It's something my counselor suggested might help my fatigue and ability to concentrate while my wellbutrin kicks in. Their website says it's for people with narcolepcy (sp??). I have an appt with a phsychiatrist tomorrow, but I was wondering if you guys have had any experience with it.
Is there anything else that you've found has given more immediate relief from depression symptoms. I've started taking wellbutrin, but I may lose my job if I can't get it together before the meds have time to work!!
Hi,
I take provigil for ADD and i have no side effects. Most antidepressents take about two weeks to get in your system. Ask you doctor about deplin. It's considered "medical food"... it's a suplement that helps you body process the antidepressents for effeciently.... Please excuse the bad spelling
I LOVE Provigil. I have fibromyalgia, and while most people think of pain, my worst symptoms were cognitive - fatigue, and severe problems with memory and "brain fog." Absent mindedness wasn't the half of it, it was like my brain wasn't working anymore. It was really why I had to stop working. Pain you can work through to a certain extent, but there's not much you can do when your brain stops working.
I went to a neurologist who tested me for narcolepsy, which I don't have thank goodness, but his advice really helped a lot. He prescribed 1000 mg of folic acid (a B vitamin) daily and gave me Provigil to use as needed.
The folic acid worked wonders by itself (so you might ask your doctor if it's ok to try) and it's really cheap (under $3 a bottle at Walmart). But I use the Provigil when the fatigue is bad, or when I am going to have an unusually active day. The neurologist says he and many other doctors take it when they need to stay awake for long periods, such as for driving on long trips, because of the low side-effect profile.
I like it because it doesn't feel like I'm on a drug. It's smoother than even caffeine, so there isn't any hyperness or jitteriness. It just feels like being naturally awake, alert, and energetic.
It can keep you awake though, so you may have to see how it effects you. The doctor said I could take a morning and an afternoon dose, however I learned that I can't take it after 1pm or I cannot fall asleep at night. This apparently isn't true for everyone, though.
Thanks for the info. I got some samples from the dr. this morning. He said it may not work so I should try it before I get the rx filled since it's pretty expensive. He also said it would take a couple days to kick in. I took one this morning and so far so good. I'm not sure I'm able to concentrate any better, but I am not so tired today.
I've been taking ambien for insomnia and it's fabulous. I sleep all night long and don't have that "hung over" effect in the morning. Fortunately the dr. said that was fine to keep going also.
It's kind of scarey to be on all this medication, but I guess if it helps me function while I'm working through my issues I'll go with it.
Thanks again for the responses.

I have been taking Provigil for 2 years now. I have a history of depression and Effexor just wasn't doing it for me. I was feeling better, but I was still tired, distracted, listless, and forgetful. I had such a difficult time remembering things and keeping track of details and it ended up costing me my job.
Provigil gave me that extra push I needed to get back to feeling myself and having the energy (both physically and mentally) to be myself once again.
hi
Don't worry about the Abien, I've been on it for years. I sleep well and my focous at work is great. I take lexapro and wellbutrin. Keep me informed how you like the wellbutrin. I added to lexapro for the sexual side effects...
Wellbutrin has worked great so far and I'm even coming off the provigil because I don't need them anymore. Dr. added Lexapro this morning because I'm still having a lot of crying episodes. I took the first one this morning and have felt horrible all day. Can side effects come on that fast?? It might be some other stuff - may have a sinus infection.
Anyway - just good to feel better
