Matisse: If you're seeing great results, that's more important than the scale, although I know how frustrating it can be when you do everything according to plan and the scales won't cooperate. I can only assume that the lack of movement on your scale is due to one of two things: 1) water retention, since the body will retain water in periods of high exercise in order to repair the little tears that happen in our muscles; 2) a combination of fat loss combined with your muscles getting larger, resulting in a net scale movement of nil...however, that's a good movement! Keep doing what you're doing and you'll continue to see results...first in the mirror and eventually on the scales!

I posted this over in the 5 lb challenge and same goes for here. No worries!

Thanks you, Tuscany! You gals are great support. I trust the science too and, in time, the scale will show movement.

Measurements are down an inch on my hips and .5" on my waist and bust, a few cm on my arms and legs from when I was the same weight (only .2 lbs difference) on July 26th.

Today, I started weighing food and logging calories into myfitnesspal which is faster/easier to use than fitday. Nothing will be left to chance. ;-)

So, very slight movement today. .2 lbs down.

Happy here as I finally am back down the little I was 3 days ago... I think I have a bad thyroid issue... (left side is 3 x's the size of the right.. going to call and get an appointment.... but that would solve the stall problem and the complete disappearance of my eye brows!) lol
GW 243.5

Matisse 08-17-2013 09:24 PM

wannaskipandlaugh - I am so sorry to hear about your thyroid. I hope the doctors will be able to help you swiftly.

And may I ask? What happened to your eyebrows?

Is everyone burning lanterns to the scale Gods?

Only Believe 08-17-2013 09:45 PM

wannaskipandlaugh- Make sure to get an appointment right away. They may want to do an ultrasound. I've had thyroid issues for years.. Get that appointment soon!

I've been a bad girl today, ladies.. I blame it on those blasted ninja monkeys. So I may not weigh in for a day or so. LOL

Matisse: The other thing I've seen on this forum that has resulted in stalling weight loss is medication. So, if you're taking any medication you might see if that's a contributor. If not, then I'll just keep my fingers crossed that you receive a big whoosh soon!

Sue: I hope you get to the bottom of your thyroid issues and that there's no cause for concern!

mountain mama 08-18-2013 08:23 AM

Ok- I'm up too- been on plan food wise. There's something weird going on here! Will be working out hardcore today! Up 1.8!!! I am disgruntled- but I know I've been eating nutritiously so I will not feel defeated.

There's something crazy going on here with all of us gaining- I hope it's not as contagious as it seems right now!! Lol

I pretty sure I know what I have as it is genetic sigh)... and it is still swollen and hard to swallow on the right side ? and I am congested in my right sinus too... sooo weird! Aspirin helps alittle and has eased the discomfort!... NOTE: lack of eye brows (I had thin ones.. but in Dec I lost 2/3 of them - back end) is a sure sign of thyroid troubles... Here I thought it was because they went grey! LOLOLOL Thank you for you comfort my friends... I appreciate it and will let you know what happens! :) HUGS to you!!

Up a little bit, but I am thinking it's due to yesterday, went running and then spent a couple hours piling wood as hubby cut and ys split. Sore today, but it's a good hard work kind of sore!

Matisse 08-18-2013 11:13 AM

Continue negotiating with those ninja monkeys, gals, we are seeing some movement at last. Me, wannaskipandlaugh and Cheeriloos (who is doing so good) at least!

Sw 149.6 lbs
Cw 148.6 lbs

Here is a wrench to throw to your ninja monkey? I drank green tea yesterday which seemed to have a great diuretic effect. I prepared a big pot around 1 PM and drank some of it hot, then added the rest to my water. If you have some fresh mint leaves, the two of them together are delish.

So, down 1.4 lbs since yesterday and .2 lbs since my pre-hiking weight(on August 10th). I asked the question in my accountability thread, but I wanted to know what you gals thought about it. What counts as a whoosh? Does it need to be an unmitigated loss (like below the lowest weight since the diet started) or any sizable downward movement on the scale counts?

Tuscany - Thanks so much for your input. Now that you say it, I have been taking Advil since the hike and then Anaprox (for my periods) which is like Advil on steroids. (Same family.)

I do not know if these drugs are associated with weight gain or stalled weight loss, but since the hike, I was definitely doing water retention so it's the eternal conundrum : what comes first? The chicken or the egg kinda thing?

Good day, everyone!

cheeriloos 08-18-2013 11:20 AM

Matisse I had green tea yesterday too, maybe thats why I was so thirsty last night. I drank lots of water and felt like I hadn't had water in days.

Matisse 08-18-2013 11:40 AM

Ha, strange cheeriloos! Tea is supposed to count towards water, unlike coffee, but I guess that getting rid of water through diuretic properties makes you thirsty too. I was also thirsty.

Just read this : http://bembu.com/benefits-of-green-tea

I wonder why I waited so long to add it to my rountine. My house is full of great teas that I rarely, if ever, prepare. I do not own a kettle at the moment and I wonder if I will invest in a fancy kettle with variable temperature like these. Tea afficianodos swear by them.

Wow Matisse great find! I bought it because, once I read in a magazine to drink 5 or 6 cups per day and it would have a weight loss effect,I rarely remember to drink mine too! The kettle is a great idea, but what would one need variable temperatures?

Because different teas have different brewing temperature. This seems like a
good primer. For example, hotter temperatures tend to make the tea more bitter. There is a whole art to tea which we are not much aware of in North America. My botanical garden (It's ten walking minutes away) has Japanese tea ceremonies sessions. I should attend.

Hey ladies:)

I will not bother you with complaining about my plateau. But I will say this-- Not Impressed!!!

Matisse: green tea makes me happy- I have lemon verbena and mint in my herd garden I often add to it. I recently started putting it in my green smoothies in lieu of water- yummy:)

Motherm: chopping and piling wood is the best workout ever- on top of that its a great feeling to know you are not only getting a workout but doing something beneficial for your home as well!
