New here and to depression meds

  • Hello
I am new to 3FC and new to taking depression meds. I am only on my 4th day of Lexapro. I think my depression is more from infertility than due to my weight since I've been big forever, but not depressed forever.
I look forward to getting to know you and sharing our struggles, and hopefully helping one another.

  • Hi Renee..I'm Lynn..welcome to the board. I'm sry about your infertility but I have a wonderful story for you...
Close friends of my husband's and myself got married in 95. After a year of marriage they started trying. After two years of trying, she had a huge fybroid removed and had lymes disease. After four years of trying she was doing shots, pills and was majorly depressed. They traveled, remodeled their house and acted like they didn't care but she was devastated. After 7 years of trying and going to every doctor imaginable, they tried invitro and she got pregnant on the second try. ten weeks into the pregnancy they couldn't get a heart beat, the fetus had died. She was beyond inconsolable. My heart ached for them. Two months later she concieved again and was carrying triplets, one of the babies a girl was too low in her uterus, she had to make the decsion to take that baby or the the preganancy might not go to term and she'd lose all three. She choose to take the lil girl with much regret.
In 2004 she gave birth naturally to two 6 pound boys.
I know you have despair and grief but know that science is on your side.
I wish you luck.. keep posting !!
  • Hey there Renee!

I'm also on Lexapro and it works well for me. I've struggled with infertility as well (have PCOS) and have done all the infertility treatments until I just decided to give up (after YEARS of trying). I'm lucky though to have an active part in my nephew's lives. Not the same by any stretch, but better than nothing.

Just wanted to welcome you here!
  • Welcome!

I used to be on Lexapro and I really think it worked pretty well for me. How is it going so far? I found that it in the beginning it made me feel a little bit sick to my tummy. I'm actually thinking about going back on it.

You'll really like it here. The ladies are wonderful to chat with and check in with everyday.

Hope to see you here again soon!

    ~Jess~
  • Thank you for your replies. I am doing fairly well on the lexapro. My stomache has been a little iffy today but who knows if its that? I had a little dizziness and a slight headache the first couple days. Nothing today.
Yes, science is on my side with infertility....God will make a way for us, whether it be our bio child or adopted or even just peace in our family of two.
    Hugs2all!

  • Renee,

I just wanted to let you know that God will provide what he deems is right for your life. I hope your depression becomes less of a hassle. I would also like you to know that I had a son in 2001 in 2002 I was diagnosed with PCOS. I didn't think I would have anymore children. We didn't ever really try because my depression had become so bad. I had always dreamed of having a large family. I talked with my pastor and got help thru meds. I prayed about it everyday. In May of 2005 I found out I was pregnant!! We had our second son on Jan 27th 2006!! Miracles do happen and God will provide!! Keep me posted on how you are doing!! I am here if you need a ear to talk to or just need someone to cheer you a bit!!

    Have a great day, Misty
  • Hi there,

I was just wondering if the doctors feel your infertility has anything to do with your weight?

My girlfriend was told that most of her infertility problems were due to her weight, messing up her hormones etc,

    Just a thought,

    God Bless you,

Have you thought of adopting? A child isn't always born from your stomach
a child can be born from your heart!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • My weight could be an issue with my IF according to me, but my doc says that it isn't, it is the hormone fluctuations due to PCOS. When I lose weight tho my cycles regulate tho. I rarely ovulate and when I have the eggs are of poor quality. I miscarried once in 16 yrs of marriage. That was the only pregnancy. God can make a way where there seems to be no way! We have considered adoption but right now we are drained financially due to the fertility treatments.
