Fasting Blood Sugar

I thought that it would be fun { if I am not being to nosey } but can we all share our FASTING BLOOD SUGAR here & then if we see each other's maybe we can offer some helps ? If this is a BAD IDEA feel free to DELETE the thread !!

meowee 12-01-2007 08:39 PM

Definitely not a bad idea . . . but one of the things we tend to share in the regular daily chat thread . . . but I'll leave this here and see if the idea catches on.

As mentioned in that chat thread, mine has been dreadful in the morning lately and was 8.1 (146) when I got up this morning. Yuck. Really beginning to think I'm still going hypo in the middle of the night even though I no longer have the insulin shots to contend with. :dunno:

MAMA BEAR 12-01-2007 08:44 PM

mine was ... 111 this morning !!! See you soon & have a blessed night Linda !!

meowee 12-02-2007 05:47 AM

Well . . . I've been up since 4 am . . . and think I've unravelled the mystery . . . at 4:15 this morning my BGL was 4.6 (83). Obviously nothing wrong with that, but if I'd gone back to bed and slept for another 3 hours, I bet it would have bottomed out and then been high again (I know, just the liver doing it's job too well as usual ).

So now my day is all out of balance -- it's only 6:45 and I've already had breakfast. Anyway . . . guess I'll go back to bed for a bit.

MAMA BEAR 12-02-2007 06:50 AM

6:45 am ... 129

Well I think that the reason I am up a bit is because I got up around 1am and grab some peanut butter instead of a drink of water ... so it's ok I guess so I will be back later today !!

... for you Linda good reading for you !!

MAMA BEAR 12-03-2007 05:51 AM

:carrot::carrot: ... 6 am - 96 for me

lostchick 12-03-2007 09:31 AM

I haven't seen above 88 for a long time. However I do get up at 4:00am and a few hours later, I feel horrible.

Meowee I'm always out of balance, I don't have the same work scheudule 2 days in row. Tends to mess up timing of snacks and meals

meowee 12-03-2007 05:06 PM

Spent the day on the go -- running around trying to catch up with some errands while we have this little lull between blizzards.

Slept in until eight and saw a 6.8 (122). Forgot to stop for lunch until 3 PM and by then I know I had a rebound from a hypo and ended up at 8.9 (160) -- my own stupid fault. :dizzy:

Hopefully tomorrow will be better . . . ;)

MAMA BEAR 12-04-2007 06:07 AM

5:30 am ... 97 :carrot::carrot::carrot:

Bellaloki 12-04-2007 07:46 AM

My fasting BG is always 120-125. I'm on Metformin, 500mg 2 x daily. I've tried late snacks but that seems to have no effect. I've been wondering if increasing my Metformin to 3 x daily would help that, but I haven't had a chance to ask my doc yet.

Any thoughts?

meowee 12-04-2007 02:55 PM

I don't know . . . I've got a similar problem . . . used to be quite low in the mornings, sometimes much too low, but since I stopped shooting insulin, I seem to have completely turned around and I'm higher in the am and then taper off toward evening. Think I'm still going a little hypo and then rebounding but not with the drastic sweeping bounces I used to take.

I was 6.8 (122) this morning -- haven't checked recently, but I'd be willing to bet I'll be in the low 5's (below 100) before bedtime again.

MAMA BEAR 12-04-2007 06:07 PM

idea for those NIGHT TIME MUNCHIES ... MIRCOWAVE POPCORN ... I have some from time to time and it helps me !!

meowee 12-05-2007 07:51 AM

Love microwave popcorn . . . those 100 calorie bags are great.

BGL this morning was a wonderful 4.9 (88). It was 11 (198) when I finally went to bed last night. Think that might be the secret. Either that or I hve to set the alarm for early in the morning to get a good BGL reading -- kind of nuts to hve to do that when you are an old retired type like me.

MAMA BEAR 12-05-2007 08:06 AM

:(:(:(:( ... LET IS SNOW ... SNOW !! We got about 4 inches of the fresh stuff so I will have to wait and see if I get out today to get my BLOOD WORK done. So, I do have a good reading at 5:15 am which was 98 for me !!

Linda ... You had a good one too. I will try and have some GOOD TIPS to share with you & the other ladies later today since I am OFF from school due to the DELAY so ... take care and see you soon !!

suddenly susan 12-10-2007 11:19 PM

Can high morning BSL be caused by going to low at night? My fasting used to go to low, then we lowered my insulin and it steadied off at normal, now I've had to increase my insulin again and it is STILL going to high in the mornings. Do late nite protiein snacks actually help sugar stay normal? Anybody here wake up during the nite to test? I'm at such a loss! (and pregnant...probably has something to do with it :P )

meowee 12-11-2007 09:43 AM

Susan . . . a middle of the night low is one of the most common reasons for an early morning high . . . I have them a lot. Used to blame it on the Insulin, but then I stopped using insulin and I'm still getting them. Yes, I often test in the wee hours if I have to get up to use the bathroom, for example. Trouble is, it often means I'm awake for hours afterwards.

I've been in the 6.3/6.4 range (113/115) the last two mornings in a row.

bluex 12-11-2007 11:37 PM

A low would affect it but a sugar dump should still not raise you that high. It still a sign that your body is used to high numbers and wants to try to get there... so it is indicative of not as good control.

I found that taking care of my post meal numbers, never 140 after one hour, helped my fasting sugar more than anything. But of course diabetes is so weird, it's different for everyone.

Do you guys ever check your post breakfast numbers, after 1 hour, after 2?

witchyonadiet 12-12-2007 03:43 PM

I don't check mine anymore - but my labwork shows 85 - 90.

MAMA BEAR 12-12-2007 04:01 PM

Mine was 131 this morning but I am fighting off a nasty cold too so maybe tomorrow will be better !! We will see what happens !!
