Newbie needs support

I posted this in the introduction section before I had a chance to find this Diabetic Support Forum...

The scale said 210.8

Hello everyone,

My name is Michelle, I'm 37 and I weigh 210.8 according to my doctors scale. I see my doctor frequently as I am T2 diabetic, hypertensive and have high cholesterol, the diabetes and HBP controlled by meds, the cholesterol NOT controlled. My doctor had me taking Niacin, but todays number was 267. Eeeek. I have been diabetic since 2001, it's in my family, so I requested from my doctor a complete glucose intolerance test.

Today at my appointment, I just met with the MA, but she read me my results and said the doctor wants to talk to me about possible kidney problems (I had to pee in a cup when I had labs done). Boy, I wasn't expecting that. Guess THAT finally made me wake up. I NEED to get this weight under control. I have not been this heavy...FAT...in several years, recently gaining 10 lbs since the holidays.

I recently (2/07/07) started exercising for 1 hour daily, I'm on a roll since I have done 1 hour every day except last night, I only did 1/2 hour. But, after todays appt, I am stepping things up. Diet, exercise...I will NOT let this (insert explicitive here) get the best of me.

Sorry to ramble...there's a lot more about me...I'm not just a diabetic. I'm fun, young and want to meet lots and LOTS of people who are here to succeed!

Hi there! :welcome3: Boy there is nothing like medical fears for motivation is there? I got off my butt and really started walking when I was diagnosed with T2 diabetes almost a year ago. I was borderline/insulin resistant for years...and it was probably my own fault that I crossed over to full fledged diabetes. You have some similar problems that I deal with...hypertension, the T2, I am also hypothyroid. Losing is almost impossible for me, but I keep plugging away hoping to eventually find something that will work. To keep my sugars controlled I eat a low glycemic diet (Sugarbusters) and walk as much as possible. During the summer, I add to the walking water aerobics (we have a pool...love it!) which helps.

Come join us on the dieting with diabetes thread. That is the daily check in thread where most of the group posts most often. We will love to have you join us. The group is varied...all ages, lots of different interests, but everyone is nice and supportive. I hope you find all the encouragement and support you need to achieve your goals here!
