Meds and Metabolism

I'm not officially clinically depressed, but diagnosed Bipolar. I started my medication roller coaster years ago at a very low weight because I had quit eating. I weighed 119 at the time, and they put me on Zyprexa, Risperdal and an antidepressent (Celexa). The Zyprexa and Risperdal combined caused me to put on about 60 - 80 lb. overall, and I asked them to take me off it because I was concerned for my health and didn't feel good.

I was wondering if anyone knows how medications work to make you gain weight, because it's my understanding that they mess with your metabolism, make you hungrier and cause some water retention. In the case of metabolism, can that effect last longer than the time you're on the drug? What I mean is, once you get off the drug, will your metabolism still be lower? And thus, would you still be hungry and also gain more weight than an average person would with a healthy metabolism?

I recently was on Risperdal again, and it had the same effect. This is why I ask.

I DOOOO!!!! ... Well its all a question of NT (neurotransmitters) that give you that "clinical high" to make you feel happy or calm. Sertonin is the same NT which is found in most Depression medicines. The low levels of sertonin in the body cause the body to release insulin or cause feeling of hunger which is were craving may arise or hunger. Your receptors are having difficult time uptaking uptaking. Just research serotonin weight gain and you will recieve more insight on it. You can ask your doctor for Meridia or Adipex. However I do warn you these are quick fix pills you will almost definitely gain the weight back after you are off, plus a couple of pounds. Furthermore, doctors usually only prescribe this as short term goal, because of peoples dependancy. So for now just try exercising hard, I understand some days with your Complication you just dont have the interest or spirit to do so, however, exercise is only permanent helping. i hope i anwsered ur question
