I finally quit taking Metformin after 3 years because I kept getting sick. The doctor kept telling me that it would get better, but it never did, so I quit.. It wasn't helping any of my symptoms either. I still had darker body hair, weight problems, and even had a bald spot for some time!! :(

I didn't have much luck with metformin either - for the first few months I was taking it I could barely do anything more than lay on the couch with a bucket next to me. After three months of this my doctor wanted to INCREASE my dosage to see if this would help with the symptoms (don't really see how it could...) and I ended up having to stop taking it in order be able to function and go to school.
If I'd had the slow release variety I might have been able to stick with it :( |
Wow . . . other than a little excess gassiness :o . . . Metformin has never bothered me . . . thank goodness for small mercies.

I was recently switched to Glumetza, which is an extended release of the Metformin. I was on 1500 a day for over a year and suffered horrible stomach problems, diarrhea, etc. Once I switched to the glumetza though, I have no problems whatsoever. I tried ActoMet for a while as well but still suffered some stomach upset.
Hope this helps!! Good luck. =) |
I had the same reaction to Metformin...constantly sick. My family doctor put me on the extended release tablets (850 mg each I think) twice a day, and I feel fabulous. I'd maybe give it a try. It did take me a few days to adjust to the new dosage, but things are great now.
