It is hard to stay motivated enough to do them....I wish I could afford to buy the 30 day shred workout and let Jillian kick my but into shape :kickbutt: !!!! Oh well, a small price to pay for being able to have this time with my baby girl!! :D

How long are the work outs....I'm looking for a good 45 minute bootcamp type DVD.....I've been looking at yard sales and on e-bay

The workouts are only 25 - 30 min long.. Because of that I always add some extra some days..

Hey MercerMom, everyone gains. Weight loss is never linear, or an exact science. Don't kick yourself, just keep on moving.

In my experience, the Daily Plate site does way over estimate the number of calories burned doing some exercises. I use a heart rate monitor watch to gauge calories burned a little more accurately.

If you just started lifting weights, it is very possible that you are retaining water from doing so because of the slight tears you make in your muscles as you are building them up and the subsequent repair process.

Regardless, don't let it get you down! Keep on doing what you are doing, and the scale will move in the right direction eventually!

I'm still at 156 today. Eh, I'll take it. I do need to start going back at this full-force like I was a month ago, though.

I wouldn't think I would have muscle gain already would I?

I am a ways a way from TOM. I just don't know:(

I do feel like I am eating too much fat, according to Dailyplate.

I do feel like I need help finding some low fat low cal high protein foods to eat.

Some posters on dailyplate seem to think the fitness calories burned aren't accurate. If that's the case then I have been going way over cal allotment.

Anyone have any experience with this.

Do NOT trust the whole "eating back your calories" thing on Daily Plate. It's a great way to watch everything you eat and record your workouts, but eating back my workout calories caused me to stay at the same weight for three weeks. When I stopped doing that, I dropped big time.

Same here. Also I don't use DP to calculate exercise cals or "net" cals. I just set my calorie level at 1500 and use the site to track that. Then whatever exercise I do is "extra" if that makes sense.

I find that trying to figure out what cals I can "eat back" is overly confusing.

.

skinnybeach 07-02-2008 03:39 PM

I don't eat mine back either. If i do go over i will work out more during the week, but i don't let the # i burn effect eating more or whatever.

No loss today...just the same. Can't wait til tomorrow. TOM is upon me and i'm down to a new low the past 3 days, so i am hoping for my own woosh this weekend or early next week.

down .5!! I will take whatever at this point because I can't get below 172...been here for 3 weeks now. I'm trying to change things up a bit.

Congrats to everyone with a loss!

kittycat40 07-02-2008 07:32 PM

Thanks Melissa, that looks great!!
We had a nice visit and she brought candy for the kids, and us too ??? She cannot control herself. Then she'll tell me they are chubby or worry about how skinny they are-- all w/in the same week-- when they are NOT, either thin or fat...-- really, so not. They are fit and strong and eat great foods and fruits and veggies-- even salad.
:)

MercerMom 07-02-2008 09:11 PM

Thanks guys,

I am new to dailyplate too, so it did seem a little strange to burn 350 cal walking behind a power lawn mower for 30min:D

In your opinions do you think fitday is a better place to keep up with my cals. I haven't even looked at it ever.

If I continue to us DP I should just set a calorie level and go by that no matter the exercise calories? Right?

I think that is a good idea....if you want to lose say 3 lbs a week...thats 1,500 calories a day you need to cut from what it would take to maintain the weight your at. From what I have read....if you take your current weight and multiply it times 12 that should be the amount of calories to maintain your weight without any exercise...

so you would say 155 times 12 = 1860

So if you ate 1200 calories you would only need to burn 840 calories a day in exercise to burn your 3 lbs a week....that sounds a little tough....maybe you could shoot for 2 lbs a week???

Try www.shape.com and look under the tools section for calories burned. You can enter your wieght and activity and time and see how many calories burned.....or www.caloriecheckbook.com

hope this helps.

I do have to say that 3lbs a week is not a reasonable amount to lose if you're starting at 155. Most conventional wisdom recomments 2lbs a week OR 1% of your bodyweight, if you're at the extreme high end or close to your goal.

For you, 1.5 lbs a week would be healthy and reasonable.

I know that we all WANT to lose quickly, but we all have to be realistic. When I first started losing weight at 237, I could drop 2 or even 3 lbs in a week. Now, I do well to drop 1.5 a week or less. And that's not even worrying about water weight, my TOM, etc.

.

miriam101 07-03-2008 01:36 AM

I don't believe it and I can't figure out what's happening -

this morning I was UP to 154.6 (from 152.2!!) - and I haven't been doing anything different and TOM is far, far away.

feeling very discouraged and disheartened. :(

Robsia 07-03-2008 02:57 AM

Photochick - I'm the same - I consider it a good week when I manage to lose 1.5 or more. My current goal is a pound a week which I think is a healthy and achievable loss.

I managed to get back down to ticker this morning - yay!

Morning gang! Down just a smidgen...

Start Weight: 159
Current Weight: 158.6 (-.4, 4.6 to go)
Goal Weight: 154

Miriam, hang in there, this isn't usually a linear process. If you haven't changed anything in your diet or exercise, then just keep moving forward. Eventually you KNOW the scale will reflect the changes.

kittycat40 07-03-2008 07:45 AM

Morning losers,

Miriam, don't despair. Push water today and try to get a very sweaty workout in. You'lll feel immediately better.

I am the same weight, happy for no gain... waiting for TOM.
Ate 50/50 wholegrain/reg pasta with vodka sauce and turkey meatballs for dinner last night. Made it for the kids but I was really hungry and it was WOW sooo good.
Bonus for me--it did not lead to an out of control moment.

I'm out of town for the holiday weekend. I'm going to try to keep my wits about me. I don't want to blow all this work on some fleeting bbq tasties...

see you when I get back!! Have a nice weekend...

Hang in there miriam and theresia! Like Josephine said, weight loss is rarely linear. I'm on my millionth 5 lb. challenge and I've been up and down. As long as it keeps going down overall, you're ok.

What are everyone's plans for the 4th?

We never go anywhere because the fire danger is so high here, and there's always some yahoo setting off fireworks. We always stay home...just in case. Plus, the dogs get a little nuts with all the noise.

Have a great day, everyone!

Yeah, we already have yahoos shotting off fireworks and it driving me bonkers. I think it is crazy that it is illegal to shoot them off but they are for sale in EVERY store, including the grocery store.

Good Morning Ladies,

I just reset my DP calorie intake and I am determined to do better today. I have to since tomorrow will be such a hard day with a big family BBQ happening at the pool. :( Oh the pressure!!!!!

Sorry about about the gains ladies, I am right there with you. Mine said 156 this morning.

Congrats to those of you who lost. I can't wait to be there with ya.!!!!

yoo hoo ladies! I'm the same today 215.4.

Salt is not good for me either. If I eat salty foods especially for dinner I'm up the next day. I'm okay with this sometimes as I like salt! I just try not to do it before my official weigh-in day on Wednesday.

Happens to me every time! High sodium day = 1-2 lb gain. I have to be really careful about this when TOM is near. Otherwise, I could have a 5lb water weight gain!

Congrats on 5 pounds gone forever, Melissa!

I am at 155.5 this morning. Finally, a tiny bit of downward movement. I think I am plateauing too, though, since I've been hovering around the same weight for over a month now. 157 is where I plateaued last time I lost weight, too, but last time I gained back 20 pounds, and this time I am just going to keep moving forward, knowing the scale will reflect it soon enough.

I just blew past the 50 pounds lost total mark to being down -51.4 overall, yippee! I've been waiting to cross that -50lb lost milestone, and it is nice for it to come after the BBQ we threw at my house yesterday since I didn't snack or eat anything out of the ordinary at all. I love rewards like this!

Start Weight: 159
Current Weight: 156.4 (-2.6, 2.4 to go)
Goal Weight: 154

Robsia 07-05-2008 07:43 AM

Well done!

I was thinking "All the American gals will have put a couple of pounds on yesterday so I might win this one ths time!"

And along came you with your willpower and foiled my evil plan. ;)

I was the same weight this morning.

McKenziesmomma 07-05-2008 08:13 AM

This seems to be a slow challenge...LOL! Guess we all either have TOM or a small plateau! But the last two challenges seemed pretty quick!! Lots of whooshes...I bet that accounts for some of the plateaus! Don't fret ladies....keep your heads up....some of you may be losing some inches instead of lbs for now! Thats good too....that means smaller clothes!!! :D

Down another lb today!!

SW: 253
CW: 251 (-2 and 3 to go!)

TOM finally kicked in with full force...I'm still losing weight?? I bet its cause I really am just getting stated with this diet...you know how at the beginning of a diet you lose a bunch of weight....I bet thats why!!! I have to remember this cause next months TOM will probably not go this way...I bet its normal and a gain with a whoosh next month!! :( Oh well.....remember the whoosh!!
