Hey y'all,

sorry I haven't been posting... I had my gallbladder removed Wednesday and stayed overnight at the hospital...of course the day of surgery, I was fasting... and when they took my level after surgery (before serving me lunch it was 140... it was also up some other times... but they didn't seem to spaz about it... never above the 140's....

how are you? How was your weekend?? Mine was quiet but that shouldn't surprise anyone... i spent time dozing and reading and working on a puzzle...but I did get out some!

My mom, sister and I went to a yard sale and then an estate sale yesterday... out for several hours... then I went with a friend driving through town for pictures of the old homes (She's getting ready for the pilgrimage art show) and then to walmart- did ok... I was tired at the end of the day but ok. Today I went to church and then lunch...boy... didn't realize it would hurt like it did to sing with the choir! should have sat it out... for lunch we went to chinese- but Theresa and I did well...didn't really enough to go! I was worn out when I got home- don't know if it was a combo with yesterday or what...but I've rested all afternoon and didn't go to church tonight... tomorrow I go back to work... pray that my energy holds during the day!

so... how are you doing??

Reba

Hi Gang . . . Happy Monday Morning . . .

We got another tiny dusting of snow overnight; but this morning the sun is starting to break through and it's supposed to stay around for a couple of days . . . I hope . . . I hope . . . because I definitely have a bunch of places to go and a lot of things to do over the next couple of days, since I'm having that first cataract surgery on Wednesday and don't know just how long I might be semi house-bound because of it. :^: Hopefully not more than a day or two.

Hi ROSEY . . . sounds like it was fun. You may have to check the library for that other book . . . I think it might be out of print, since Amazon doesn't have it listed at all.

Hi MISSI . . . Congratulations on that nice loss. Your BGL readings are heading in the right direction. Don't worry, it takes a little time for the meds to really do their job and every pound you lose will definitely help. Metformin makes me a little "gassy", but not nauseous. Be sure to take it with food, or at least a little milk.

Hi WALKING . . . We do have a couple of Type I's but they've been MIA for a bit and it is difficult for Type II's to relate to the really high, highs like your DH gets. Other than that, Type I and Type II are sort of like opposite sides to the same coin. We can definitely relate to the depressions and other psychological aspects. We all go through them . . . and they definitely have an impact on BGL control. I've been type II for almost 16 years, but have only been shooting insulin for about 5 of those, but between that and the constant testing, I know what it is like to feel like a human pin-cushion. We all know how down you can get when you have to be so different and how boring it is to always be monitoring everything you eat and everything you do . . . but that definitely beats the alternatives. I know when I started on insulin, it was tempting to just shoot in extra to make up for all the crap I wanted to eat. Obviously that gets you nowhere good in the end, but I can understand the feeling. My only suggestions are for you to keep on being supportive and encouraging and to do as much reading as you possible can on the topic. Drop in to visit anytime you need an understanding shoulder, girl. We are here for you.

Hi REBA . . . We've missed you girl. Wow, you have been extremely active for just having had surgery. Take it easy . . . at least a little bit. Actually those BGL readings were pretty good for having just had surgery . . . mine went higher than that the day I had the D & C. I don't expect anything too bad with the cataract surgeries, but can hardly wait to see what kind of impact the hysterectomy will have. :(

A big HELLO and a :grouphug: for everybody else . . . wherever you are and whatever you are doing . . . hope you are having fun.

Well, I'd better get going on the rest of my 'rounds' so I can get some other stuff done. Hope everybody has a great moving and shaking kind of day planned. See you all really soon . . . :carrot:

Reba, you must have had it done laproscopically since you're up and about so soon? Sounds like you don't let something like a gallbladder get you down. Pretty cool :D Oh, I can't wait to hit some yardsales, etc this summer.

Meowee, hoping your eye surgery goes well. Is it just laser work being done? As for the hysterectomy...if it's like my c-section was I think the mobility limitations will drive you nuts. Just make sure you do what you told Reba to do and take it east afterwards :)

So last night after my dinner of 7oz tilapia, 1 c of green beans and about 3/4 c of ww noodles covered in marg&parm, my bs was only 109. This morning it was 150 :(. I didn't get to do WATP because I was so tired I coudn't even keep my eyes open.

I did ok today until I came home for lunch and had jello after my spaghetti. If it had stopped there it wouldn't be so bad but I've had about 50oz of whole milk and two hot dogs on buns since I got home from work. Plus two white chocolate macadamia cookies. :( Looks like I might have to completely swear off any types of processed sugar if that little bit will lead to a binge. If I can stay on track the rest of this week, I might be able to get away with maintaining and not a gain. I don't even feel that good after drinking all that milk. Just overly full and BLAH.

Edited to add: I just entered everything into my Fitday, so I am accounting for it. This is something I never would have done before. I also threw the rest of the cookies outside, in the snow.

Good Morning . . .

Know how you can tell it's almost Spring in Nova Scotia? That's right . . . it's cold and it's snowing . . . Such fun!. . . and unfortunately I've still got places I have to go and things I have to do. :(

Hi MISSI . . . Good girl. The snow is a much better place for the junk food and recording the stuff you eat, good or bad, will help you get, and stay, on track.

BTW . . . this may be too much information for some of you . . . but here's a good site to tell you exactly what cataract surgery is and what it is not . . . there are even videos . . . http://www.cataractsurgery.com . . . Wish it could be done by laser, but it does require a real incision although it is just done under a local. :)

Hi JEANNE . . . Glad you had a good weekend  Sounds like you have some great stuff planned for Easter.

Hi ROSEY. . . Great that you were able to find the book. Hope you like it as much as I did. Wow that is a really nice honour for the whole family and your MIL in particular.

Hi GLEN . . . So, it was you who sent us this snow . . . . . . Knew it all along. ;)

Well, I had a very funny day yesterday . . . BGL wise . . . after a nice start at 4.6 before breakfast, I went down to 2.8 by 11:00 am (after a good brekkie, too) and then back up to 6.6 before dinner. -- on the US scale that's 83 - 50 - 119. Today, I started with a 5.9 (106). Wonder where it goes from here? Time will tell. Strange, because I really didn't do or eat anything out of the ordinary. Never mind . . . the body does only what it wants to do sometimes. :dizzy:

Anyway, better get moving so I can get everything finished up today. the sun is supposed to be coming out this afternoon . . . hope the forecast is right. Hope everybody has a great moving and shaking kind of day lined up. Keep on doing the good stuff and I'll see you all later . . . :carrot:

Meow -- I wanted to thank you for your response. I know type 1 and type 2 are different animals; I just thought maybe there were some 1's on here. I should probably try to find a message board on a diabetes forum for spouse's of Type 1's. I love that man beyond words, but it can be a challenge. It scares the mess out of me when I let it, which thankfully isn't too often. He has had it thirty years (we're close to 40) and currently has no complications. He has a great endo. But the endo has explained to me that once complications start with type 1's, they can domino quickly. I just want him to have the best maintenance possible, so I try to be as supportive as I can.

Thanks again for your thoughtful response.

Hi, all. Welcome to the newbies. It's raining here today. The weekend was rough. I had a bad day at work on Friday so i broke down and bought some wine and cheese (laughing cow light) and broke my program. My weigh-in last night showed only a lb lost. Then I went to Whole Foods and consoled myself with real food. Sigh. I don't think I'm going to make my goal. For some reason, I'm just not focused enough. Hope the rest of you are doing better.

meowee 03-20-2007 08:38 PM

Just to let you know I'm off to the hospital really early tomorrow so may not get here until quite late . . . if at all.

Jeanne . . . 7.0 on the International, including Canada, scale (everywhere except US) is equal to 126 on the US scale -- multiply Canadian by 18 to get US (and divide by 18 to go the other way) . . . when you come to A1C . . . your scale is the same as ours because A1C is a measurment of the percentage of glucose in the blood by volume over the past 90 days, and a % is a % wherever you are. Probably a lot more info than you really wanted. :D

See you gang. . . :carrot:
