New Couch to 5K Week 4

  • Here is our new thread for those of us who are following the new couch to 5K program.

I'll be doing Day 1 this afternoon. I will see how I can do in terms of distance instead of time. I'm not sure I'm running fast enough yet. I may be too heavy yet to run as fast as they suggest to do the distance and time together. Whatever. I'll keep plugging along till I can do the 5K and will work on my speed as the weight comes off.

Keep up the great work gang!!
  • Way to go ladies!!!! Keep it up!!!
  • I did Week 4 Day 1 this afternoon and MAN was the second five minute part tough... Keep going though! I did not do the required distance but did the time instead. I figure I'll work on the time and gradually increase my distance. By the end I may not be up to 5K but I will be able to run for 30 minutes or so and I'm happy with that!
  • Great job Econ Nerd, you are doing super!!!!!
Well I had a crazy, crazy week last week and standing on my feet for 12+ hours a day I just couldn't do anything when I got home but put my feet up and go to bed!!! So I will be doing Week 3 this week, so I am a week behind but would still like to post here to keep myself accountable.
  • I started week 4 on Sunday, in order to be able to finish week 5 before Thanksgiving. I'll be going out of town to visit my family, and I'm sure I won't be able to get in a workout, so this way I can do week 4 Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday, and week 5 will fall on Saturday, Monday, and Wednesday. I imagine when I start back up the following Monday on week 6, I'll be regretting that I took 4 days off!

Anyway, on Sunday (W4D1) that second 5 minutes was awful! I kept going, but it was awful, which really made me kind of dread today's run, but I just did it and it was much easier. Don't get me wrong, I was still huffing and puffing like crazy, but I didn't feel like I was going to die! So now I'm excited about my next run and moving on to week 5.

Gatorgirl- thanks for explaining the distance run versus the time run. I think I will switch to distance next week, especially when that 20 minute run comes up on the 3rd day. Ugh, sounds impossible, but we can do it!

Karen- your doing great! That last 5 minutes about killed me too!

Reda- I imaging after 12 hours on your feet, the last thing you want to do is run! When is your Cancun vacation? Sounds like fun!
  • Week 4 Day 2 done! It was a bit easier than day 1 but I was still sucking wind by the end... Keep plugging along
  • Hurray! I just finished week 4! It did get easier, but I'm nervous about week 5. I'll be starting on Saturday, so I'll let you all know how it goes. I may start going by distance instead of time as well. It seems like a good time to switch over.

Keep going guys, we're almost half way through!
  • I'm nervous about week 5 too! I was just looking over the plan this morning. I am going to stick with doing the required time and not worry about my distance. I can't do both right now. I figure once I am done I can start increasing my speed some more and that will get the distance increasing too. I may be doing this "wrong" but that's fine as long as I am doing it My plan might change as I go along though - we shall see!
  • I did Week 4 Day 3 on Saturday morning Now on to week 5 tomorrow morning! I'll start teh week 5 thread then!

Keep up the good work everyone!!!!
