Happy Labor Day!

Well, ladies, I was thrilled to discover when I weighed on Sunday (for end of the month) that I actually had lost a couple pounds in August! That was a miracle! I think it only happened because I've been sweating so much. Honestly, I have spent alot of time going up and down stairs dragging stuff out of the old house and going from the car into the house with boxes at the new house. I think I just sweated off a few pounds! It definitely has NOT been diet! So, I guess occasionally exercise is more of the equation than diet! LOL!

We are still eating out a ton but I am hoping in the next week as preschool gets started, our house gets on the market and we are not making so many trips back and forth and as we get more moved in, we start eating in more (which will only happen if I start planning and executing meals as well, lol!). The junk/fast food still tastes good to me but I'm not nearly as excited about it anymore. I'm actually getting tired of it but not yet tired enough to get my act together in the kitchen!!! Soon, soon.....

We spent most of today running errands, unpacking some things and hubby set up a pretty big train track in the living room. It was sort of funny to me because in our old house when he set that up (usually only at Christmas) it took up the entire floor space of our living room. In this house (which has kind of a ridiculously large living room) it takes up about 1/4th of the room. I unpacked all of the boxes that were in Olivia's closet today - stuffed animals, some books, musical toys, etc. - and wow, her very neat room exploded! I am going to start purging some of her toys as we get closer to Christmas. I've been trying to sneak out some of the ones that she doesn't play with as much and some of the younger toys so I can pass them to my sister-in-law to store for my soon-to-come niece. I have not unpacked one single box in my (all mine) craft room yet. I'm not sure when I'll get to that room but I have some fall projects I'd like to get to so I need to start thinking about it plus hubby is going to a kite making workshop (actually sewing kites) in 3.5 weeks and I have my annual sewing retreat in early October. I have two closets I really want to organize (hall and laundry room cabinets) and then I think I'll start on that. The garage is FULL of stuff.....it can wait longer, lol!

Oh, also at the new house I have a bigger lawn and more landscaping (plants and shrubs) to care for and I know NOTHING about gardening so I need to research the plants and find out what needs to be done in each season, etc. There are a lot of dead leaves in the plants around the mailbox and the front of the house. I have been working on pulling the dead stuff out in the evening when the sun goes down and before I put Olivia to bed. Tonight Mark was out riding around the lawn on the lawn mower spraying weeds and I was pulling dead stuff out around the mailbox and Olivia was riding her (battery powered) 4 wheeler around the yard - that was kind of fun! I'm really glad we found a place with a yard we can enjoy! I am not looking forward to all the leaves to rake in the fall though - we had ZERO trees at the old house. Thankfully the lady we got our used lawn mower from also sold us a trailer that attaches to it so I can haul the leaves easily. I told Mark tonight we need to pay the money to get the "compost" bin that the city will pick up - we need it with this yard!

I used to have a goal of a new swimsuit in my signature line but I removed it because I actually got one a while back (in roughly the same size but not all stretched out) and haven't lost enough since then to need one for our beach trip coming up on the 14th. Obviously, I am not adding this to my signature but I did just order new bras! The cup size I ordered is the same but my rep (these are high end bras for those of us who need them, lol!) told me that in the band size I ordered (smaller) that the cup is actually one size down even though the letter stays the same. So, we'll see - they have to ship to me. Normally she does the fittings in person but I had to work with her in email since we've moved away so I described my weight loss and she estimated the size to order. She promised if they don't fit I can return them for another size so we'll see! On the topic of the beach trip - my sister-in-law who will be there is overweight as well and earlier this year she challenged my hubby to lose 50 lbs before the trip. Of course he hasn't lost much - the last time he weighed he had actually lost a little (probably for the same reason I did - sweat!!) - and I don't think she has lost any - so, I am actually the only one who has lost - YAY ME!

Oh, and I thought I'd share a link to an article on a cooking blog - this is a blog I get some of my recipes from and this blog post features a lady I've met through a couple low carb Facebook groups - just thought you might enjoy it too http://fluffychixcook.com/low-carb-k...ames-gismondi/

pattygirl63 09-01-2014 09:36 AM

Shannon CONGRATULATIONS on the weight loss. We take it no matter how it comes off. Down is always better. LOL The new house sounds like a wonderful new home for y'all to enjoy. You will enjoy that huge living room. I wish I had a larger one. Thanks for the new recipe blog site. I'll bookmark it to read later.

Monday is my WI day and I'm starting the month of September with a new low of 217.6. I actually lost 6.4 lbs in August. YAY!!! That is a new for me. My FBS was back down to 120 this morning so that is good too.

Making this a quick one for now. BBL

love2b150 09-01-2014 01:52 PM

Hello Ladies

Shannon you are busy busy, Congratulations on the new house :)

Trish nice loss for the month :) nice fbs reading :)

Carol Sue and everyone else  I hope all is well :)

I gained a pound in August and I am up 1.8 today to start September off at 161.6. Not good but it's just the feast that my Mom and I prepared for dinner yesterday :) my fbs was good at 118 this morning. :)

Shannonsnail 09-01-2014 02:13 PM

Hi Rennie! Hope your new job is going well!

pattygirl63 09-01-2014 02:21 PM

Rennie Your bs is doing good. The weight gain is probably just water weight and will go away in a few days. Glad you were able to check in. Always good to hear from you.

Wannabehealthy 09-01-2014 02:31 PM

I guess I'm down about 4 lbs for August, but they are pounds that I regained previously, so I don't really count them. My recent low was 193, so I only count the pounds I go below that, and that hasn't happened yet.

I have been eating well lately. Haven't been on the scale today. I did have a screw up yesterday and my BS spiked over 200. We went out to eat and I ate the salad bar and avoided all the carby selections. We had an offer for a 1/2 price appetizer though, and we chose fried zucchini. I thought "zucchini, good choice" but didn't give a thought to the delicious thick batter that covered it. I think that is what spike my BS because it was the only starchy carb I ate, otherwise, just vegetables. You live and learn.

Rennie, good to hear from you! We all know that a couple pounds up and down is normal and not a big deal. Good job with the FBS!

Shannon, exercise works and it doesn't have to be formal exercise. When you use your muscles, they continue to burn calories for a long time afterwards, so you are doing the right thing! I know you will get back to proper eating once you get settled in, and next spring and summer that yard will keep you active. If your yard has shrubs and periennels they don't require a lot of work.

Trish, good job on the weight and BS.
Hi to all. Have a safe and happy Labor Day!

love2b150 09-01-2014 02:32 PM

Thanks Shannon it is! :) Just trying to make it through the remainder of my 90 days.

Thanks Trish :) It probably is but it will turn into real weight if I don't stop with the carbs that have been calling my name for the last two weeks.

Carol Sue, I'm with you. I count it as a loss when it is actually weight not what I've loss and gained over and over :)

Ruthxxx 09-01-2014 02:55 PM

New month and new resolve. I really wanted to be below 180 today but am 180.2. Sheesh! However, that is the lowest I've been since 2012! (Actually, I'm amazed that I did go down 3.5 this month - it's been a stressful time and I have not been perfectly on plan.

After working three eight hour days this weekend, I took today as a "me" day and even celebrated with an ice cream. I made a rule that I could have ice cream once a month and had some in May but none since. I guess I actually was entitled to four servings but I held back!

I have eight huge green peppers on my kitchen counters and am looking around for a stuffed pepper recipe - has to be freezable and lower carb. Anyone got suggestions?

Hang in, chickies. We are getting there.

love2b150 09-01-2014 03:04 PM

Ruth great job on limiting yourself to one serving of ice cream :high: Hope you find the right stuffed pepper recipe.

Ruth I do not know whether this would be freezable but this is a chili stuffed pepper recipe that I make alot from one of my favorite gluten free, low carb bloggers http://alldayidreamaboutfood.com/201...uten-free.html

Shannonsnail 09-01-2014 10:53 PM

Almost bedtime ladies! I am tired! We ran more errands today (have been to Lowe's four times in the past two days, lol!), mowed the lawn and prepped 3 batches of my spaghetti sauce for the freezer. Thank God we got that used riding lawn mower before we moved. Hubby and I split the yard, he does the front and I do the back (bigger section) but it still takes an hour or more on the riding mower!! Crazy! I'm now glad we did not get that house with the full acre of yard!

So far in all the unpacking nothing has been missing or not easily found that we were looking for - I have, of course, attributed that to all the hard work I put into the packing process...LOL!....but tonight it has finally happened. I decided I was ready to start setting up my craft room - had not even walked in there pretty much since we moved. There are some sewing projects I want to get started on for fall and I got the bug tonight to do one of the smaller ones. I got my machines out, opened a few boxes, hooked up my stereo and was ready to start....hmmm, the CORDS and PEDALS to my machines are nowhere to be found....I have opened every box in the craft room and been out in the garage three times looking around....no luck! So, let's please all say a silly prayer for the locating of these items as I obviously cannot do anything with them!!

Since it was first of month, I checked my weight, body fat and FBS. My weight was down a couple more ounces and my FBS was 92. I am really happy about that. My body fat was up a little but it's not an incredibly reliable method anyway, I just like to see the trend.

After we mowed the lawn tonight I cut up watermelon and made tacos. We were hungry!

dgramie 09-02-2014 10:32 AM

Fbs was 91. Weight is still up at 266. I took measurements and OUCH! Time to get busy and get the weight off again.

Ruthxxx 09-02-2014 12:19 PM

That's a great stuffed pepper recipe, Shannonsnail. I'll try it as soon as my ground beef thaws.
Sure hope you find that sewing stuff - pretty essential!

dgramie 09-02-2014 12:38 PM

Oh Shannon. Praying you find your pedal and cords. I would be worried sick. I bought a used machine once and thought my cord would work but it didn't !

pattygirl63 09-02-2014 01:36 PM

Shannon Praying you find the pedal and cord so you can get your fall projects done.

Ruthie Won't take you long to get to 180. I'm going to make stuffed bell pepper tonight for my dinner. I'll eat half and DGS will get the other half for his lunch tomorrow.

dgramie My weight was up 1 lb and fbs was 144 this morning. I went crazy with the carbs yesterday. I think you just say Holiday and I think carby meals. I've got to change that way of thinking especially with the big holidays coming up. Getting back OP today.

I am beginning to have more energy. Not doing actual formal exercise, but I am finding that I not only am seeing the things that need to be done around the house, I'm actually having the energy to do the job. I've been busy cleaning this morning and I still have more to do this afternoon. Go figure. Not only having things to do, but actually wanting to do them and doing them. Great progress. Haven't felt like this in years. :carrot:

Wannabehealthy 09-02-2014 04:22 PM

My BS has been running high in the mornings, and I'm not even eating carbs! LOL It's the eating in the evening, which I've been doing lately.

Weight has stayed the same.

Shannon, that recipe looks good, but I have to put SOME brown rice in mine because of DH. I have cut back the quantity of rice a lot, and since I used brown rice once instead of white and he said it didn't taste any difference, that is my new recipe!

I sure hope you find your cords and pedals. They HAVE to be somewhere! You wouldn't have pitched them by mistake would you? Hope not!

Dgramie, I have to get moving with the weight loss too. My DR isn't going to be as happy with me as he was last time.

Hi Ruthie! Always good to see you pop your head in. Sounds like you're doing well!

Caramel33 09-03-2014 02:09 AM

Hello everyone :)
I'm new to this group and would like to start off with a question, what is FBS?
My Dr has been telling me that I am pre diabetic for over a year now. I will be going for my 2nd glucose testing on Saturday. I am so afraid of the results, diabetes run on both sides of my family. I started going back to the gym & eating better Aug 11th, I have lost 16 lbs but have a ways to go. My employer started a Biggest Loser challenge on Aug 18th (just in time for motivation) free of charge & the weekly weigh in will result in the biggest loser 1st place $100 & 2nd place $50. The first weigh in was Wed 27th (weigh in every Wed) & I was #18 out of 81, so I need to get into high gear. :strong::bike2::woops::running::exercise::ebike: :barbell: :workout:

HISTORY- on Aug 10th I had a big scare! After shopping with a friend we went to Sonic and bought an oceanwater limeade on the way home. When I walked in my house and sat down I was in a DEEP SLEEP within minutes. I remember a mosquito or something biting me and feeling the sting but I could not wake up no matter how hard I tried. I finally woke up 2.5 hours later but I was so drained that I couldn't sit up or move. I laid there for 20-30 mins because my arms and legs felt like they weighed a ton, never felt so weak/drained before. I was home alone which made it more scary. This is what made me go to the gym and change up my eating habits the very next day!
I have enjoyed zumba & turbo kickboxing. I am also walking/jogging a mile but my goal is to run a mile and work my way up to running a 5k.

Any advice that anyone is willing to share will be greatly appreciated.

dgramie 09-03-2014 08:15 AM

Fbs= fasting blood sugar. Mine was 101 today.
I did good yesterday. Hubby and I did a half mile DVD walk this morning at 6 am. We were shooting for the mile but decided half was enough to start with. We are more likely to so it in the am before kids arrive than in the evening after they leave.
I have to bake a cake for church today. We are having tacos tonight at church. I should be in great shape calorie wise and be able to have a serving of chips with my taco salad.
I have started back knitting and my yarn for the ruffle scarves will be in later this wk. hoping to sell some this winter. I did GREAT last winter selling them. I love having a craft going.
I need to get a tooth fairy pillow made this week to take to my granddaughter. She thinks she has a loose tooth. ;) she will be 6 next month so it's time.
Have a great day everyone!!

Wannabehealthy 09-03-2014 10:03 AM

Before I went to bed my BS was 92. I had a couple pieces of pepperoni and cheese before bed and I have to get back out of that habit. FBS this morning was 136! I think my poor sleep effects my FBS, so I don't give FBS a lot of weight as long as my A1c is good.

Welcome Caramel33! Dgramie, answered your question that FBS is fasting blood sugar...the first blood sugar test of the day, taken when you get up after an 8-12 hour fast overnight. It can also be called FBG, or fasting blood glucose.

Right now we have more pre-diabetics posting here than actual diabetics, so you will be in good company.

Depending on this coming glucose test, you should probably get a blood sugar meter and start testing your blood. If you are not actually diabetic, insurance won't pay for the strips, so you might want to go with what some of us use, a Relion Meter from WalMart. The strips are only $9 for 50 strips. You can discuss this with your doctor.

That episode when you had to take that 2 hr nap could have been caused by high blood sugar. If you had a meter, you could have tested your blood sugar to see if that was the case.

You seem to be doing very well with your exercise! That will really help with your BS.

Stick around and join in with our discussions. Some of us, like me for instance, have a habit of getting very long winded, LOL, but you will get lots of information about diabetes here. We tend to try different things and then report back on what helped and what didn't. We have discovered that each person is individual, and what works for some, doesn't always work for others.

Dgramie, I can imagine you would be too tired to exercise after a day of watching those kids, so you are smart to get it in before they arrive. It's OK to start out slow and build up. In time a mile will feel like nothing to you!

I used to do a lot of crocheting and now that I'm retired you would think I would have more time to do it, but now I can't get into it again. I do a lot of reading in my spare time. Wait a minute, ALL my time is spare time! LOL

pattygirl63 09-03-2014 04:13 PM

Caramel33 WELCOME!!! I think dgramie and Carol Sue already answered your questions. However, please always feel free to ask. I was born and raised in Waco, but lived about in the Dallas area for about 7yrs after I graduated from school. I think everybody from Waco moved to Dallas, Austin or Houston after graduation. LOL. Left TX and moved to FL and then here in SC after my 2nd hubby died and I married my 3rd hubby.

My fbs was 91, but sure it was a fluke. :?: Weight was up 3 lbs today. This seems to be a pattern that I have really got to find a way to change. I'll be glad when the new book gets here. I am suddenly craving sweets and wanting to eat at night. :?: So today I got up and ate breakfast before going to the store. I think the low reading caused me to need it. I had 1/2 banana and 2 eggs with a slice of Canadian bacon and a slice of American cheese.

Decided not to go to church tonight because it is fellowship night and lots of tempting food. I've got fasting blood work to be done in the morning and really don't want to screw it up any more than it will be from my summer of trying to get back OP since our trip. How long does it take to get me back OP. :dizzy: At this point, I can't blame it on the trip any more.

Just trying to keep the calories under 1400 each day.

Shannonsnail 09-03-2014 11:31 PM

Caramel welcome! I am also prediabetic. Sounds like you are on the right track. I totally agree that you should pick up a meter. I highly recommend the Relion from Walmart. The "prime" version has low priced strips that are great for those of us who get no insurance coverage.

I finally had a full day on plan of no wheat, no sugar! Hopefully getting back on track!

Caramel33 09-04-2014 01:47 AM

Hello ladies thanks for answering my question. My mom has an extra monitor it's an
accu-chek aviva so I will pick it up and start monitoring my BS.

dgramie 09-04-2014 06:59 AM

I skipped cake at church last night. Woohoo happy dance!!!
We had tacos , so I made a salad and limited chips. It was so good!! I may make some next week for our dinners.
My energy was so much better yesterday. I think the 10 min of exercise really helped.
My fbs was 91 today.

Shannonsnail 09-04-2014 09:00 AM

Good morning ladies! My daughter was up at the crack of dawn...it's going to be a long tiring day! I think she thought she was starting preschool today since we had the "meet the teachers" visit yesterday. Oh well, I'm going to crash later since I'm trying to cut back on caffeine and only have it at breakfast (since I've been having trouble falling asleep, even with the melatonin). I was able to get everything prepped for my pot roast and in the crockpot super early though plus make breakfast. We have to start getting up earlier and going to bed earlier anyway with preschool starting so I guess she is trying to get me ready, lol!

I found a new (to me) blog with recipes that I thought I would share - this chick's recipes are based on the wheat belly 'diet' - http://www.satisfyingeats.com/

I am actually considering splurging on purchasing her two cookbooks. I have been mostly getting recipes off Pinterest and blogs but I am really a "paper person" and it is driving me crazy trying to pull up recipes when I need them and printing them out. In the new house I am having issues keeping my connection to the printer, not really sure what is going on, but it is becoming a frustration in relation to cooking. I would really love to have some good wheat free cookbooks and so far, looking over her recipes and the table of contents for her cookbooks, I feel like they would be good ones especially the southern food one since there are alot of recipes in there that appeal to me for my family. Blah blah blah, I'm tired and getting wordy, lol!

Still no luck finding the machine cords and pedals :-( Yesterday I spent most of the afternoon in the yard working on raking leaves. We have a tree line around the back with monkey grass around the entire perimeter and it looks to me like the previous family just blew their leaves into that area rather than raking them. It's easily 6 inches deep of leaves, maybe more. I kind of want to get all that out of there before the new leaves fall. As I am raking them I am finding ant and termite colonies up under them and am spraying them. I just feel it's a breeding ground for bugs and my daughter and I are back there playing (the swings are in there as well) - I just don't like the idea of all that up under the leaves we are standing in. But it is a huge amount of leaves and I have no idea if I can get them all up. I mostly raked yesterday and only actually removed one small trailer full. I imagine there are like 20 trailer trips or more left to go for it all to be out. If I even just get the area done that is closest to the house where the swings are I'd be satisfied so I'm just working in that area to start.

Good job dgramie on the eating at church last night!

Wannabehealthy 09-04-2014 09:01 AM

Trish, I think God will forgive you for skipping church fellowship night. It is best when you have that blood work coming up. I will be waiting to hear your results and I'm sure you will be, too.

I was craving sweets a little bit yesterday, too, but there aren't any in the house right now! I ate a tomato sandwich yesterday and I think the bread gave me sugar cravings, even though it was wheat bread. Doesn't seem to matter to my body. Bread is bread.

Dgramie, exercise always give me more energy, too. The biggest thing is getting myself to get started. Once I do it, I realize how much better it makes me feel. Good for you on skipping the cake! Every time you do that it gives you more power to do it again the next time!

Shannon, good for you for getting back on track.

pattygirl63 09-04-2014 11:20 AM

Well, I got up and got to the doctor's office by a little after 9. Told the lady at the desk that I was early because I thought the traffic would be worse with kids in school. I was amazed that the girl came out and got me before I could even read one chapter in my book. I was through, stopped by the bank and home by the time that my 9:30. LOL 9:30 was the time for my appt. Wish it worked that way when you went to see the doctor. Get test results next Wednesday morning. Just not sure how they are going to turn out. My weight was back down about a lb or so from my low. FBS was 128 and that's with the 1/2 Metformin... 500 mg. I took it at 7pm. I just may have to eat something around 8ish and take it. I did eat more of a CAD meal at lunch yesterday and will probably be doing that today and tomorrow. I did have a teaspoon of CO in my coffee this morning.

Put the breakfast count on MFP and I've already had loads of fat for today. Not sure I really wanted to do that.:?: Will see how it goes. If the 1000 mg Metformin was the problem, then the fat really should not be a big problem. For one thing, depending on where we eat today, I won't be eating a lot of fat later today. But it does need to be more than my g of protein.

I want to read Wheat Belly book again and wanted to start it today since the book The Doctor's Diet is supposed to come in today. Not sure it will because the book that was supposed to be on the mail truck for delivery Tuesday, didn't come until yesterday. It is a book that goes to my beautician friend Saturday when I go to get my hair done. I wasn't really in a hurry for that one.

Carol Sue I am wondering if I have a problem with wheat. The reason for wanting to read the book again. I saw O'Reilly on his show and he showed a picture of the book and recommended people get off of wheat if they wanted to improve their health. However, I'm not sure I will ever give it up 100%.

I am so looking forward to Dr. Stork's Diet book. I do think eating some fiber especially beans is so good for you and helpful with bs control. DH isn't into beans much so I'm thinking about getting me one of those little crock pots (like I need another crock pot as I have so many sizes now) to cook them fairly fresh to keep on hand. I get tired of meat and they would make a nice evening meal that just might help keep my bs level better. At least that is what I read everywhere about them.

Shannon I wouldn't any kind of brush or leaves piled up. Too many critters can live in them. Good idea to get them out of there. Hopefully with Olivia getting up early means you won't have any problem getting her up for preschool. Will she be going all week or just a few days each week. Maybe you will be able to find some me time eventually. Sounds like she is adjusting very well to her new surroundings. You will have no problem getting back OP. I'm sure your 1 day will turn into many. Thanks for the blog, I've bookmarked it to look at it.

Caramel I think you are wise to get your Mom's monitor and use it to check. It does help keep you on track. Although I get FBS highs in 130 to 140 some (I'm not prediabetic), testing makes me work harder to keep it under that and I'm working at trying to get it under 120s and hopefully eventually under 100s.

dgramie :carrot:YAY for having no cake at the church dinner. I knew I just could not take the chance of that with my blood draw today. Especially since I was craving something sweet anyway. We have ours after each study series. Our new series starts next Wednesday and last for 7 weeks before our next fellowship dinner which will be 8 weeks from now so maybe I can get my act together so I can brave the next one. I've already told many of them that we don't eat that late.

Well, the mail just came and I have my new book. So going to go look through it before I call my sister for our weekly telephone visit.

Caramel I'm also one of those others who gets wordy and writes long posts that Carol Sue was telling you about.:dizzy:

Have a nice day.

dgramie 09-04-2014 01:06 PM

Trisha- we have a meal each wed night. The thought is more people will come to wed night activities. I like it because with babysitting till 5 I would be rushed to cook and get out the door on time to keep nursery. I think it's a great theory but a lot of work for the classes that cook.

bmillion 09-04-2014 05:37 PM

hello :)

I'm a brand new member who just found the site and I'm trying to get my health back under control. I'm diabetic and only a few pounds under my highest weight. I'm hoping that by getting my weight down I'll be able to get off some of my medications. Life has been especially crazy since I got married a few months ago, moved in with my husband, and now we're moving again (buying a new place and selling the old one). Our kitchen is totally torn apart and I haven't been able to cook for weeks, which makes it all so much harder.

Anyway I thought it would be good to start reaching out to other people for support. I tend to be really hard on myself so chatting things over with other people will be helpful!

pattygirl63 09-04-2014 09:53 PM

bmillion WELCOME to our group. So glad you decided to join us. This is a good group for support. Looking forward to getting to know you. I know things aren't easy to do when in the process of moving. Our Shannon on here has just made a move and in process of getting their old house ready to sell. So she will identify with what you are going through. I still have Cholesterol Clarity checked out from the library for another week, so I have started to re-read it. I'm reading things that I skimmed over the first time and really learning a lot. I am a little bit scared to tell my PCP that I quit taking my statin. He was so excited about my low cholesterol the last time and without the statin, it will probably go up..I just hope it doesn't go up too high. I think I'm going to tell him that I was put on meds without being given a chance to make dietary and lifestyle changes and now that I know more about it, I'd like to give it a try. How does that sound? It's really the truth, just not all of it. I don't want to tell him about what I've been reading because I know that most doctors haven't been convinced. I have to keep telling myself that I am in the driver's seat and he is just my navigator. The final decision is mine. I would really hate to be wrong and end up with worse heart problems.

Shannon
, I hope you found your sewing machine pedals! If somehow they got lost in the move, you could probably order new from the manufacturer, but if you did that, you would probably find the old ones! LOL

I finally tried some CO in my coffee this morning. I didn't know how much I was supposed to use so I put 1 tsp in an 8oz coffee. I added a bit of my creamer and mixed it in my knock-off bullet. It was fine while I was mixing it but as soon as I turned it off it leaked out. I lost maybe 1/4 of it. I never had that happen before but this is the first time I used it with a hot liquid. Maybe that's what did it. How did I like it? Fine! It didn't taste greasy like I expected, just a smoother texture than just coffee. I would do it again, but I'm wondering how I could stop it from leaking.

Edit: I did some research online and found out that it's the hot liquid in the Bullet that makes it leak. So I will either have to allow for the fact that some will leak out or find another way of mixing it. I don't want to buy another mixer and the Bullet is so convenient. :(

Carol Sue I had the same problem with my Magic Bullet when I made it the first time. I had to cut back on the amount of liquid in it and let it cook off just a little and also not shake it up before I mixed it. It has to have a little bit more air in it so the pressure doesn't build up in it.

I'm reading the Doctor's Diet. I agree with your assessment of it. He has a lot of good ideas in it, but not all. I don't think that I have to eat breakfast unless I am really hungry. However, I did have an apple with peanut butter as he suggests this morning because I knew I was going to be away from home at the time I usually would eat breakfast. I'm not sure I will do that everyday. I've just got to the part where he give his # of prescriptions. 1st one made me think of Intuitive/Mindful eating because he reminds you to listen for your hunger/full signals and pay attention to what you eat. Haven't read the others yet.

I like the idea of having 2 fruits a day although I don't that has to be written in stone. I will probably have days like today that I will only have 1. And of course, I like the idea of having grains like corn once in a while and beans too. In fact, I intend to soak some beans tonight so I can cook them tomorrow so I can have some of them Sunday. Don't think I want to eat them tomorrow and then go to church Sunday. LOL

My eating has not been OP all week. Just trying to stay within calories. Don't know what my problem is. I will implement some of the ideas from the book to make my plan more doable. I want to allow starchy type of carbs early in the day and then eat the lighter/lower carb foods in the evening.

I heard once that 2 best diets for losing weight is Lowcarb and Weight Watcher's. However, WW won hands down as being the diet to use to lose weight and keep it off in long term maintenance, because people who are able to lose weight lowcarbing seem to find it difficult to continue to do lowcarb long term throughout maintenance... they seem to gain their weight back within the first couple of years. So the way I see it, I'm going to have to find a way to make this work long term for me.

My oldest son, the truck driver, actually got a job to come here to get a trailer to transport back north, so he was able to park his truck at the Walmart closest to us for the night and we were able to get him and bring him here to the house for a short visit long enough to wash a few clothes, a shower and a hot meal. It was good to see him although not near long enough. However, I was thankful for the little time we had together.

DGS should be almost to FL now as we took him to the air port this morning so he could fly down for his 1/2 brother's bar mitzpha this weekend. He'll be back Monday night. DH and I have a very unusual "alone" weekend. Not anything special planned. Just be nice to be just us for a few nights. Then back to normal. DGS has been here for so long, I'm actually getting use to him being here and he seems to appreciate us and is very respectful toward us lately. So hopefully we are building a good relationship with him.

sorry kind of wordy again. Guess I better close and spend time with DH. We seem to be mostly watching movies tonight. :)

Y'all have a great week end.

Thanks for the warm welcome! I'm 29 and was diagnosed about 2 years ago. I'm not on insulin but I am on a few different medications. Just started glipizide which is actually helping a lot but I'm a little discouraged right now because my dr. just called with my latest test results and my a1c is a bit higher than it was last time. I know I haven't been eating all that well but my blood sugar readings had been trending better overall so I don't know what's going on. I do need to take more non-fasting readings though - it might be that I'm ok in the morning but spiking during the day.

As for the move I'm super excited - we're going from a small townhouse-style condo to a much bigger townhouse with lots more light and a big kitchen! Our current place has a galley kitchen and it's just about impossible for more than one person to be in it at a time. We have a lot of fixing up to do in our current place but the new place is totally move-in ready, which is such a relief.

Hi ladies,
GREAT news! Hubby found my missing cords and pedals last night!!! I was so inspired that I spent most of today (first day of preschool) unpacking and organizing my craft room. It is pretty close to being ready for me to start working on something!

My mom came over and helped me get everything from the hallway into my hall closet and laundry room cabinets and then helped Olivia work on her room a little after she got home from preschool. We have opened and broken down almost all the boxes that were inside the house and I have someone picking the boxes up tomorrow that is moving in this area. I also sold a wheelbarrow today! The garage is still very full and the upstairs is full but most of both those are boxes of my husband's and there is just not much I can do with those. They will have to wait til he is sick of seeing them, lol! I am doing what I can though to purge as we unpack and sell stuff on local Facebook buy/sell/trade groups or put to the side to donate. I really want to work on not filling the new house with clutter and unused items. I have alot of stuff in my craft room that I have had for years and have not yet used/learned how to use. I'm going to put a deadline out there for myself to get to using the stuff or to sell it.

Olivia had a great first day and seems to like the school and the teachers - I am very thankful! She loved her last school and teachers so I was worried she would not be as happy in the new one.

I got my new bras in the mail today and wow, what a difference! So glad I ordered them!! I think I look even thinner now, lol!

FBS today was 99 and weight was down a pound. I almost made it 3 full days with no wheat but tonight I ate some cracker type things at dinner. I also have had ice cream several times over the last couple days but other than that have not had any sugar....still a work in progress! LOL! I'm feeling more in control though than I had been so I think I'll be getting there soon!

So, I go on this annual sewing retreat (well, this will only be the second year for me but it's the third year it has been held). Tonight the organizer posted some pictures from last year of our group and wow, I have really lost weight. In my picture from last Oct I am definitely noticeably bigger. That is so exciting to me. I mean I have my own pics that I have taken as I've lost but there are not very many "before" of me because I avoided pictures so this is probably the first time I've seen a pic of me "before" that I was not familiar with from taking it myself. It was kind of neat!!

WELCOME bmillion! We are glad to have you here!! We just moved to a new house as well, almost double in size - so awesome!!! You will really enjoy the new place!! Our new place was move in ready as well and we, too, are having to do alot with our old place. Painting the entire house is going on right now, new carpet and new countertops are coming next week. We moved about an hour away so it's been a pain trying to coordinate things. We were hoping to have our house on the market next week but it's going to have to be during the following week to get all the work done.

Thought I'd share - here is the old picture of me that I mentioned from the sewing retreat - I'm in the front in the coral shirt and here is a before and after (this is the set I *think* is going to run in the magazine)

We went to the casino today and I ate a lot of food at the buffet, but no carbs other than vegetables. I was very proud of myself. I came home and checked my BS and it was 105. I was pleased with that. I also did a lot of walking around at the casino so that probably helped.

Wow, Shannon, that's really a noticeable difference! Good job! And I'm glad you found your cords and pedals. Well, DH found them. LOL

Bmillion, I think it's important to check your blood sugar throughout the day to find out what foods spike your blood sugar and which ones are safe for you. It's usually the carbs, like sweets, bread, pasta, rice and potatoes. Some people can eat a very small amount. They all spike my blood sugar.

Trish, I am almost finished with the Cholesterol book and am going to reread the Doctor's diet book again before I take it back to the library. I'm already starting to forget all that he said. I'm glad I have that website I bookmarked to refer to when I no longer have the book. I like the way he explains the why of everything. Did you ever watch the show? I am not really into TV doctors because I always figure if they are such good doctors what are they doing with a TV show, but he seems to know what he's talking about and he looks to be in great physical condition, so he must practice what he preaches.

I'm glad to hear that you got to spend some time with your son.

A quick flyby this morning.

bmillion You are young and can get the prediabetes under control before it becomes actual disease. I did that years ago when 1st diagnosed. I sit sometimes wonder why I ever let it get back to where it is. You can do this.

Shannon So glad your hubby found the cords and pedal to your machine. Sounds like things are actually falling together. The pics really tell the story of your hard work. You are still doing great.

Carol Sue No I haven't seen his show. I read some yesterday when traveling to and from Charlotte. Even read some to DH. Last night before it got late, I planned my meals for today ahead of time like he said. I just adjusted some things on it and printed it out so I'll have it to go by today.

Well, the last few days have been like "let's just pig out". Don't know why or what I was thinking. Weight is up, but I was amazed that my FBS was 116.:?: Can't understand that one. Oh well, got to get started doing what is right. I've got my plan and am determined to follow it today.

Got to run. Y'all have a nice Saturday.
