It only confirms that we are built differently and that the pants I buy are cut generously.

The running is great for you! I know it is difficult but try not to stress overly about the scale, I am sure it owes you some lbs and will eventually pay it off to you.

July has been a pretty rough month for me. I've still been eating right below maintenance levels & have been getting in exercise about 3 times a week, which is obviously enough to maintain, but I'm not really losing. I so need to get motiviated. I'm hoping it will cool down enough to get my bike back out. When it's in the 90's it's just too hot for me.

Congrats Meka on hitting that 50 pound milestone. Woohoo!

Welcome to all the newcomers, and hello to all my old friends. You're all doing great! I've been super busy at work & haven't really gotten much of a chance to post here like I used to, but I do love to see this thread being so active.

Hope everyone has a great OP week.

Had done great for the past week. losing 2.5 lbs. Then my son was in a car accident Monday and I was so stressed I went off plan for a day and gained back a pound. Not horrible but not great. He's fine, but his car isn't. He's getting ready to leave for college in a month, so now he needs to find another vehicle. So glad he's safe. The road the accident happened on is notorious in our area for people getting killed. If anyone had been coming the other way he definitely would not have survived, as he crossed the lanes, spinning as he did so and taking out about 30 feet of guard rail wire. I was worried he's been texting or on the phone, so I checked our account and he wasn't. He said he was tired from having worked hard the day before and just zoned out. I guess we've all done that. Back on track now. Already did my Firm Express workout and walked 2 1/2 miles with my Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Chauncey.

bethann1970 So glad to hear your son is alright. Doesn't sound like you let that one off-plan day derail you either, so its good news on all fronts.

@tinneranne2; just keep chuggin' along! something is bound to happen with your weight loss.

@Jez; i had that problem hovering in the 151.something. you're not alone! just keep working at it!

@zoesmom; welcome!

@lisha91; my 18th birthday is october 11th, so this challenge would be a great way to celebrate it! then i'll only have 10lbs before my ultimate goal weight of 120lbs. good luck!

@Terre; welcome back!

@kandd416; the gentleman and i were thinking of getting bikes soon, but i feel your pain about riding outside right now. it's been about 99/100 degrees F around here!

@bethann1970; good thing no one was hurt. sending prayers and good vibes your way!

Hey everyone

I am trying to get caught up on reading everyone's posts. You guys have been busy this week!!

I am kind of struggling. Usually anytime I try to eat better and exercise I have a big weight loss my first week. I usually lose somewhere between 5-7 pounds followed by 2-3 pounds the second week and around 2 pounds a week after that. While I realize most of the first week's loss is from water weight, it is still nice to have such good, motivating results when you are just starting out. However, this time I dont seem to be experiencing that big loss.

I have completely stopped drinking any type of soda or sugary beverage which should be cutting about 750 calories a day from what I was consuming. I have also limited eting out to once per week. I am eating lots of fruits and veggies, and I have included some vigerous exercise about 3 to 4 times a week for an hour a day.

Even with all of these changes I seem to be only experiencing about a 2 pound weight loss for my frst official week on plan. This is very discouraging because I feel like I have worked hard and made big sacrifices. I am really worried that I will lose less than a pound a week from now on if I m only going to lose 2 pounds my first week.

Why am I not losing weigh like I normally do?

I'm a little late to the party, but would like to join in too! We just rejoined the gym after being gone for 2 years. I took it slow the first 2 weeks with some yoga and walking but have picked it up this week to include more classes - kickboxing and zumba. So far so good. :-)

Congratulations Melissa I'm sure earned those 4lbs. I've only lost 4lbs once since the first 2 weeks of this journey.

Melissa-2 pounds is 2 pounds! Don't under appreciate those. Remember, you didn't gain the weight over night, so it does take time. Prior to being as big as I currently am, I used to be a fitness buff. I am more or less disgusted on how I got to be as big as I am when I used to be so slender. One of my close friends was, and still is, a fitness coach. I remember going to her in despration recently because of how much weight I had gained over the course of five years, and she told me something that made me feel like I could do this. She said on average, the normal person gains 10-20 pounds a year but can lose 1-2 pounds a week. That means you can lose faster than you gain, even at one pound a week! Now, in may case, I gained 150 pounds in five years, so I don't fit that cookie cutter average, but I refuse to let me down. Besides, even at the one pound a week lose, I will still lose faster than I gained.

If you were already on the low end of the calorie spectrum, cutting 750 calories a day will make a difference, but not the huge one you were expecting. That usually only happens if you cut it by half or more. Most people who have biggest weight losses are the ones who consumed almost 3000 calories or more and suddenly went to a 1000-1500 calorie diet. Small things add up: gum, mints, that tiny nibble you took when you were taste testing dinner. Count everything, weigh everything, keep a book handy to jot those numbers down. You might be surprised to find hidden calories you were unaware of. When counting calories, make sure you count carbs as well. For most over weight people, that is the largest culprit.

But plain and simple, you lost weight. You lost 2 pounds. Do not get lost up in the number. Take each tiny step as a step forward to the big picture. That was two pounds you would not have lost if you hadn't commited. Now THAT is an accomplishment!

Edit--of course now I read you actually lost 4...so WOO HOO, even better!
