hi, i'm new

hi everyone, i'm new.

i've been trying to lose weight for about 10 weeks now. i've dropped a dress size, and 6lb as of about a month ago (don't own a set of scales as i'm in student halls).

thing is, in the last few weeks, i've just hit some kind of block. i just have no energy, it feels like an achievement just to get out of bed in the morning. i'm really behind on work and i've stopped exercising - i can't bring myself to do it. i think i've hit a plateau, so i've dropped my calorie intake to try and at least stay on track, but it's like i have nothing that really motivates me any more.

does this happen to anyone else? is it diet-related - low blood sugar or whatever - just something i have to push through? and is there anything i can do about it? i feel terrible. any replies appreciated.

Welcome Coffee :)

Do you find this sort of thing happening alot to you? I am no doctor so I really can't give you any medical advice but I would suggest talking to your doctor about it. Especially if it happens alot. There are so many things that can contribute to depression. There is a thread at the top of the boards that explains depression, I would suggest reading it, it might help.

Congratulations on the 6 lbs WTG!!! did you lose it quickly, if so that might be why you are so sluggish. A safe healthy weight loss is 1 - 2 lbs a week, I would think any more than that would be putting stress on the body, plus you are under alot of stress being a student, double whammy. What about vitamins, are you taking any ? make sure you aren't robbing your body of any nutrients, drink lots of water, you need fluids and water is the best way to go (noooo not the beer at the frat parties lolol, I remember those days :dizzy: lol ).

Come and visit us on the daily boards.

Hugs !!!

thanks all!

i am taking a multi-vitamin/mineral, plus extra calcium. i think i've been losing maybe 1lb/week, probably less. temporarily quit drinking (nasty night involving a bottle of vodka... and i don't remember the rest), but i guess i'm not getting enough fluids. i'll try and up that. thanks! it feels kind of good to be doing something positive for a change, instead of just cutting down on more stuff. i'm hoping to get back into some exercise so i can eat more, plus it always used to make me feel better.

Hi!

I think the problem lies with not eating enough. I know it sounds counter productive, but your body needs the fuel to keep going. It's like not putting gas in your car and expecting it to move. You're starving your body and it's saying "whoa there! I'm not losing another pound or I might die!". It's biologicaly driven to keep alive, and right now it thinks it's starving. It wants you to save fat and slow down. Mother nature works in mysterious ways! She doesn't get "diet" and wanting to lose weight. Our bodies were made to live through starvation for the past million or so years. It isn't programed to lose weight. This is an all new concept to our bodies.

What you have to do is eat more (you don't say how much you weigh, so I'm guessing about 1500 cals a day would be good) so your body can have energy to exercise. Don't stress on WHAT to eat, just eat small portions (in moderation) of whatever you choose that you like. Once you start fueling your body, it will want to move again. Get walking, go to the gym, whatever you choose, but just keep your body active in some way that is enjoyable to you. But don't forget to eat! Don't starve yourself anymore! It will only harm you in the longrun.

Eat and focus on moving more to burn what your body doesn't need (stored fat). Your body is holding on to your stored fat for dear life! That darn caveman is still in us all!

Good luck to you! Keep everyone posted.

Heidi
