This article is really dreadful in my opinion and not very supportive at all. I thought it showed some really stupid attitudes to weight loss and some women who really needed nicer husbands.

I read this article and tried to submit a comment of my own, but it wouldn't let me because I'm not a member. Here's the gist of what I would have liked to add:

~~Overeating is a little more complicated than simply being a "lust for food". Many people overeat because they're afraid to face their conflicts directly. They use food to help them cope, much the way alcoholics use alcohol. It seems that this is especially a problem for women who think they have to be "nice" to everyone else and who feel guilty when they stand up for themselves. If this is true of your wife, then she needs to learn to face her problems directly. I was unable to stand up to people who were taking advantage of me because I was afraid they'd consider me a bad person and a bad representative of my religion. To numb my sense of helplessness and unfairness, I became a binge eater; food sedated and comforted me. I had to learn the difference between BEING bad, and being CONSIDERED "the bad guy" by people who were only looking out for themselves. Now that I'm willing to speak up and risk the disapproval of other people, I have less need to sedate myself with food.~~
