Aughhhh ... well I messed up last night ... I had made a salad for dinner and put on a nice greek dressing ... took a fork full with the thought of all that greeky goodness only to find that the dressing had gone bad!!!!! Well that set my tummy off for a good 3 hours =( At 12 I checked my BSL and I was at 3.8!!!! So what does the first timer do .. run to the kitchen and made myself a sandwich WITH white bread .. go figure lol at midnight none the less =) I am still paying for that choice. I guess panic isnt a good response because really 3.8 might be low but not hard to raise to an appropriate level .. or so Im told =) I just remember my dad's levels dipping so low he seemed almost drunk and actually wet his pants!! This morning I feel like crap .. I can still feel that ball of white bread rolling around in my tummy .. and even though my levels are good Im so damn tired.
I tried coffee with sweetener in it yesterday and it wasnt all that bad =) Are there any types of sweeteners that you guys prefer? I tried stevia and found it tasted far too sweet and had a LONG after taste. Well today will be more house work than anything .. I have two meetings this morning and then another in the afternoon .. I will get to curves in the early evening as I dont want to miss that .. Im feeling a bit more stiff but its well worth it =) Ruth in regards to washing the clothing with the smoke smell .. I wonder if some of the pet cleaning solutions might help .. I use petzyme even in stinky work clothing and it really helps. It needs to presoak for about 10 mins before going through the cycle |
Peatpod, I know what you mean about white bread. I had a meatball sandwich at the Prescott hotel in Ottawa in 1993 and I swear it's still there in my stomach. I find a glass of skim milk works well for very low BGL - mine is sometimes that low or lower in the morning.
Vinegar seems to have worked on the clothes problem but we'll use the pet stuff if the smell comes back. |
HI RUTH ~ hope you didn't lose any stuff in your flood; we lost a few books and things from a flood in our shed last year; so DH and our DLL raised the floor up using sand, plus slats and some old plywood that we had. Now our stuff is protected; and we brought all our Christimas decos in to the house. I worked in a place once that had the same problem as you and they built shelves off the floor (the bottom shelf being at least 1-2 feet off the floor). They had a pump too, but as you know, sometimes they don't work when they are supposed too.
I think that I am doing well with the plan I am on, so I am going to continue on the way I am going. I know that some people want me to starve the weight off, like yesterday; but I already know from years of experience, that I will put it right back on, if I do. I want to be healthy for the long-term this time; and so far, so good. I am deliberately losing it slower this time; becuz I believe it will stay off longer that way ... PEA ~ gotta watch that salad dressing; I also have to watch the BEST BEFORE DATES when buying it too. When my stomach is upset, I like to have either some tea or chicken noodle cupasoup; and milk does help too. FATMAD ~ yes, RUTH may be right on about the salt holding you back; so when I have nuts now, I buy the non-salted ones from the baking section, and I am careful to count them out as well. Maybe you could give us a sample menu of one day, so we can take a look at it and make some suggestions how you can make some improvements. Just hopped out of the shower and decided to come on here while my hair is drying; doing catch up on my mail and stuff too. Having a good day so far -- it snowed for awhile early in the AM, but we had gorgeous :sunny: for most of the day; and then it snowed again for a few minutes. The temps went down to -20C last night but the sun warmed it up again for us today. Hope you all have a great evening ... Rosebud :flow1: |
2BHealthy- -15? I'm freezing just thinking about it!
Fatmad- wow, you got a lot of exercise size in, but in a fun way! wtg! Peat- how is curves? I've been thinking about it but haven't been at all impressed from stories I've heard. My husband has mentioned us joining a gym together but so far, nothing but home exercise/walking for us. Well, today I managed about an hour of walking at a very slow pace. I have been very tired today. A very unusual tiredness where I could barely stay awake. After walking, I showered and napped for a long time. I'm cooking dinner right now and waiting for AI to come on. |
How much posting do I have to do before I can add a weight ticker?
|
Well my meetings are over .. dinner is just ending and then we are off to Curves. Timoba .. I find Curves to be right up my ally right now. They also have a free weight management program that I think I will check out. I have noticed that a lot of the women there are over weight or much older so I feel comfortable sweating and panting away and occasionally flashing a belly roll =) You can go at your own rate if you go when its slow or until you build up your cardio level. So for me .. Im enjoying it and the women are really friendly and helpful. They weigh and measure you when you first sign up and then again later on. I dont know about you but I need to be accountable to someone when I first start trying to lose weight so knowing that someone will be weighing me every so often kinda keeps me on the straight and narrow =) As for the ticker .. 20 days and I think 20 or more posts to get it .. Im counting down the days too. I wish it would tell you your start date and mini goals too. I for one am curious how fast / slow other people are losing weight. But then again Im just snoopy =)
Ruth Im with you on the WLS!! I know several people that have had it done and one has lost and gained most of her weight back .. several have come alcoholics because its so easy to get drunk following the surgery and become depressed with the vomiting and replace the emotional over eating with alcohol. Its sad when you think about it. I realize there are many other people who do well and don't have the same issues but to me my health is more important. So Im glad you got a new doc!!! I want a new doc =( lol I want a "fat friendly" doctor =) My neighbour came over the other day and brought a Canadian Diabetes association Choice Menu book for me. While looking though it I thought to myself .. OMG thats a lot of food in one day. Have any of you followed their menus?? It would seem that its so much that I would never lose weight. Any opinions?? |
TIMOBA ~ you have to do 20 posts (you already have enuff), but you also have to have been a member here for 20 days ... 20 days from the day you registered on this site ... then you can have a ticker!
PEA ~ your register date should be in your profile somewhere -- Ruth knows where, don't you Ruth? ;) I still have that doctor and I'm trying to ignore him ... I know a handful of people who had WLS too -- not good news at all ... don't get me started now! |
good afternoon all. i'm running way behind today. i managed to walk abt 10 minutes this morning before my legs started hurting really bad. my fbs for this morning was 129. i have to finish a few more things but will check back in soon. have a good afternoon.
|
Wish I could say my FBS has been more under control...woke up yesterday and it was actually @ 350.... how does that happen. Its time for medication adjustment I think... Can't seem to get it under even 200 these days.
This is my first post in this thread...guess I didn't start off very well by my venting. I just am looking for a little help and guidance along the way!!! |
finally a scale shift
My weight finally went down a bit, am 182 now. You all must be right about the salt keeping some water on me. I didn't think it was that much, but I didn't magically lose 2 pounds from Monday to thursday just with sensible eating!
Timoba, are you on insulin or just meds? Most recommend upping the dose up lente insulin at bedtime by five units until you are back to normal fasting sugars. I didn't exercise again yesterday, the cold has been getting to me, and had a long work day followed by busy evening stuff. Am getting on the treadmill in a few minutes tho, since I am home during the day today. good news is that after the rain washed away most of the snow, we got lots of fresh snow so will go skiing tomorrow morning. I have 4 weeks off work starting monday, and i plan to up the exercise and watch the diet carefully. For me, the holiday helps since I can have regular hours, and no sleep deprivation giving me reason or excuse not to exercise. |
Timoba, you registered on January 24th so you have a ways to go. You find the information by clicking on your own name beside a post and then on "View Profile".
Chellbell, tell us more about yourself. And we can gripe all we want in here! I would definitely check with the doctor before adjusting my medication. Fatmad, that sounds like an excellent way to spend your four weeks - a sort of do-it-yourself Hilton Head and not as pricey! Bopping along with the usual visitors, dogs and quilting projects here. Tonight I will have to be very strong as I have a Fair Board meeting and just know someone will bring along butter tarts! I will resist because I know this person can't cook with a rat's a$$ and they will not be homemade. |
chelbell- i hope you get in under control soon. the highest i've been so far was 196.
fatmad- i am on meds, metformin only. they have me on 500 mg's right now. i have another appt tuesday and i'm thinking they may up the dose then. i've been doing finger sticks for 3 1/2 weeks now and have only had 3-5 fbs's lower than 130. i remember the dr saying she wanted it lower than 130 so we'll see what she say. i'm waiting on my husband to get in from work so we can go walking. they have a duck pond near by that they boys just love to feed while we get in some exercise. i hope my poor legs hold out. |
TIMOBA ~ I started out at 500 mg's also; then he upped it to 750, then 1000 ... after some time and things looked good again, I was able to bring it back down again. So your doctor may up it next time you see her.
CHELBELL ~ welcome to this thread ... my uncle had levels like that but they (the doctor) said it was becuz he was sick. Some people eat a lot of sweets and starchy carbs every day; and I just happen to know that he loves the sweets and nachos and something else very carby ... ;) Some people really struggle with getting their BSL's down; it is a challenge for all of us. Your doctor may be able to help you figure out why you are having such high readings. Have you seen a dietician for a menu plan? FATMAD ~ there you go, it was just a matter of getting the water out and time ... the weight had to come down eventually. Congrats to you ... we had -20 C here today; the cold is really getting to me too, I just hate going out when it's this cold, so I am doing stuff indoors instead right now. I walked around the house as fast as I could doing my chores today to rev up things up a bit ... RUTH ~ my landlord makes homemade butter tarts each Christmas; I put them in the freezer and have one as my afternoon snack but stretch them far apart. Thank goodness, she only sends over four, and I only have them once a year ... or I'd be in big trouble! HI PEA ... have a great Friday everyone ... Rosebud :flow1: |
Rosebud- thanks for the info. that really give me something to look forward to. i see others with fbs's under 100 and was wondering why mine was usually between 130-140 ish. i'm sure she'll up it.
I'm waiting to see what the weather is like. It's been in the 60's but dipped abit yesterday. If its not too cold, I'm planning to walk the kids to school and get in a bit of exercise. |
Not going to adjusting my own medications... but I do have a doctors appt scheduled in the next couple weeks.
A little more about me... I am a 36 yrs old. I just got married in October to a wonderful, supportive fella. Problem is he does everything to make me happy and at times he knows something chocolate and ooey...gooey does that for me. Due to my health issues now he has to stop doing that as often and we have discussed it. He also has some weight to lose so we are hoping this year we can do it together. |
HI THERE ~ boy, we had the coldest night yet -27C (or worse) when we woke up this AM; but thank goodness, the :sunny: came out strong for us today and warmed things up to about -10C (maybe) but now that it is in the western skies, it has dropped back down to -17C ... so we are probably in for another cold one.
DH couldn't get the car going at first; told him to bring the battery in the house and let it warm up. He will then put it on a charge for the next time we go out, but we are saving up for a new one and hope that helps, but we don't have a garage to put our car in so that makes a difference too. CHELBELL ~ at first, we have to make some changes slowly, and over time, things will get better. We all have to make those adjustments; looking for healthier snacks and treats. When we have those special ones, we try to have only one at a time; and I try to save up some calories for them by skimming off 50 here and there ... it does get easier ... Tonight we are having hamburgers for dinner; I'm having a homemade beef one with a salad ... one of our favorite things for Friday nights (beside pizza which we had last week) ... we had fish last night. I only had one day that I was really hungry at night so I had bread with peanut butter. Over the week things have worked out well and I am pleased with how this week went food-wise. Have a wonderful weekend; and stay warm ... Rosebud :flow1: |
Ruth- thanks for the info on posting. Until my ticker can be added I'll just update as I lose.
Rosebud- jesus, -27 ?! i thought we had it bad when our temp dipped to the 20's! |
Not Sick Anymore, Yippee!!!
Howdy, all. I've been absent of late, but was lurking nonetheless. As some of you already know, for the past week I was on antibiotics and recovering from a nasty cold. Well, I just finished my prescription today and I feel right as rain again. :carrot: I've managed to maintain my weight and look forward to easing back into my exercise routine starting tomorrow. Since being sick (total of 3 weeks), my morning readings have been between 100-105 (fasting). This is somewhat elevated from my normal morning readings in the 80's. My doc said it is most likely due to my body fighting an infection and not to worry about it. I go in for a blood test on Monday and will meet with my dietitian the following Friday to review the results. For the last month, I have also been working on improving my cholesterol. To that end, I have limited my meat options to fish and poultry. It snowed yesterday, but it's nice and sunny in the upper 40s F. Had to break out the shorts today. :beach: This weekend promises to be even warmer.
Timoba - Walking is such great exercise. When I first started exercising, all I did was take daily walks in the parks. It got to the point where I could out walk my dogs. :D When the weather permits, I still take my dogs for walks, but only for a mile or two since that's all they can handle. Rosebud - Whoa! -27 C, now that's cold. :yikes: Hamburgers sound great. If my cholesterol has improved, I plan on celebrating with a nice lean cut of red meat. Chelbell95 - One of my aunts had really high readings like yours until we worked with her endo on adjusting her meds. Now she normally tests in the upper 100's and occasionally in the lower 200's. She's still a work in progress, but is improving. It's good to hear that your hubby is willing to be your buddy along your journey for a healthier you. That kind of support is invaluable. Ruth - Quote:
Fatmad - Enjoy your time off. I hope to get back to skiing and snowboarding next winter. I'm still working on getting my legs into better shape. I've got really weak ankles and a bad right knee. Peatpod - Glad to hear that you are happy with Curves. It's so important to find a place that makes a person feel comfortable when exercising. Well, I hope everyone has a great weekend. Happy Friday!!! |
Oh my, yes -- bless the Lord -- it is very cold up here right now! It kinda surprised us becuz it was above 0+ just a day or 2 before that; when the temps plummet here, they plummet ... but I do hope they come back up a bit very soon ... as we had to stoke up the furnace again tonight ... :brr:
MR. Z -- glad to hear that you are feeling so much better this week and dropped by tonight. I often eat chicken burgers instead of the beef, but can't get any of my favorites here right now for some unknown reason? :?: Someone said something about a company buy-out; oh dear, hope that doesn't mean we won't be able to get them anymore. They had almost half the calories and fat. I love chicken myself and am eating a lot more of that too; but every now and then, I do like a nice steak too ... Have a great weekend folks ... |
 I'm way over-booked today but will be back later. Need to get "it" together right now and go to a breakfast meeting. Darn dogs slept in and didn't wake me this morning of all mornings.

hard to watch the diet
have been working long and late hours the last couple of days, and really having trouble eating right. I need to get good at packing appropriate food for these times. sometimes it seems like the choice is eating something not good, (high simple carbs/fat) or not eating. was taking atkins bars, but ran out after a while.
the combination of keeping blood sugars stable and losing weight sure isn't easy. Its very cold here too, about - 20 c this morning. will get the skis out this afternoon and go on the trail with the dog and my husband. Have to keep up the exercise, I think it will help to keep my sugars stable better than my eating habits anyhow. have a good weekend everyone and watch out for butter tarts |
Fasting Numbers Dropping
Slept in this morning and woke up to a reading of 90. Not much planned for today. I'm going to put new seat covers in the SUV and truck, workout, and possibly see a movie with my sister. I'm back on diet starting today.
Stay warm everyone. Oh, I've never heard of butter tarts before and googled it. Truly a decadent treat. :T |
 HI FOLKS ~ well, the temps were much better today; the thermometor says it was -10C but my fingies froze within seconds of taking my mittens off; so it's a very dry, frosty cold we have here right now. That beautiful :sunny: came out for us today and helped to warm it up, but maybe that's deceptive, and it really isn't as warm as we think.
So we did get to the store today, and I found some BLUE MENU burgers that only have 7 grams of fat and 140 calories and are 3.5 oz each. That was lower than the new chicken and turkey ones I found today. The turkey ones had 220 calories in them and the chicken ones had 200 cals each; but they were twice the price too ... ho hum ... So I am going to try these low-cal beef ones and see how they are for now. Tonight I had cabbage rolls for dinner + a romaine salad beforehand to fill me up as I missed my afternoon snack. I found some of my favorite lemon sf/lf yogurt today and it was on sale; managed to get the last multi-pack too ... phew! We have limited access with only one grocery and one bargain department store here in our small town. So I got some walking in today; and felt pretty good since I hadn't been in over a week as I was also recoverying from a flu, etc. MR.Z ~ I just read your post: you never heard of or had a butter tart before??? Holy cow ... you must lead one sheltered life, or are you pulling our legs? The homemade ones are of superior quality and the store ones can't compare. My mother taught me to make these when I was in my teens; they are too good! My DLLady makes them with nuts and chocolate chips too; she makes a mix of them ... eeks! You can only eat one -- that's a butter tart rule! Cuz they send your BSL's thru the roof! FATMAD ~ we're gonna have to get a hold of the butter tart police very soon! Boy, you are having really cold temps way down there ... wow -- worse than us today, and we are in the frozen north! Have a great night all ... Rosebud :flow1: |
Hey everyone .. glad to hear that everyone is doing fairly well ... I have been having difficulty making the right choices this week .. it never helps when hubby and foster son make cake =) Its funny cuz just the smell of sugar makes me crave my coffee =) I really do need to do have a diet plan laid out for me. I can resist the cake / cookies / butter tarts etc .. but coffee without sugar is killing me. I am pretty proud of the fact that Im down to 2 or 3 cups a week compaired to my 12 or more a day. I think thats where my weight loss is coming from. I missed Curves again today .. I seem to loose track of time when Im puttering around in the greenhouse .. that in and of itself is truely a workout. I find after 5 hours there my body is more sore than after the workouts at Curves =) But its a good sore.
It feels like DH has been really trying to sabotage my weight loss and I wont let him do that to me!! NFW!! I can do that all by myself lol How does one deal with a unsupportive spouse?? Its nice to see that everyone here is so supportive =) I have noticed may of you count calories .. thus far I have been really watching the carbs and I know I am not eating enough of the good stuff is there a previous thread that gives some examples of your daily meal plans?? Especially the grab and go type meals that I can take to the greenhouse with me. |
Good morning.
Mr. Z, butter tarts are the very devil and should be banned like absinthe! However, they are a rural Ontario specialty and that you should experience once in your life. Mad, we are darned cold here too but at least the sun was shining yesterday. It was Wolf Moon last night but my two doggies didn't want to stay out long to join their ancestors. They were cozy and warm all night as the woodstove held overnight. Thanks for the heads up on Blue Menu, Rosebud. I will be in Brockville today for my course and may get a chance to pop into the Superstore to pick some up. Pea, I can't give you hints on how to deal with a DH who is being a jerk as mine was very supportive. However, you will find lots of support from us here. Grab and go meals are a bit tricky. I am on course all day today with a 15 minute lunch break and plan to take along: 6 stoned wheat crackers, 3 Lite Laughing Cow wedges, celery and carrot sticks, grapes and a carton of skim milk....boring but it will keep the BGL stable. Better start getting organized now. Have a good day. This thread is getting long. I think I'll start a February Keep In Touch tomorrow and include a link back to this thread which will be closed. |
HI FOLKS ~ I was here last night and tried to post a sample calorie-based menu for PEA, but some spam kept interfering. Every time I would press post, this NS ad would try to take over my page; hence, my security programs then went to battle and well, long story short ... I said adieu for the night, I got better things to do than watch that all night ...
So I will post that in at the start of the February thread, so it won't get lost in lala land ... I did save it and have been saving all my posts before pressing that magic button these days, becuz of all the glitches lately. Better safe than sorry ... :D Just had a quiet day at home resting my legs; they felt OK while I was walking yesterday, but this AM they were sore and felt like I had just ran a marathon or something close to it. As the day progresses, they are getting a bit better. Will do some more xtra walking this week putting a rest day in between to give myself a break. Hope you all have a lovely Sunday evening ... Rosebud :flow1: |
chest cold
sore my fairly minor cold is going to my chest and breathing is getting a bit hard, so I will be careful about exercise outside for the next few days. Am also going to see my folks and do some care for them for a couple of days so I will be stressed a bit. Mum's dementia is quite bad and she is abusive with it, so I must use all my patience. Dad needs the break with me there. I can take the focus off him for a bit. I am sure the stress of caring for them has helped to push me over into diabetes. Its still my own fault for not keeping fit during this difficult time. I need to learn to use exercise and meditation to deal with stress instead of seeking comfort foods.
So, plan for getting well from the chest cold and work on diet and exercise, get into good habits this month. I will be reporting regularly on my progress on the new February keep in touch thread. I really enjoy reading everyone's posts. |
