Thank you for starting the next thread for us, gardenerjoy!

I am still in the middle of a extremely frustrating two-week stall on the scale and only ended up losing 4.8 lbs overall last month, so - between that and the fact that I'm going back home on vacation this month for the first time in almost 6 years (and will be gone for almost two weeks overall) and will undoubtedly see a gain during - I'm going to be MUCH more conservative with my goal this month. Honestly, I'll just be happy to maintain by the end of the month, but I'm going to set my goal for 5.6 lbs and hope that I can reverse any temporary gains that may happen from our travels and still show a bit of a loss before August comes around. We shall see! Until then, I'm wishing everyone lots of luck this round!

I usually tackle this challenge by setting a goal that I think I can achieve, which means that some low-confidence months I don't participate at all! I'm going to try a new tactic. Set a goal that I don't think I can achieve. My theory is that I'll do better by trying and failing than I will be not trying.

July goal: -2.4 kgs (reach 97.9kgs)

1: 100.3

Hi guys,

I'm returning to 3FC after a 7 month "break" that I hoped would help me, but in actuality I have never been more at a loss with losing weight. Unfortunately, I have regained around 20 lbs and I'm ready to move forward and start over. Time to take a deep breath, forget the past and try this again.

There are some events on my horizon that I would like to lose weight and feel confident for:
1. SIL's wedding on September 15th (hoping to be in the 170's by then?)
2. Friend's wedding on December 1st (would be nice to be in the 160's here)
3. 30th birthday on April 13th 2019 (ideally 140's, but more likely 150's!)

Since I've been away for a while I was wondering what do you guys do to lose weight these days? I'm not good at diets i.e. eliminating entire food groups or fasting because I just do not have the willpower! I am considering calorie counting again, but I've honestly struggled to keep on top of it when it comes to inputting dinners since I cook from scratch. My biggest weakness is grains: cereal, oatmeal, bread, tortilla chips, rice, pasta etc. My diet is practically entirely of grains so I know I need to work on cutting down significantly in that area and replacing them with vegetables. Does anyone have any tasty lunch ideas? I know I need to get back into exercise. I'm currently doing the Insanity Max program but doing the modifier since my body is weaker now! Plus it's summer and GA is awfully humid in summer for me to enjoy exercising outside.

Anyway, forgive my mega rant! I'm hoping to get to know everyone here and get my new weight loss journey started

My goal in the Summer to Autumn challenge is just over 7 pounds. So I'll let that guide my goal here and go with a modest 2.5 pounds.

SW: 140.8
GW: 138.3

ophelia - I'm sorry about the stall. You've lost a remarkable amount of weight so far! You're small now, so the losses may slow down. Just under 5 pounds in 1 month was a fantastic achievement, imo! I hope you have a wonderful trip home to Cali!

Welcome to the new participants this month!

Riestrella - Good to see you again and thank you for all the challenges you led in the past! Regarding losing, I've twice in my life needed to lose weight. I'm in the midst of the second one now, and the other time was about 10 years ago. I didn't count calories the first time, but I was calories cognizant and ran rough estimates in my head. I cut down grains to usually only 1 or 2 servings a day (sometimes none), and I ate mindfully--only ate when I was hungry and stopped when I started feeling full. I've always loved veg, and I increased my consumption to an even higher level. I aimed to eat some protein every time I ate. I cut back on sugar. I got more discerning with food choices and only ate calorie bombs if I considered them worth it. I was probably eating around 1300-1400 calories on a daily basis with 1 splurge day a week that was closer to 2000. Just as important as the food for me, though, was I became more active. I took a 3.5 mile brisk walk on most days. The reason that really helped me is bc it was inactivity that had led to my weight gain in the first place. It's like clockwork for me: become sedentary, add 1 or 2 years, and--boom--I'm about 40 pounds heavier than my usual. Back then, I was consistent with exercise and mindful eating, so I lost the weight in about a year. This time, I've been off-and-on, with most of my life being a diet break due to various circumstances. So it's taking longer, but it's probably a similar loss rate if I only include the times when I've been "on." I've been counting calories more often this time, but that doesn't really seem to help me that much. I do just as well, or maybe even better, when I just go by the eating guidelines I mentioned earlier and daily exercise. Good luck and happy to have you here!

Well, the whoosh didn't all stay, but that's okay. Still met my goal plus a little. I'm not sure what that blip was all about, maybe just a preview to keep me working hard. I'll never understand the logic of the scale.
