Default Effexor and weight loss?

I know that a lot of medications cause wt gain. I gained 15 pounds on Prozac. Now I want to try Effexor. I am just scared that I will gain another 15 pounds! any thoughts?

Default my experience

I had weight gain on effexor and huge weight gain on paxil. I lost loads of weight on a light dose of zoloft and it helped the depression. Each person reacts in their own way, though.
Good luck!

What is so difficult is like you said, everyone reacts in different ways. Effexor is supposed to suppress appetite, but I doubt it! The thing is, my weight IS a huge cause of my depression, so gaining seems to be a terrible thing!

I've been on effexor for a few months now, and I have lost weight, not gained.

I highly doubt you would gain weight on Effexor. it is an SNRI (instead of Prozac, SSRI) which gives you a bit of norepinephrine reuptake inhibition as well. The straight SSRIs seem to have the most problem with people gaining weight. Effexor I think is pretty weight neutral.

however, just be aware that Effexor has a very short half-life compared to Prozac. I don't know if you noticed, but if you ever missed a dose of Prozac you wouldn't even know it. If you miss a dose of Effexor you will most likely feel it immediately. Be prepared to take it at the same time EVERY day.
