|
Trish, we must have been typing at the same time. I do not normally snack, as far as a scheduled snack is concerned. I do try to eat a few walnuts and a few olives each day for the health benefits, and will occasionally eat them between meals, without considering it an actual snack. I'm not hungry when I eat them, just want to get them in each day. I really should be tracking what and when I eat. I usually get a higher fasting reading if I eat a snack at bedtime, except for the 1 scrambled egg that I've eaten a couple times when I'm hungry at bedtime. My nurse at cardiac rehab told me not to eat a bedtime snack unless I'm hungry. That was probably because I need to lose weight and shouldn't be eating if not hungry. I usually get high FBG, bedtime snack or not.
Mad, although I have been going to my doctor for about 20 years, he just recently started having me get bloodwork every six months and then come in for a visit to discuss the results. I have always had the bloodwork done but got the results over the phone and he would address any problems. I am suspicious of the every 6 months visit. I think he just wants the income from the office visit. I go there, get weighed, BP checked and he says "Good job Carol. That will be $15. (my copay)" I do see my cardiologist every 6 months. The same is done there, but I agree that it's necessary as I have heart valve issues that need to be checked regularly. The PCP only handles my diabetes, and I feel that as long as my labs are good, the visit is unnecessary. This past time I did not schedule the visit in advance. I will get the blood work done, but not make an appointment unless I feel I need it. I need that $15 more than he does. LOL Well, I have not eaten yet today. I just checked my blood sugar and it is up 10 points from what it was when I got up, so I guess I did have a liver dump. Proves my theory wrong. But what would have happened if I had eaten? Wouldn't it still have gone up? |
I did not start Diabetes Miracle yet! We had a flurry of house hunting activity and last minute doctors appointments. But I did look at my food log on MyNetDiary Diabetes and found my daily net carbs for the past three months has been under 40. So it will be do-able.
Shannon, I use an Accu-chek Multiclix lancet because it is so easy to use and it's covered by my insurance. I order from my mail order diabetes supply company. It has a button and it's very easy to aim and use with one hand.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pM8aZJQ5Kb0 Do not confuse it with the Fastclix or Softclix. Those are harder to use. The Multiclix is being phased out, but it's still easy to buy them. |
Had my meeting with the diabetes nurse and it was great, very easy to talk to and answered my questions. Set some reasonable short and long term goals. My next apt is the day after Mardi Gras so if that doesn't keep the king cake in check, nothing will.
Just ordered a Fitbit Zip (thanks, ILs, for the gift card!) and super excited to try it out! |
The Second Half, Happy birthday!
|
Secondhalf, glad your appointment went well. Think positive thoughts!
Shannon, I have a hard time getting my regular hairdresser to cut my hair short enough. I think she likes seeing me come back so often. Last time she was off when I went and another girl cut it, and she followed my instructions. Now I won't have to go back for a while. So many people have told me I look younger! I like that, but I would also like to hear thinner! LOL |

I am deep into organizing my paper piles. I did the big reorg and declutter of my sewing room this week and as a result moved everything not sewing or crafty out of the room. That included a huge mass of paper - financial records that I have let pile up since we moved, piles of paper I actually moved from the old house to the new house, every piece of artwork I have saved from Olivia over the years that I have not decided what to do with, a huge huge pile of instruction manuals I have never filed, lots and lots of pattern and other tutorials I have never organized or filed, all of our medical receipts from the past year - we're talking a lot of paper. I've been making labels and getting stuff sorted and started filing and darn it, I ran out of my label maker tape. Oh well, that project has to go on hold til I can get more because I am really liking how neat all my files are looking when I type the labels!!
Okay, so how about we go back to bible study tomorrow and I have not done the lesson that we got before the break. I need to read and answer questions about 24 chapters of Leviticus! I had procrastinated on it because I have not been placed in a small group yet which means I have not been meeting to discuss the questions, just going to the lectures to listen. I was told it could be end of January before I was placed since I also need a spot in childcare. Well, today I got the call that Olivia and I have both been placed for tomorrow! Oops! Well, since Jan started I have been doing well with either staying low carb all day or at least until dinner. Today it was an all carb day. I was just tired and cranky! Anyway, hopefully back to watching it tomorrow! |
I am having crow for breakfast. LOL All day yesterday I didn't eat, and my blood sugar just climbed. So today I had a scrambled crow egg as soon as I got up. So I guess going too long without food does cause a liver dump and raise blood sugar.
If I had my A1c checked right now it would be about an 8. I won't post what my blood sugars have been because they are so bad I'm embarassed. I am not eating a lot of carbs, but I guess I'm eating enough to spike my blood sugar, or my beta cells are damaged. Last night I could barely read the computer screen, but I was OK seeing the television. Will someone out there reach across and smack me a good one in the head? |
Carol sue, I suggest you test 1 to 2 hrs after eating, and keep a diary for a while, to see how you react to different foods. It will be interesting, for sure!
I adjusted my ticker down! I am not doing anything but eating 3 meals a day, and a small evening snack. I am having toast even, but overall, lower calories I assume. Not counting points or anything. I think I was quite bloated after the holidays from too many treats, but this is better so some weight is coming off. Before the holidays I was about 183, so look forward to that number again. My mental health day off yesterday went well. I slept a lot, did some meditation, some warm yoga (couldn't get the rec room hot, even with a heater on and the fire roaring but it was -15 outside! ) and some time on the treadmill. Started back on call about 5 pm, and did a visit with a client, then had a quiet evening. Today is also very cold. Poor dog doesn't get much outdoor exercise! |
Because I take my Glimiperide only when I need it I don't put it in my daily pill box. I think I need to change that because today I ate a scrambled egg at 7AM when I got up and at 10AM my blood sugar is down 45 points. I know I took the Metformin because it is always in my pill box. But I don't think I took a Glimiperide, but I really can't remember. So I don't know if the blood sugar drop was due to eating the egg, or taking the Glimiperide. The reason I don't like to put it in my pill box is becaue I'm afraid someday I will take it automatically, even if my blood sugar is already low. That would be dangerous.
I'm a mess. I need something, I don't know what. Did I tell you what I did with my pumpkin pie yesterday? I baked it for 15 min at 425, but when it was time to change the temp to 350 I accidently punched in 530. Halfway through the cooking time I opened the oven to check them and the crust was totally black! The rest of the pie was fine, but we had to cut off the black crust around the edge. I am getting very forgetful and and absent-minded, having trouble concentrating. I thought this only happened to other people. My friend's mother did something similar. She was baking a meatloaf when her DH got sick and they called an ambulance. She wanted to go with the ambulance, so she thought she turned the oven off, but she turned it all the way up by mistake. When my friend got to the house it was beastly hot and the meatloaf and the inside of the oven was completely burned and black. She was lucky the house didn't burn down. By the way, I don't eat pie. It was for DH and step-daughter. |
Hello Ladies. I started my ToM yesterday and have been pretty miserable since. I don't feel like doing anything. Plus I feel cranky lol.
The weather is dreaful here, was just 2 degrees last night. And the wind is harsh. No way I am going out in that. Hopefully I can summon the energy to do the Wii later. I usually feel better during ToM when I get moving but starting to move is the hard part lol Carol Sue what if you had a separate pill case for the Glimiperide? That way you could tell if u took it or not but won't accidentally take it? I am sorry you burned your pie, that is pretty much how I always am in the kitchen lol. Very forgetful or make silly mistakes. I blame it on my bipolar lol. Shannon I am sorry about your hair! Bad haircuts are awful. Luckily it will grow back! lettingslenderin I love the multiclix. I used it before and it was the best. Now I am using the one that came with the ultra touch and I hate it. Just a pain to use. i wanna switch back but everytime I go to the store they are out of them lol |
Moonkissed, the separate pill case is a great idea! I never thought of that. I have a little round one with only 1 space per day from when I wasn't on as much medication. I could use that! Thanks! I tried to give it to my brother-in-law one time and he wouldn't take it because he says that's for old people. Well, I AM old! LOL
I also have to start carrying some meds in my purse, too. Sometimes we are out and then decide to stop for dinner somewhere and I have to eat without taking my meds. It would help to have some in my purse. No more TOM for me, and I don't miss him one bit! Only problem is, you have to accept being old along with it. |
Sometimes when I get online there are no new posts in my favorite threads and I just start reading other threads, just to see what everyone is up to, or might I say, down to. This morning I came across this very interesting, informative thread from 2008, where a poster gave a great review of a book she read about blood sugar, and I wondered if anyone else here had ever seen it. It is a sticky in Dieting With Obstacles.

Sorry that I missed checking in yesterday. The day just seemed to get away with me. I've really been fairly lazy this week just doing what I have to do because I don't seem to have much energy after my bought with the flu. I did decide after talking to my sister yesterday. (Thursdays are usually our talk day... thank God for cell phones. She lives in TX and it is almost as good as being there.) Any way she was telling me that her little 4 yr old grandson has the flu and the only way they knew that was what he had was because he kept telling them that his legs hurt. I remember last Saturday that I couldn't understand why my legs ached so. That with the fact that my neighbor told me that it starts the way I was with a scratchy throat. I am doing better but the cough and lack of energy seems to taking its time getting out of here. My neighbor had the same problem.
Well, I tried the eating every 5 hrs and the late snack. Only reason I did the snack was because DGS has been in FL since the 1st day of this year and I have been staying up late with DH although I try to get my 7 to 8 hrs sleep. After eating every 5 hrs Wednesday, my fbs was 129 yesterday morning. Last night I ate a late low carb snack because I got hungry just a bit before bedtime and my fbs this morning was 132. Maybe not up enough to worry about, but I do like the 129 reading best. I don't seem to get hungry before the 5 hrs is up. Although I do still like the IF 8 hr window best so I will make my time more of a 4.5 hrs apart. Doing that with IF, I only have time to eat 3 meals with no snack. I really like my last meal/snack to be 4 hrs before I go to bed. As long as I don't get any high fbs readings while eating just the 3 meals within 8 hrs. I am not going to change. I have done 2 days of exercise this week on the recumbent bike as well as the other activities that I do. Will try to get one more day in this week. I think that will work for me until I get my energy back to normal. Carol Sue Thanks for sharing the link to the Power Foods link. I have bookmarked it to read later. Shannon I wanted to thank you for sharing about the probiotics info. I had taken some of those a while back, but never finished them. I do have problems with yeast and can always tell because I actually get a yeast odor when I go pee when it acts up. I am taking the probiotics again because I've been having the smell again lately. Hope everyone has a nice day. |
