Default The weekend thread!!

I tend to do the most damage on the weekends, it is really a struggle for me to get through them without a gain. There are too many opportunities to eat out, especially with our schedule lately. I do my best during the week because working gives me the consistency that I need!!

Please feel free to join in with me!!

Today we are taking the kids to a hockey game after work. It starts at 7pm. I do not do well in this type of situation. In order to avoid grabbing something at the game (or after) I decided that I will fast up until dinner time and then eat a large meal and be done for the rest of the night. My kiddos want Happy Meals at Mcdonalds so I will get a double quarter pounder meal with large fries and a diet coke = 1,250 calories plus my coffee, gummy vitamins and fiber powder will give me a total of 1,440 for the day. I usually eat around 1550-1650

I have had 40+ oz. of water so far and will drink as much as possible throughout the day.

We also have a big family party to navigate for tomorrow, but one thing at a time!!

I am really hopeful that I will be able to stick to this plan and not snack at the game.

Thanks for starting this thread, kfunk!

My challenge this weekend is that I haven't really put together a food plan for this weekend. I guess I'll do that now!

Friday - rest day
=======
Special K + almond milk, Lean Cuisine meal, Yoplait yogurt, hamburgers with guacamole and red bell peppers = 1200 calories

Saturday - rowing 30m + 10 knee pushups
=======
Jimmy Dean Delight sandwich, yogurt, carrot sticks, energy bar, chicken w/ pasta and spinach salad, 2 glasses wine = 1450 calories

Sunday - rowing 30m
=======
Special K + almond milk, TJ's Harvest Salad, ???

Not being able to figure out Sunday's dinner tells me that I need to go grocery shopping! Well... let's see how I do!

Thank you for starting this thread Kfunk. I hope it will help me to stay on plan. I usually eat 2 meals a day with 1 snack. I had scrambled eggs for brunch, along with a bite of DH's french toast. We are going to a casino, where we will eat in the Food Court, and I will have an AntiPasta Salad. They serve a piece of flatbread with it, but I will decide then if I'm really hungry enough to eat it. I hope I am able to pass on it.

The salad is big, and beside the greens, it has deli meat, pepperoni and cheese. I can only estimate the calories, but I think I will come in around 1000 - 1100 for the day, and that will allow for a snack if I want it.

kfunk: thanks for starting this thread.

I haven't put together a food plan for the weekend yet but I will most likely have a shake tomorrow morning (almond milk, yogurt, berries, protein powder, spinach). I usually just wing it but I think maybe making a food plan for the weekend would be helpful. I'm not sure about lunches because when I have a shake in the morning it usually sustains me for several hours so I may just have a snack later (maybe sliced turkey and an apple) and then eat a regular dinner - maybe chicken and veggies or a gluten free burrito with cauliflower rice. Sometimes I have yogurt and berries with some pumpkin seeds in the evening if I am still hungry or feeling like something a bit sweet.

Usually one day on the weekend (often on a Sunday) I like to treat myself and usually end up eating some "sugar-free" gummy bears or sugar-free chocolate covered almonds in the evening. I tend to eat too many of them so I am going to reduce my portion which will be an improvement.

I also need to get some groceries this weekend so that I am prepared. That can be a downfall for me - not being prepared.

My goals for this weekend are:
1. have a food plan and follow it
2. get groceries
3. reduce the amount of gummy bears I eat on Sunday

I am so glad that you wonderful ladies are joining me!!

clarita I think that making a food plan is an excellent idea, good job on today and tomorrow!! What kind of lean cuisines do you eat? My fav. is the santa fe rice and beans (LC might call it something slightly different, its their version of the Smart Ones entrée that I love so much)! Rowing is a tough workout!!

carol Your meal plan at the casino sounds great!! That salad sounds really good! Its nice you will have left room for a snack! I struggle when I am away from home. I would probably end up drinking a ton of diet coke to try to get me through... yum!!!

flower That shake sounds delicious!! I think I am going to make one, but need to go to the store first!! I like the idea of making a food plan ahead of time as well! I like how you listed your goals out!! Maybe drink a HUGE glass of water before you have your gummy bears?! Even 1 less is an improvement!

I am getting ready to leave work to go pick up the kids. So far I have had 92 oz. of water, coffee with creamer, 1 diet coke and my fiber powder. My stomach is rumbling, but I will make it to dinner. I am going to chug a lot of water before I eat my meal and then try to eat slow. I am hoping that will be enough to tide me through the game and then after when the kids get icecream from DQ.

We've got this!!! I will be checking in later with you all!

Hey everyone, I will join in with you as well! I don't have anything really interesting going on this weekend as of yet, but I will let you guys know if anything comes up! We don't really plan many things in advance unless it's a special occasion (i.e. anniversary, holiday, road trip, etc), because my husband is in the military and doesn't like trying to set things in stone too much in advance because there's usually a big possibility of it having to get cancelled/postponed due to the unpredictable nature of his work schedule and being able to be called in for anything at any time. So, calorie traps and triggers like movie nights with snacks (popcorn is a huge trigger for me) or dinners out on the town are generally undecided until the afternoon of the actual night it happens, lol.

It will be nice to have this thread to help navigate the days off a little more, since so many temptations lie in the open possibilities of a weekend. Thanks for starting this thread, kfunk!

So, I'm already derailing a little bit, but that's okay. It's not a derail exactly. I said that I was going to have two glasses of wine tomorrow, but it looks like it'll be tonight! A couple of ladies from my real estate office are going to meet at a local wine bar, so... YEAH! I'm kind of excited to get some social drinking and not just with DH. It looks like I'll need to abstain for the rest of the weekend, though.

wannabehealthy - It's great that you have a plan going into your casino visit. Hope you have a blast!
kfunk - I don't really know which ones I like, yet. If you think the santa fe one is good, I'll have to look for it, though. Thanks for the suggestion!
flower - Good idea about reducing the gummy bears... I'm sure that they're super-tempting, though. It's nice that give yourself a treat!
ophelia - Glad you're here!

Hello Weekenders! Weekends are definitely a high-danger zone for me too although this one shouldn't be too bad. Went to the outdoor cinema last night (Friday) and saw I Tonya. Good!. DH bought take out food there and had a couple of beers, but I was very good and ate beforehand and just took a diet tonic to drink. We took the dog too, and she was on perfect doggy behaviour until the point in the film where someone was knocking on a door - then the woofing started! She wasn't the only one though, every dog in the place suddenly piped up at that and everyone was laughing! We're in tonight (unless we pop out to the pub for a drink), and out at the football tomorrow (meeting friends in the pub first) but this is a regular event and they're used to me drinking soda water these days, so nothing too hard to negotiate.
Next weekend will be really tough though. Sure i'll have time to explain the temptations there later in the week....!

kfunk & SantaClaritaDiet: We've gotten the little Lean Cuisines several times to keep quick freezer meals on-hand, and the Santa Fe Rice and Beans one is our oldest's favorite...she loves it!

Okay, so I totally derailed! Last night two glasses of wine turned into three, and with that I seemed to lose all willpower!
My husband asked me to stop by McDonald's and I ended up getting myself two cheeseburgers in addition to his order. I am so mad at myself! They weren't even that good!
What was I thinking!?

I can only do my best to turn it around today, but we're going to a steakhouse for dinner, so that might be hard. God give me strength! Tips anybody?

ophelia and ange82much I am so glad that you joined us!!

ophelia Your husband's job would make it very difficult to plan things in advance! I don't know about you but I really enjoy the weekends when we have nothing planned, I cave to social situations too easily! We live in a rural area so on the weekends its not uncommon for us to be in the car out and about for the whole day. My daughter usually has hockey and then there is a big grocery shop that we do together and that usually leads to other stores, etc... I need to plan better on those days!!

clarita It is so easy for a couple drinks to turn into more and then for unplanned eating to ensue! I hope that you don't beat yourself up too badly. It could have been SOOO much worse, 2 cheeseburgers were probably the best choice you could have made at the time. I planned for a double quarter pounder last night and that had 750 calories in it, and I bet your choice had much less!! As for the steak dinner... I would probably suggest saving the majority of your calories for that dinner. I would drink TONS and TONS of water before hand, probably drink some tea or coffee to help feel fuller. Maybe have some veggies or fruit to snack on before I went. As long as you don't let it turn into a whole weekend thing, you will be just fine!! At the steakhouse I would order steamed veggies as one of the sides and have water with my meal. Then I would enjoy the steak and the other side would be something I can get excited about (mashed potatoes!!). This is just what I would do

ange The outdoor cinema sounds amazing!!! That is too funny about the dogs! That is really awesome that you drink soda water on your weekly outings before the game! I think that cutting down on my alcohol consumption has been one of the best things I have done!

I meant to get on here last night and post, but we didn't get home until 10 and all I wanted to do was go to sleep!! I stuck like glue to the plan I outlined earlier in the day. I ended up drinking a little less water than I had hoped (125 ish oz.) but that's okay. The game was a ton of fun and the meal stuck with me so it wasn't difficult abstaining. We decided that we would wait and take the kids out for ice cream tomorrow after my daughter's final hockey game of the season. She starts back up with another club in a couple weeks though!

Friday:

Coffee with 4 tablespoons of flavored creamer: 142
1 tablespoon Benefiber healthy shape: 30
2 gummy vitamins 20
double quarter pounder with cheese 750
Large French fries 500
LOTS of diet coke 0

TOTAL: 1442

I slept in very late this morning!! I have only had my medications and water so far but in a few minutes I will be making coffee and eating some oatmeal. For a couple reasons I cancelled our plans this evening so I won't have to navigate a potentially sticky situation. We will do some grocery shopping later but I will make sure it is a short trip so that I don't get tempted! We are going to do steak, mashed potatoes and asparagus for dinner.

How is everyone doing so far?

kfunk - Thanks so much for the advice! I know that I can remain in control of myself today. I was just feeling a little bummed about yesterday, but you're right - it could have been much worse. Today, my strategy is to have a small breakfast (300 calories), a small lunch (380 calories) and then I'll try to keep my dinner in total between 1000-1500 calories. So long as I don't eat more calories than I expend to keep this body of mine operating, I should be okay for today. Sunday, I'll get back on the weight loss track. I'll for sure take your advice with the steamed veggies and water drinking.

Half the weekend done. Yesterday I decided to walk from our house to Bondi Beach, via as many parks/bush tracks as possible to see how long it takes, then round the coastline to Bronte, and back via Queens Park and Centennial park. It was really nice. Got to Bondi in about 70mins, but that included some wrong turns and looks at the map, so could definitely do it in 60min next time. My thoughts are to drag DH there as an evening walk sometimes, get fish and chips by the beach (or fish and salad in my case!) then get the bus home. It's very do-able. The second bit of my walk took another couple of hours and was also really nice, so I reckon 7-8 miles all together. It was about 86F and pretty humid yesterday too, so not a bad bit of calorie burning. In the afternoon we did stop off for a drink at the pub during our dog walk, so I had a glass of wine which was yum. Limited my dinner calories so that I still came in at under the 1000 for the day. So all up, Saturday was well negotiated.

Ange holy smokes, that sounds like a heck of a walk, great job!! Do you wear a Fitbit to track your steps? I would be curious to know how many you racked up!! Awesome job with your calories as well!!

I finished dinner and ended up around 1450 calories for the day. I think I will be going to bed soon, I don’t feel well. Hopefully I can sleep after how late I slept in and then I also took a 2 hr nap.
