Oh and I am worried about it making me angry and agitated..........I already have that.......major mood swings soooooo........ya awesome......what to do what to do. My poor husband.......I put him thru so much with my weight, moods, anxiety and depression....wait ....poor him?.....poor me for having to deal with it all inside.........he only gets to see what I "let out" lol

Kelly, just make sure you are on the right dosage, thats important. I was first put on too little it wasn't doing anything, then I was put on more than double the original dose and it made my anxiety worse. It may not make your anxiety worse, its just important to be on the right dosage. I have friends that think it is the best thing ever..of course it didn't work for me :(

my experience with Wellbutrin

Hello,

I am currently on Wellbutrin SR 100mg in the am, formerly on 150 mg in the am.

Yes it was formerly known as Zyban for smoking cessation as a previous psychiatrist who was prescribing it for me at that time informed me. Also it is most definitely known for dry mouth, it caused me some dental problems, but for some people that goes away. It is interesting regarding the hair loss connection, I didn't know what med that was from.

Initially at the 150 mg dosage years ago, I felt grrrreat, and it was a life enhancer, I felt thrilled to wake up everyday like I had a purpose. The psychiatrist who I was seeing at the time and I also realized that I was becoming manic from Wellbutrin so he titrated me down off of it.

About a year or a so ago, a psychiatrist who I have been working with for about two years ago put me on 100mg Wellbutrin SR. When working with the previous psychiatrist, I was on a brand name, now I am on generic and I am unsure of the difference in drug efficacy.

It has been suggested or mentioned to me by another psychiatrist of a loved one that perhaps Wellbutrin is not the best choice because of the elevated edge from it. I am reluctant to stop it because of how good I feel on it because I am bipolar and am scared to go into a deep depression.

Good luck to everyone who has posted.

I hope that this reply has helped others.

Just coming back to this thread to give my feedback on it. I took it for about 4 months. I'll say... it think it worked very subtly... I didn't think it was really doing anything, I wish I would of kept a diary of a before/after/after. I didn't feel like it decreased my appetite... but to be fair, I don't think much can other than will power. I guess years of binge eating taught me how to eat even when I felt full and stuffed :( It's been a rough few years for me, so I wasn't sure what to expect... like I don't think a pill could turn off all the problems going on in my life and just make me happy.

I stopped taking it for about 2-3 months now. But I think I did have more motivation when I was on it... I was starting to exercise more, sticking to my diet more, going out more, being as social as I could be in my current situation.

Then I got a really bad cold with a bad ear infection and had to stop my routine, and now I'm finding it hard to get back into that routine now I'm recovering from the infection/cold. Now I don't feel like doing those things as much, so maybe it was working! I was also using a generic and read the generic might not work as well as the name brand.

Now the only weird thing is, I know Wellbutrin can work on anxiety, depression and ADHD so I'm wondering which I had that it was working on! I'm starting to think it maybe ADHD, and that's what causes the depression and anxiety when I can't focus as much on things I need to or want to focus on. Maybe it was helping me to focus more on exercising diet, etc.. and things I know I need to do.

Welbutrin

Taking welbutrin for weight loss didn't work for me. Been taking it for one year, 100mg 2Xdaily along with 100mg sertaline(zoloft). It has work well for depression but the depression has caught up and seeing my doc this week will ask to have dosage increased. As for diet I found a book great food and lots to eat It's called "tHE FAST METABOLISM DIET". I have lost 10 pounds in three weeks. Hard to eat all the food offered. You can order it at Chapters.

I have been on Wellbutrin 150 for the last year. Over the last year I have lost over 50 pounds. Didn't notice anything real specific but it must have been doing something. So I got it in my head that we should up the dose and the doc agreed. Couldn't handle it. The 300 mg made my heart race, couldn't sleep, felt like crap...so what did I do....quit all of it cold turkey like a dumbass. BIG MISTAKE. I suddenly wanted to eat nothing but sweets, any sweet I could get my hands on...and then started getting restless leg so bad I could not sit long enough to do anything constructive. Everything below the knee hurt like **** also. My toes were on fire, they hurt, leg spasms, etc. AFter about two weeks of this it finally dawned on me what might be the problem. Restarted my Wellbutrin at the 150 mg dose and within a week everything is back to normal and my appetite is back like it was previously. The biggest thing with appetite that I've noticed with Wellbutrin is that when I get hungry I get REALLY hungry, but then it takes very little to fill me up and portions that I use to eat will fill me up to the point I feel miserable if I keep eating.

I was on Wellbutrin 150 for about a month and now I've been on 300 for about a week. I noticed the appetite suppression the most at the beginning and I actually didn't like it. It seems like it's evened itself out now. But now I'm having menstrual issues that are probably related to it and I'm worried I'm getting manic...ugh. I take it in combination with Prozac. On the bright side, I haven't binged since my doctor upped the dose.

Hello everyone,

I've been taking wellbutrin for approx 3 yrs now. I started at 150 mg 2x a day. I lost 25 lbs in about 4 months. I think it did curb my appetite. However, I attribute majority of the weight loss to the improved mood and desire to stick to a diet. I exercised like crazy. The meds gave me the will power to move and then the endorphines from the exercise gave me the motivation to continue. I had lots of reactions like others on this blog: anxiousness, dry mouth, memory loss, sleeplessness and finally lots of hair loss. Psych said hair loss is not a side effect. yea right. However, since that time and reading on this site, I think I may have been in ketosis (which I also read does cause hair loss for some). So medicine or ketosis?????

Then in Dec 2012, I had a crazy horrible reaction to an antibiotic that sent me to the emergency room the day my son was graduating from college (which I missed):tantrum::mad:. Was off all meds for a couple of days. Then I was scared to take any kind of medication what so ever. So I started taking 1/2 of 150mg 2x day. Doc said that was ok just increase if I needed. The side effects are a lot less. But I've noticed that my energy and consistancy in diet and exercise is a lot less. Don't know if it is because I've used the same workouts now for two years or the reduction in meds. So yesterday, I ordered the Jillian Michaels Body Revolution series and will see if that helps. I haven't gained the weight back, but I would like to lose the remainder of 10 lbs. Plus I just want to feel better. So I'm also thinking that I may need to try 150mg in the morning with 1/2 at lunch. I don't want to go back to 300mg. I think that was too much for my body. I'm really a tiny person at 5'.

So that's my experience with wellbutrin. Hope mine will help someone. Thanks to all for sharing.

I took Wellbutrin along with a couple of other drugs for anxiety and depression and I didn't notice any effect on my appetite or weight. It did, however make me intensely irritable and really, really angry at times. It's amazing that a drug can change your personality like that. Antidepressants can have really different effects from person to person. I went back to citalopram without a problem afterward and the irritability and anger evaporated completely.
