Default What can you substitute for bread crumbs in a casserole?

Hi chicks, I want to make a brocolli cauliflower casserole a bit lighter in calories. Right now it is 1 box each veg, 1/2 cup breadcrumbs, 4 eggs and 1 packet onion soup mix. (topped with fried onions--that I can just eliminate)

How it will do if I take away some yolks? And is there a non bread crumb item that can be used? I'd like to avoid pasta type options also.

Thanks in advance for any culinary assistance you can share with me

How many does this serve?

If you substitute Eggbeaters for the eggs, you save a lot of fat.

If sodium is a concern, substitute a small chopped onion, few cloves chopped fresh garlic, and some dried herbs for the onion soup mix.

If you're eating whole grains, I'd use whole wheat breadcrumbs, and just factor in the carbs into my daily allotment. I've sometimes made my own breadcrumbs from the Joseph's Whole Wheat/Flax pita (60 calories per pita)

I would probably just leave them out all together. If you have to have them I would make my own with whole wheat bread.

Thanks chicks. I'll try it a few different ways and follow up.
