  • Carol Sue i want one to make zucchini noodles. I've been debating various options and can't decide what is the best tool for the money. Congratulations on your anniversary!

My BS was 104 when I got in bed last night and 129 this morning. See below. This lack of sleep is really not going good!!

This is copied from another thread I post on....just too tired to type something new.

I'm still in good spirits but something is going on with my sleep. I said I got a little more sleep night before last but what I didn't say was that I tossed and turned the entire night. I thought it was a fluke but the same thing happened last night. I take melatonin to fall asleep bc having disrupted sleep (due to my daughter) for almost 4 yrs has basically rendered me incapable of falling asleep on my own. I used to think the problem was caffeine but since stopping soda almost 3 mths ago the only caffeine I drink is 1/2 a cup of coffee in the morning so I just don't see how that small amount can cause this problem. I only make decaf tea at home and outside of the coffee and decaf tea, my only other beverage is water. Anyway all that to say that the past two nights I have taken my melatonin as usual but not been able to sleep. Last night in desperation I even took more melatonin around 2 am (had been in bed since 10 pm). I did eventually sleep but probably not til 4 am and my daughter was up at 6:30. Needless to say I am still exhausted. I'm pondering taking a benedryl tonight. The weight I gained is still hanging on. At this point, though I met it previously, I might not meet my chicken goal (a goal of 192 by May 14....another thread goal)
  • Carol Sue Happy Anniversary!!!

I think in the beginning that Atkins allowed unlimited amounts of protein, however, in the New Atkins Made Simple book, she says we shouldn't over do the protein/meat. Women need eat only 4 to 6 oz at a meal. I would say what satisfies you.

I'm on the run this morning and today. I just wanted to check in and keep myself accountable. I lost another .2 lbs. Since I don't like the sardines in olive oil, your way might work. However, I love smoked oysters and smoked mussels so I am going to try those and see how that works. Since I've got things moving again and numbers are good, I don't want to mess it up. My fbs was 119 this morning. So hope what I was going through was just a passing thing except for the not being hungry I would like to keep that one.

Well, busy day. Beauty shop, Walmart and then DH and I are headed to Charlotte. So I've got to fly.

Catch y'all later on this evening when things settle down. Lots of walking so exercise is definitely going to happen.

    Have a good day everyone

  • Chellewainwright, Welcome! We have all been through this many times, so the best advice I can give you it just keep trying!

First of all, do you know what type of weight loss plan you would like to follow? It helps if you choose a plan that allows you to eat foods that you like. Having to give up favorite foods sets you up to fail. Calorie counting usually allows you to eat whatever you want as long as you stay within your calorie count. Lower calories allows you more food, naturally. Many of us here are doing low carb, because it helps keep our blood sugar under control as well as helping with weight loss.

Also, it's a good idea to start some type of exercise program. If you are not used to exercising, it's best to start out slow, with just walking, and increase your time and intensity as you go along.

Since you have a history of being a secret eater, I think that would constitute an eating disorder. Did you see the section called Chicks in Control? It's devoted to people who have had various eating disorders and are working toward getting them under control. You might find some interesting information there, too.

    Here's a link.

  • Shannon, I am very sorry to hear that you are still sleep deprived. That's a terrible feeling, especially when you have a 4 year old who takes top priority. If I had any good advice I wouldn't be having the same problem.....difference is, I can take a nap once in a while and don't have a child to care for. I hope you are able to find a solution soon. I think it causes stress not knowing if you're going to get some sleep, and that makes it worse.

I think I would like to use some type of tool like that but don't know what vegetable I would use. It would be nice to have something else to put my sauce on when DH wants spaghetti.

Trish, I posed the same question on the Atkins board regarding the unlimited protein and haven't received an answer yet. I remember when I did it years ago, I lost no matter how much meat I ate, as long as I didn't eat carbs. On WW, fruits and veggies are free foods, but it also says they are not unlimited. My Atkins book didn't say one way or another.
  • Trish, JerseyGirl from the Atkins board said that the original Atkins does not give a quantity of protein, but instead just emphasizes the vegetable quantities. I forgot all about it and ate tomatoes today, so I don't know if I can actually do true induction.

I did very well today, but it's only 5:30 and I'm finished eating. This morning I had a deviled egg when I got up. Then DH wanted McDonald's so I had 2 Egg McMuffins without the muffins. I cut them up and threw they out for the birds. I was very proud of myself for that. I had some kale with mushroom, onions and feta cheese for lunch, and for dinner we got take out. I had a baked fish sandwich, lettuce, tomato and onion, without the bun. The birds are really getting well fed. LOL DH got fried fish and mac and cheese. They gave him 2 rolls, which he never eats. Their rolls are absolutely excellent. I wrapped them up well and put them in the freezer. Out of sight, out of mind. But the next time I just HAVE to have some bread, it will be one of those rolls, which will be really worth it! LOL

So I feel that I did really well today, as long as I don't eat anything else. Oh, I had a banana mid afternoon. We rarely buy them. I thought it would spike me but it didn't.

I am looking forward to seeing what the scale and BS meter have to say in the morning.

I had 2 cups of coffee before I read your post about the caffeine, and only water since then. I would like to have another cup, but won't.
  • I'm trying my usual melatonin tonight plus 1 benedryl....hopefully I sleep. I had an on plan day but my BS is 120 tonight. That isn't "high" but it was alot lower last night and I ate about the same....weird, I don't pretend to understand it!
  • I went to bed without eating anything else. BS was at 90, but I was not concerned about a low because I had not taken glimiperide. I slept until 1AM. I laid there until 3 AM. Very tired, but could not sleep. I was starving, and I had a headache. So I got up and took Tylenol and ate a hard boiled egg and checked my BS. 95. I fell back to sleep and slept until 7 AM. FBG 115. I'll gladly take that. I do not recommend eating in the middle of the night, but apparently I did not have enough for dinner last night, because what I was feeling was true hunger! Weight was 195 this morning. I think I was 196 the last time I weighed, but someone moved the balance beam on my scale. One more lb to get back to my ticker weight.

I'm drinking a cup of coffee, but plan on switching to water after this.

Shannon, I'm waiting to hear if you slept well. I sure hope so! Benedryl will put me to sleep, but only keep me asleep for 3 hours. There's no pill so far that keeps me asleep all night. I usually get about 5 hours total with waking up here and there.
  • Hopefully no Shannon this morning means she's sleeping!

I tested out some yoga dvds this morning to find a gentle one for a friend with back problems. I too have some hip/back issues but nothing like my friend. I cannot tell you how calm and peaceful I feel right now. I love yoga when I do it. I just never do more than a few downward dogs and other stretches to help my back every day. Never take the time for breathing, calming full body yoga. I'm fortunate to have many wonderful yoga dvds. Love Rodney Yee! New resolution - some real yoga every day. Should also help with appetite.

Carol Sue - You know a lot about your heart health issues and you are very observant. Please don't wait if you feel you might need medical attention. Sounds like you are doing everything you can to help yourself.

    Later gators!
  • Kris, I have never done yoga. It wasn't in vogue when I was younger, and now if I got into some of those positions I would need a crane to get me back out of them! LOL I have heard it is very calming.

Believe me, I didn't learn about my health issues from medical professions. They tell you "You have such and such, take this pill." I always want to know WHY I have it, what the pill will do, and what other options are available to treat it. I do a lot of research online, while at the same time realizing that not all of what you read on the internet is good information.
My mother had high blood pressure. The doctor gave her blood pressure meds. She took them, they made her sick, she quit taking them. End of story. Never went back to the doctor. I realize now that she might have lived longer if she took better care of herself.
  • The benedryl worked and I slept, thank God! I am very sensitive to stuff like that which is why I know to take 1....2 will knock me out til the afternoon. I still had to get up with my daughter twice but thankfully neither of those wakings took long and she finally slept til her usual time of 7:30 (instead of 6-6:30) so I probably got 8 hrs of sleep at least....that's double and triple what I've been getting this week so I'm happy. I will try to get to bed early again tonight.

FBS was 117 today, a slight improvement. I ate a biscuit today at bojangles. I haven't had a biscuit in a long time. I was really hungry. My stomach started hurting after I ate it though. I was in a bad mood bc of hubby and probably wasn't the best time for me to make food decisions. Oh well.... We are heading out to pick strawberries today. Hope everyone has a good day!

P.S. Rennie, come out come out!
  • Shannon Glad the Benadryl did the trick. In fact, I'm much like you in the fact that I can't take but 1 as 2 makes me groggy most of the next day. I had forgotten about using them because I don't take any meds I don't have to take. I don't like sleeping pills. Doc had told me to take Melatonin, but they got to where I had to take more and they left me so wiped out the next day that I stopped taking them. The 1 Benadryl works nicely.

Carol Sue Your numbers were really good without the Glimepride. I think it is good to eat only when hungry so that's probably why it didn't hurt the fbs for you to eat something in the night. We are so much a like. I too don't like take any meds if I can do the same thing with food or suppliments. My DH had a heart condition that the doctor's couldn't fix without surgery. Because we had only medicare no one wanted to help him. His daughter and I researched and I put him on a regimen that I found that a cardiac specialist used to help his heart patients. We went to see that doctor and he would not take my hubby as a patient. I asked him if the suppliments he used would help my husband and he said "I don't think it will help, but it won't hurt". A few yrs ago when DH had to have prostate surgery to remove a cancer the surgeon sent him to his cardiologist for approval for surgery. The doctor came in and said "I know you had this heart problem because I can see it in the records, but all I can tell you now is that it is gone. I can't fine it any more". And he approved the surgery. DH has had other problems but with medication and suppliments even approved by his doctors and some prescribed by doctors... he is doing so much better. So doctor's don't know everything but I am so thankful for those who are interested enough to at least try and are willing to work with us. Our primary just recently told us that he is amazed at how DH has improved.

I got hungry last night just a little bit before I went to bed. I guess I should have just gone to bed like I do a lot of times to keep from eating, but I decided to experiment with the South Beach protein snack bar I bought to see how my body responds to it. It doesn't mention sugar alcohol so I wasn't sure if sugar was real sugar or what. It didn't affect me like the sugar alcohol so I'm not sure what it is, but something in it gave me indigestion. So I will use them sparingly or give them to DH DIL when we go to see them. It didn't help my fbs either as it was 141 this morning, but the nice thing that I'm down .2 lbs. I never thought I would be so happy to see the movements down of .2 at a time, but just to know that the scale is moving downward is truly a blessing to me.

    Kris and Rennie Hi

Well, I've put off making lunch as long as I can now. The guys are getting hungry so I'll catch y'all later.
  • Shannon, I am so glad the Benedryl helped you! I might try it tonight. What I have isn't real Benedryl, it's the store brand from Dollar General.

Guess what I bought today? A Veggetti! It was an impulse buy at WalMart. I went in for some other things I needed and I always look through the As Seen OnTV items. It was either $14.99 or $16.99, I don't remember. I guess I will try it with zucchini. It might get me to like zucchini other than zucchini cake or zucchini fries.

I had another good on plan day today. I think yesterday would have been better if I had eaten more vegetables, so I think I will eat some this evening, just not right before bedtime. I don't want to wake up hungry again tonight.

I'm already concerned about tomorrow. I really don't like Mother's Day. My step-children come to see me and bring me a card and a hanging basket. It's nice of them to do that because I am not their birth mother and she has passed away. I make something small for lunch. Tomorrow it is going to be Sloppy Joe's and a pasta/veggie salad. I'm also going to make a recipe my step daughter gave me called Corn Salsa. It's a can of corn, can of black beans, chopped peppers, chopped onion, vinegar and sugar. You serve it with tortilla chips. I know I will be tempted to eat a sandwich and some pasta salad, even though I don't want to. Maybe if I eat a big breakfast I will be able to pass on the lunch.

I hope they realize that their Dad doesn't feel well and they don't stay too long. He would never tell them he didn't feel good, he would just sit here and suffer. He is getting a little bit better, gradually, but he still has pain and probably will have that for a while. I feel so bad for him. It's really not like him to be laying around. We don't even make the bed anymore because he doesn't stay out of it more than a couple hours.

I'm glad your DH got things taken care of and is doing so well. I'm wondering if doctors will still be able to refuse to treat people now that this new Insurance system is started. We never had that problem, but my SIL did. She had everything wrong with her. She eventually passed away.

I will probably be back on here tomorrow, but if not, I hope everyone has a good Mother's Day.
  • I just HAD to stop in this morning to change my ticker! Back down to 194 this morning. I will be in the 180s before I know it!!

FBS was 121. I don't know if it was because I ate some vegetables in the evening or when I was making the pasta salad I tasted a couple of the rotini to be sure it was cooked enough. After I made it I didn't think it was going to be enough so I cooked some more pasta. Had to check twice! Or maybe I caught what Rennie has......FBG goes up, when weight goes down!
  • Yea Carol Sue! I had to rush here to change my ticker too! Felt a bit crazy until I saw I wasn't the only one!

155.8 but I'm only changing my ticker from 157 to 156. I'm sure I'll bounce back up a bit during the week. Especially since I had a very low carb day yesterday and I'm sure some of this is water weight. But 155!!!! I haven't been this low in 20 years. (I am a short person.) FBS was not as low as I thought it would be at 119. Relatively speaking though, it's such an improvement over the all time high of 204 a week ago after my pizza binge!

    Happy Mothers' Day!
