Default New Medicine ~ Anyone take this before?

Hi everyone. Many already know my situation here. So I am hoping those who read this know the history a bit here and I don't have to re-type it. If not, read this: http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=82291.

Anyway I went to see my regular doctor today for more/different meds. I was on xanax and it was knocking me out cold within an hour of taking it. So my doctor put my on Effexor XR. I take it once a day at night. He said it will take a couple of weeks before I start to feel it working. But he said this will help with depression, anxiety, and panic attacks. He also gave me more xanax but only to take as needed.

I was shocked that my doctor jumped on the wagon and helped me with this! He was the one that said "mood swings" awhile ago! Maybe because I have been going to counseling that made a difference.

Anyway has anyone taken Effexor XR? And what were your pro's and con's with it? Did it help?

TIA!

yup lots of us take or have taken it. i found it worked only moderately for me but i didn't like the side effects and quit

have you been to remedyfind.com? you will find a lot of different people's opinions of meds. how it helped (or didn't) etc. it might be worth a peek

it has ratings from lots of people... is what i meant to say

I've never taken it but I am a pharmacy technician and I do know that there are lots of people who had high hopes with it...but then like sweet_pea stopped taking it because of the side effects. But it does depend on the person...so the only way one can really know for sure is to give it a try!

I have been on Effexor for approx. 4 years. I almost no side effects even when at the top dose. Unfortunately I am now coupling it with Remeron as my depression took a dive this winter, but it doesn't have anything to do with the meds - just my depressive cycles.

Good luck - I hope it is effective for you.

I think any medication will work for somebody, but they're all different. I've tried so many medications in the past few months and it took awhile before we got the right dosage and the right medications figured out. I hope you have good luck with it

my husband takes this and it works really, really well. He takes a pretty low dose and has practically no side effects.
