Testing Restaurant Food for Sugar/Starch Content
This was in my e:mail in-box this morning and I thought you might like to have a read . . . :D . . . It's been a very long time since we Diabetics needed to test our urine to detect high blood sugar levels, but it's nice to know that those little dip sticks still have a use . . .
"Want to make sure that Diet Coke is actually diet? Use Clinistix or Diastix urine glucose test strips to test. Just take a small amount of food or drink in your mouth and mix it with your saliva, then spit out a small amount on the test strip. A change in color indicates the presence of sugar or starch. Don’t just dip the test strip into the food or drink; saliva is essential to the reaction because it contains an enzyme that releases glucose." |
