Exciting and scary at the same time. The idea of going into maintenance is intimidating for me. When I read stats like "80% of people who lose weight regain it all back and more" etc. it scares the crap out of me. I know the key is to keep up the lifestyle and dietary changes that got me here but eat a little more for caloric in/out balance. I'm just afraid I won't do it right. I also need to- frankly- either revise my goal by another 10 lbs or seriously start resistance training. I was basing my goal weight on what I weighed in my 20's, but I had a lot more muscle back then. Without that muscle, I am still 34% body fat (according to my scale, which is +/- 3% accuracy) and I'd like to be more like 25% BF. I think I'm going to try to stop at 135 as planned but really put a focus on putting on some muscle. Functional strength is really important to me. Plus it's good for the bones.

kfunk6113 09-26-2017 02:39 PM

Eagle I am still 45 lbs. away from goal and I am worried about maintenance too, and also worried that I wont be able to get the rest of the weight off. Stopping at your goal and then adding in strength training sounds like an excellent plan!! I think I will need to go lower than mine as well. I have heard nothing but good things about weight lifting! I think that the people who gain their weight back (outside of medical conditions) go back to the same way of eating as before they lost the weight. I plan on keeping up with my good habits: posting on the maintainers forum, drinking plenty of water, getting in some consistent workouts and weighing in every 3 days or weekly. I am hopeful that if I see a gain on the scale I can nip it in the bud right away before it gets out of hand. I feel so much better about myself already. We went to a wedding that held the ceremony outside, it was unseasonably hot for this time of year (90 degrees) and besides wishing I had my sunglasses with, I felt just fine, had it been last year I would have been sweaty and feeling gross.

When this scale dies I am going to replace it with one that has a body fat reader!! Have you ever had your body fat measured with calipers? That is something that I would like to do when I get closer to goal!

You are such an inspiration, keep up the great work!!!!

EagleRiverDee congrats on being so close to goal! It sounds like you’re in a great mindset to maintain. I am about 20 pounds over, determined that this is my last time losing, I’ve been reading a lot about it, too. You’re right about sticking with what got you to this point. Also, as Kfunk said, when you have a small gain, get it off right away. You’ll do great!

kelijpa your numbers are lookin good!! I always admire people who go for runs. I have been looking for used treadmills so I can start in the privacy of my own home!!

You have made great progress, no matter what!

kelijpa 09-28-2017 06:21 AM

Kfunk6113 I used zen labs couch to 5k app to get to running 30 minutes. It works well for me, I don’t have a treadmill, so I don’t run during the winter, I do the app again in the spring. This year I did something different after I finished c25k it focused on distance, it’s taking me to another level.

Angie you’re doing great!
