sweating as a side effect

  • A couple years ago I took Prozac but stopped because I didn't feel it was working and that it made me sweat a lot. My doctor said that sweating wasn't a common side effect but I couldn't think of anything else that could be causing it. Prozac had worked for me before, but this time it didn't. Now I've started taking Zoloft again (I took it after the prozac.) I started about a week ago and noticed I have been sweating a lot, especially at work. I am a server so I walk around a lot, but it hasn't been a problem before. Has anyone else had problems with sweating while taking an anti-depressant?
  • I've had a lot of problems with excessive sweating while on anti-depressants, mostly facial sweating. It looks like I ran a marathon when all I've did is walk for 2 mins. I found that it was much worse when I was taking EffexorXR, now that I take Celexa it's not as bad, but still there.
  • When I was on Zoloft, I had the worst night sweats. I'd wake up soaked in sweat and have to change clothes during the night. It was horrible.

But now I'm on Prozac and I haven't had it happen once. Also, I haven't experienced sweating in the daytime...

It's probably the antidepressants... hopefully the sweating will go away after a while?
  • I have sweating problems just from my weight.

One time my doctor gave ritilin to help pull me out of my depression. I really sweated on that. It was awful.

I haven't noticed sweating brought on by other medications (antidepressants/ antipsychotics/ mood stabilizers).

Besides my weight, my father is a huge sweater, so I don't know if I inherited that lovely trait also.

  • I don't sweat a lot, but always feel hot, no coat in dead of winter etc. Not peri-men... I thinks its my weight... because after losing a lot a few years ago I became one of those "I'm cold"... people who have to control the thermostat at work... I say "put on a sweater"... then I put my fan on... LOL

As for the Prozac, I don't take SSRI's anymore (make me manic) but was on it for years... It does have what they call "a poop out effect"... You do well on it for awhile and then it just 'doesn't' work anymore... too bad because I think its one of the better SSRI's around...

Mine is mostly facial sweating too. I know it's not a weight thing, though, because I didn't really have a problem before starting the meds. One woman was nice enough to suggest I lose weight one day, when I was complaining about "glistening." It kinda pissed me off. She assumed I was sweating because I'm fat.
