Vitamin D and B?

The other day my doctor suggested I take vitamin D to help me through the winter(I live in a basement appartment and had terrible SAD on top of my depression last year). I've been reading about the B vitamins being helpful with depression and overall health. I bought and am taking vitamin D, but when I was at the health store, there are so many different Bcomplex 'mixes' and I got overwhelmed.

Has/is anyone taking a B-complex or vitamin D and found them helpful alongside their regular meds and other support?(psychiatrist, journalling, meditation, etc)?

I take a calcium supplement with Vitamin D to help with the PMDD. I also take B12 for energy.
My doctor suggested Omega 3 and I have been taking that too.
These are in addition to my regular anti depressants.
I *think* that they help.

I take Omega 3 in the form of flax seeds that I grind up and either put in my breakfast cereal or drink it down in a glass of lemon water(supposedly lemon water in the morning is a good 'wake up' for the metabolism, too..)

I'm hoping a B complex will help me with energy, too. I slept most of today away and I'm really worried that I'm falling back into a bad 'episode'. I'm worried that working out this late(8pm) will keep me awake and I didn't have any caffeine today, so I'm hoping for an early wake up and more Shredding tomorrow :)

ps: check if your calcium has magnesium in it, I think its important for the absorbtion....

How is the flax seed option? I am not a big fan of these 'fishy' pills. :p
I used to take a magnesium supplement too....maybe I should add that as well.

I have mild depression all year long (if depression can be seen as mild) and it gets way worse during the winter. I also had a baby this year and had some postpartum depression, I think, but I couldn't really distinguish it from the regular stuff I have.

But anyways, I take cod liver oil capsules and it does help. There is a difference in the days that I take it and the days that I don't. I know you said you don't like fishy things, but it is an option. I never get any 'fishy' after taste. I order it from a company called green pastures. They're one of the only companies that doesn't strip the nutrients with high heat and add synthetic vitamins back in. Hope this helps!

pamela: double check your calcium pills(sometimes they put magnesium in them) and maybe check with your doctor, but I do know that some pills are already combined with magnesium. As for flax seeds, I love 'em. They're very nutty and easy to just throw into just about any food. I use my small coffee grinder to grind them up and release the oils to make them effective. Its better than buying them pre ground.

With regard to vitamin D, other great sources include sunlight, cereal, yogurt, and cheese. You can also take supplements if you don't think you're getting your fill. Good luck!
