Light Therapy

Hey! I was reading a few posts about light therapy or happy lights. I was wondering if anyone has tried them and if anyone has had success. If you could let me know what you use(d), roughly how much you spent, and if it works, I would really appreciate it! I have looked on amazon.com for some time about a light, especially at the Philips goLITE blu light therapy device. It is $150 so I would like some feedback or other suggestions before dropping the big bucks.

Thank you very much!

I actually have a lightbox for my depression, and yes, it does work. Remember to READ THE INSTRUCTIONS before you start using it! Your eyes are sensitive and the light box needs to be used a certain way or you can damage your eyes.

Make sure to keep up with it! I haven't used it for the past couple weeks and I've been feeling miserable. This post reminds me that I need to use it, I feel much better when I do.

Mine is the kind that also has the negative ionizer in it. I don't know if it works or if it's psychological, but mine helped me--I know because it broke a month or so after I bought it; I used it for another month with just the light and I sent it back and got a replacement because really, I noticed a difference. My roommates think it makes my room smell a bit like a hospital, but I disagree, I think it's a really clean smell and I swear, I feel better with the first breath I take. Do you love the way it smells after it rains? That's what negative ion therapy mimics.

Sorry, I know that's not what you asked about, but if you're going to shell out lots of money for something that can help you, you might as well get 2 products in one! :] Good luck!

Hi there,
I was using the golite for about four seasons, but I didn't really notice a huge difference. I went to use it again last month and it won't turn on so I'm planning of finding a 10,000 lux white light and seeing if that will give me better results. I do know a few years ago there was a woman on here who was the opposite, she had the white light and wasn't overly happy, then picked herself up a blue light and felt so much better with it. We are all so different.
I'm sorry this isn't overly helpful.
I just reread your post and my light was about $160 and I worked my way up to a half hour or so a day, usually while I was reading the paper in the morning with my coffee. I had it set for 15 min increments, so sometimes I'd set it up on the counter while I was making the kids lunches and then when I got back from walking to the bus I'd put it on the table while I read the paper and had my coffee. If I hit the button to many times my eyes would start to ache and I'd get a headache, so its best to start out slow.
Maybe there is a spa in your town where you can try out some light therapy. There is a place here in town that has been suggested to me after I told someone about my light not working. Its a thought.

But do a search, you'll find more :D

Its great you are researching this before you go out and buy... I know the # of lux has a lot do to with getting a good light.

Good luck !!!

I just bought mine on Amazon a few weeks ago and is working really well for me. Only $45. Just a basic one, but it works. Just do a search on amazon. Really worth giving it a try. And you don't lose much $$ if it doesn't work for you.
