Fasting
Is juicy juice okay for a juice fast of 2wks?
|
Juice fast for 2 weeks, why?
Just be sure to have plenty of toilet paper on hand because your headed down hershey highway :lol3: |
That about sums up what a juice fast is good for  But it's not good for dieting. Juice fasts are a bad fad and should be avoided. You'll lose a lot of water and "solids", but as soon as you have your first real meal, your body will replace both. You'll be missing almost all of the nutrients your body needs, too. I personally wouldn't recommend a juice fast for 3 days, let alone 2 weeks.
If you do decide to follow something so extreme, please consult your doctor first. Kara, I noticed that you posted in another thread that you were upset about gaining so much weight during your pregnancy, and you were desperate to lose weight fast, and was considering fasting. I do hope you'll reconsider this, because this will not help you. Quick weight loss comes back just as quick, and usually bring friends with it ;) We've all been down that route before, and have learned the hard way that it never works. The best thing you can do for your health and weight is to take a more balanced approach. Go to the library and check out a good book on dieting. Or check our "Calorie Counters' forum for tips on losing weight the old fashioned way - by eating real foods, but watching portions and keeping track of your food intake. You probably need AT LEAST 1200 calories per day, maybe more. Add exercise to complete the routine, and you are on your way to your goal weight and it will stay off :) Good luck! |
I will be prepared for the Hershey Highway :) -- That is even better then .. getting rid of all that also :) .. and I've heard about you gaining the weight back just as easily as you did losing it by fasting but once I hit the weight I wanna be at by fasting, I will simply exercise like I should and eat healthy .. if someone REALLY wants to keep the weight off after the fasting period, it can be done .. :)
|
Two weeks is a very long time to just drink juice! What about vitiams and protien? I think you should really, think about a different approach. Maybe a set menu for the 2 weeks, if you have enough willpower and strenght to just drink juice for two weeks you should be able to eat the same thing everyday for two weeks. Maybe, 1 hard boiled egg and 1 piece of light dry toast for breakfast, a huge salad with FF salad dressing or oil and viniger for lunch, and Steamed veggies and a small piece of grilled chicken for dinner!! i hope you do it healthy!!!

No, actually, keeping weight off after fasting, especially fasting for more than a few days, is MUCH HARDER than if you lost it sensibly. First, as already mentioned, a lot of the "weight" you lose will be water and solid waste. As soon as you start eating again, even if you "eat healthy" the water will come back as your body replenishes its fuel stores, and the solid waste will return to its normal levels. So, your scale will jump back up in a few days on that account alone. Second, when you fast you send your body into panic mode. For one thing, it's not getting all of the types of fuel it needs, so it starts burning not only fat but muscle tissue to get everything it needs -- you start cannibalizing your own body. The loss of muscle AND the fast itself cause your metabolism to slow down. The less muscle you have, the fewer calories you need to sustain your weight. In addition, all the systems in your body slow down and try to get by on fewer calories. It gets super-efficient to provide all the functions necessary on as few calories as possible. So, when you are ready to start eating again, your body has learned to get by on very little, much less than if you had simply cut calories to a reasonable level. So, you might find you gain weight on a LOT fewer calories than before. And guess what? That muscle doesn't come back without a lot of work, and when the weight comes back, it's all fat. So, you might wind up at 135, but it will be a LARGER 135 than you were before, because you have more fat and less muscle, and the fat takes up more space than the muscle did.
By depriving your body of protein, fat, fiber and all of the other nutrients in a well-balance diet, you are basically damaging your body to a degree that's difficult to justify. Your resistance to infection is much lower, your energy levels will suffer tremendously, your hair and skin will become dry and brittle -- your hair may even fall out. Your organs will not get the nutrients they need to function properly, and you could even cause damage. All of these physiological effects of fasting and weight don't even take into consideration the psychological effects. Most people find it difficult if not impossible to sustain the fast for long enough to gain the desired effects, and even if they do, they find it difficult to eat in any type of restrained manner. Face it -- if you can't eat in a sensible way NOW, what makes you think you can do so after a fast, when every cell and hormone in your body is screaming at you to eat as much as possible? Your body not only wants to replace what it lost, but it wants to stock up in preparation for the next famine. Not only that, but if you are pre-disposed to obessessive-compulsive types of behaviors, you could be become hooked on the food deprivation mind games and develop a full-fledged eating disorder. Eating disorders ruin lives and even kill people. Is getting thin quickly more important than having the energy and physical and mental health to take care of your baby? |
EXCELLENT post funniegirl very well said :high: !! A juice fast is the easy way out and it doesn't work at all...
I also agree with funniegrrl, what about your baby if you are not healthy for a while, even only 2 week? Because you WILL be tired, lethargic, impatient with everyone including your baby who needs you more than ever. Now don't get me started if you are nursing your baby, where will the poor thing get it's nutrients... Please listen to us.... |
The "baby" is 14mons -- he eats the same kinds of food that everyone else does, sweety -- I never did breastfeed .. (well maybe for a couple days, but it didn't work out) .. so, he will be fine, thanks :)

It sounds like you have a very nasty attitude, and all we are doing is tring to give some advice, that is why you are at this website, right? If your not going to take the advice or even consider it, why did you start this fourm? Nothing can be that bad that you have to be nasty.
|
No attitude .. just thought that was kind of silly to think that I didn't have my little boy in mind when I was planning this ..
|
Gottobethin- I see you are from Missouri too  I am just a few miles out of Poplar Bluff Mo close to Quilin :D
On the fasting...I tend to take the opinions as the other ladies, I did do the South Beach Diet a month ago though and phase one was REALLY great as far as my weightloss went, It has a 14 day Phase one you might like, I know I did ;) Hope whatever you decide works well for you ...but please take care of yourself and be safe, there is only one you :grouphug: |
Just eat healthy and exercise is all we are telling you ... It may take longer but will be better for YOU in the long run because YOU take care of your child

GOT: I did a 14 day cleansing fast using lemon juice and maple syrup. I did lose well, like 16 pounds (but I have like 100 to lose!) and I felt great. Unfortunately, the weight all came back. I was hoping to keep it off, and have that jumpstart my losing, but it did not work out that way. Juicy Juice is not a good thing to pick for a juice fast. You need to juice your own fruits and vegetables to get the vitamins, minerals and enzymes that are touted as the benefits of juice fasting. The first few days are HE**, so be aware if you decide to do it, that you will need someone to run after your 14mo old for you, you will not feel like it. When I did it, all I could do for three or four days was sleep. As I said, I lost 16 pounds, and was pretty pleased about that, but after two weeks, I was back up to the original weight, eating very according to plan. That was a few months ago. I have since read a book called Mastering Leptin, that has really opened my eyes to why I have such a hard time losing weight, and how I damaged my metabolism when I was younger with the yo-yo dieting. Before you undertake a fast, I highly recommend you read that book.
I jumped in here, because I experienced what some of the ladies were telling you. A fast is not a good way to try and lose. You will lose more quickly and permanently on a protein fast, or fat fast, and a juice fast is most beneficial if you are being very careful about the quality of the juice you are ingesting. (ie use organic produce, and drink it straight from the juicer) I hope you all don't mind my jumping in.... |
Fasting puts your body in starvation mode... which if you read any diet book... is NOT good at all!! That is one good way to sabotage (sp?) your metabolism!!! And in the long run could make any weight loss very hard to succeed! Not only that but depending on many different health issues etc (even the health issues you may have and not yet know about, or may get at an older age etc) this could drag you down where you won't even be able to take care of yourself let alone your child. I personally feel that fasting is a bad idea and it could cause some serious illness's etc. If you want to lose weight the healthy way and keep it off I suggest you NOT do this!! You will be making your situation worse in the long run.
|
Also..... there is NOT any kind of quick and easy weight loss fix!!! No pills or anything will help you lose weight in a healthy lasting way! A healthy well balanced diet with exercise is how to successfully lose weight in a healthy way and keep it off. A healthy weight loss is about 2 pounds a week.
|
Not to be rude.... but didn't you (Got2bethin) ask this question in other boards you made? I recall reading discussions on this just a few days ago... and I beleive it was with you. I think you got the same responces too. The people here are just trying to help you.... and help you in a healthy way! There is tons of advice and help here... for many different weight loss plans... you can't go wrong here! Everyone seems to be saying the same things..... "fasting is not a good idea" and so on.... please take the advice and lose weight in a healthy way!! It is in your best interest. Again, not trying to be rude. I just remember this being posted in a couple of other places.

If you go on a juice fast for 2 weeks, not only will you most likely gain the weight back, but you will also lose MUSCLE MASS from your body. This is something that you do not want to lose. You want your weight loss to be mostly fat, and very little muscle lost. If you lose 10 pounds on a juice fast and it is mostly water and muscle mass-you are going to still be flabby-because the fat will stay. You still won't be happy with your body. If you lose slower and healthier by eating better and exercising from the start-you will lose more fat, and less muscle-so the flab will go, and the firm shapely muscle mass will be what stays on your body. I can sense your desperation to lose weight-but you have to think about whether you want to lose weight really quick and lose muscle-then have all the weight come back with more in a few months-or whether you want to do it the healthy way and lose slow with a good diet and exercise and KEEP IT OFF. What is the point of losing weight if you don't change your lifestyle to keep it off for life? Any sustained weight loss must be through a lifestyle change, and not a "diet". |
Okay, here it goes ...
I feel the need to fast because I have no motivation to exercise and whatnot -- to me, fasting is an easy way out (whether it truly is or not) I want to lay in bed and cry at night because I'm so disgusted with my body. I have never been this fat in my life and each time I'm in the shower or look in the mirror I can't believe what I see. I've considered fasting because I have heard many people say they have lost 30 - 40lbs in just a couple wks - 1 month - by fasting for that period of time. I understand the consequences as well -- I realize that it can't be super duper healthy .. and that not everyone who does it doesn't any horrible side effects. I understand all of this. It's just hard for me to listen to those who say it's the wrong thing to do because this weight it something I desperately want to lose .. and in a very short time. Once I reach my GW, I will then be happy and start to exercise regularly and eat healthy. I don't know if any of this made sense or not, but anyway .. |
no, it doesn't make any sense, but I DO understand (i think) because sometimes I feel that way too sometimes (self-disgust at my body)....
why WAIT to start eating healthy and exercise? why not start NOW? Of course you can do what you like, but The TRUTH is plain and simple, it doesn't work. You'll lose water, muscle, electrolytes...then the scale will stop moving after 3-4 days as your body hangs onto every ounce. By then you'll be so darned hungry that you'll be ready to chew on a table-leg...you'll be irritable, crabby, tired and how do you expect to deal with a 14 month old child you are responsible for? And JUICY JUICE? geeze, look at the sugar content....(sugar=fat) If you feel that you MUST fast, why not take an approach that will do less harm.... say 24 hours of liquids, vegetable juice, broth, herbal tea only, followed by light protein, yogurt, vegetables.... (this is just a suggestion, I don't advocate it) go to WebMD or other medical sites for ACCURATE information on what you will be doing to yourself. Your weight didn't accumulate overnight and it won't leave overnight or within 2 weeks....as much as we all want it to....I wish there were a way to lose 10 lbs. in 10 minutes too. good luck! |

You don't gain 30 or 50 pounds in a month, and you aren't going to lose it in a month. But, you CAN safely lose 10 pounds this month if you really stick with a low calorie eating plan of around 1200-1400 calories a day, and get in regular exercise. In a month, you can be a HEALTHIER 10 pounds lighter. In two months, you can be about 15 pounds lighter. In 3 months you can be around 20 pounds lighter. If you start now, that is 20 pounds by the holidays. In a healthful way. Hey-I went from 200 pounds down to about 150 after my first baby, and only a month or so into maintenance I got pregnant AGAIN. Talk about turning right back around and getting back on the fat train again. The second time I ended up at 211, and am working it off again. This time it is going slower-but-I am still working at it. Quote:
I really don't agree with the statement that you will be happy to eat healthy and exercise once you reach goal. It may not seem like it now, but maintenance is the HARDEST part of keeping off weight. Anyone can lose 10 pounds with a little work, but how many people keep that 10 pounds off for the rest of their lives? Healthy maintenance of your weight loss requires a lifestyle change. A lifestyle change that includes eating healthy and exercising for the REST of your life. |

You are killing yourself with this!!! I am sorry but I hear excuse after excuse. Let me tell you... if this was the good way to do... we would ALL be doing it! Who feels they don't look good? Who wants to exercise daily? Who would rather have cake instead of a salad? I bet we all answered those questions just as you would!!!! That is no excuse to kill ourselves!! Fasting will make you sick either physically or medically!!! And if it does not cause problems right away... it could later down the road!!! Fasting is NOT going to help you lose weight!!! You will gain it all back and then more!!!! If you did NOT want to except other people's advice why are you asking us for it?? Are you looking for attention? I don't mean to be rude but spear me already! EVERYONE has said the same thing!!! You refuse to hear/see the truth of the whole thing!! Why bother asking if you don't care what anyone says? From what I have seen, most people on these boards are pretty serious about losing weight! And they want to lose it the healthy way and keep it off. What your saying your going to do could be a fast way to your grave!!! I worry about your child... whom you might end up to sick to take proper care of!!!! And if your alone... what happens then! I don't even want to think of it because it will be sad! Again, I am not trying to be rude. However, I do mean to be blunt because this really seems like a child searching for attention. We are ALL here to support each other and lose weight and get healthy... and stay healthy!! Please join us in healthy weight loss instead of taking a huge risk of making your self sick or worse! |
I ask you this: If you have "no motivation" to eat right and exercise now, what makes you think you can keep up a fast, whether it's 2 weeks or 2 days? Second, if you have no motivation to eat right and exercise now, what makes you think you'll be able to do it when you come off of your fast?
You are very young, and I know it's hard to listen to logic and facts and truth when you just WANT something. But wishing won't make it so. You've heard over and over and over again that what you are thinking about doing WON'T WORK, and in fact will be counter-productive. What WILL work is making a committment to eat right and exercise NOW and for the rest of your life. Chasing after one fad diet then the next will do more to keep you fat than anything else you can do. You are setting yourself up mentally and physically to get on a merry-go-round of a destructive relationship with food. There are lots of people on this site who have finally been successful in fighting a life-long battle with obesity by realizing that starvation and magical thinking aren't the answer. Trust me, you don't suddenly wake up one day after getting to goal weight and find that you're a different person, suddenly "motivated" to do all the right things. A lot of us believed that, that being thin by hook or crook was all that mattered, and the world would be perfect and we'd never have a problem with food or weight or anything else ever again. Wrong, wrong, wrong. It simply doesn't work that way, as much as we'd like to believe it would. I highly recommend that you go to the Maintainer's forum here and read the "Posts worth reading over and over again" thread. If you want the TRUTH about losing weight and keeping it off, the answers are there. If you want to continue to live in a fantasy land of the Next Magic Weight Loss Cure while getting fatter and fatter over time, go on your fast. Damage your body, start on a path of destructive habits and warped attitudes. |

And as you all say, I'm not being rude .. just very blunt! :) |

The original statement was about fasting with juicy juice as stated below! Copy and pasted for Got2BThin's first post: Is juicy juice okay for a juice fast of 2wks? And the title of this thread is: FASTING Go figure! Stobborn kids that think they know it all! I guess we all were that way once!! But we grew up and learned to listen to our elders because they DID know what was best. You can't talk reason with youngsters today!!! They just won't listen till they figure out in the long wrong how WRONG they were!!! One day they will grow up! Fast if you want! Your choice... your life... your health! I know I want to live a long and healthy life personally! This appears to be a joke. I am here to help and get help from and with serious people looking to lose weight in a healthy way and for a lifestyle and not todays fad. You can lead a horse to water but you cannot make them drink. So if this person wants to harm themselves... so be it!! There loss in the long wrong. One day this person will think back and say to themself... man I should not have been so stupid and I should have taken that advice I was given from SO MANY DIFFERENT people! Nuff said... serious people need help and support. Therefore, that is where I shall be. |
Got2BThin on these boards and HateMyBody on Healthboards.com -- Got2BThin was taken :) -- eck .. I dunno about folks like yourself.
|
I am just now starting to read this message board again as I need some serious motivation myself. This thread is almost funny. I dont understand why you are being so rude to people that are concerned for your health. If all you have to say to someone that took time out of their day to look out for you is rude crap, maybe you should go else where.

I'll say this once. Everyone knock off the attitudes a bit. Relax and calm down, or the thread will have to be closed.
I posted in a calm manner, and everyone else here can as well, while still stating their opinion. Got2BeThin-3FC is a website for HEALTHY weight loss goals. The members and the administration here support weight loss in a healthful manner-by proper diet and exercise-not fad diets and pills and the like. We plan on staying that way. :) The members here work really hard to lose weight and keep it off in a healthy manner. Also, yes, it is possible to lose 10 pounds in two weeks-but doing it in such a drastic way will cause that weight to be water, the cleaning out of your digestive tract, and MUSCLE MASS. Very little will be fat. Losing weight that way will cause the jiggly stuff you want gone to stay around, and the lean, shapely muscle that you want to keep to suffer in the process. If you are really interested in maintaining a healthy body for life, I also suggest that you visit and read in the Maintainers forum. You have much to learn from them. Good luck, Aphil |

You seem to want us to support you while you starve yourself, but we can't do that in good conscience. Like aphil pointed out, we support healthy weight goals here. Please don't be in such a rush :) If you eat healthy foods and exercise, you will feel so much better! You are depressed now, but a healthy diet and exercise program actually treats depression in most people. Plus you'll have so much more energy, and you'll be happier. Aim for a slower weight loss, make smaller goals, and take it one step at a time. We'd really love to support you, but you are going to have to be more responsible about your health. |
Suzanne & Aphil.....
Amen and thank you... well said. Sorry if I showed my attitude. People just make it hard sometimes not to let our attitudes show. Like Suzanne said... I cannot (in my words here) support someone who is planning on starving themself! Then I am as guilty as they are.... or there blood is on my hands... however is better to put it where it is understood. I just hope this person comes to reason and realizes this is not healthy at all. That is all I can do. |
I agree with Aphil. All posts need to be constructive from either side or we'll have to close the thread.
Got - You are right. You absolutely can lose 10 pounds in two weeks, but it won't be fat. It's impossible to lose that much fat in that much time unless you are about 400 pounds. Your body just can't do it. The ladies here were each just trying to get you to listen to them so you don't have to learn the hard way like most of us have. It's heartbreaking to work so hard to lose and then see a regain, so our hearts are in the right places regardless of how we presented it. As for your answer, Juicy Juice is not acceptable for a fast. Check your local health food store. |
Now at least I know I am not losing my mind!!! I mentioned earlier tonight on this board that Got2BThin has asked about fasting before and she denied it. Well... I had to look back because it was driving me nuts. I new I was not losing my mind! Here is the message below: (copy and pasted)
