Fun way to gain control? 10 cent Challenge

Hi. I'm new here, but not to 3fc. I've come and gone a bit over the last couple of years. I found this challenge in my wanderings and thought it could be a fun positive way to encourage control in respect to eating (plus it has non-food rewards!). What do you think? I'm going to try it for a couple of weeks and see how I go.

Idea: For every one of the daily goals you acheive each day, you earn 10 cents. Put them in a "prize" box, and by the end of the month, or even a couple of weeks, you could have enough saved for a splurge on yourself - manicure/pedicure, new make-up, a new book or new clothes etc. It's always nice to reward yourself for these things, and I really like the idea of a non-food reward. :D

So here are the 10 mini-goals for everyday:
(Feel free to modify if you have something better or more appropriate for you)

1) Drink 8 glasses of water
2) Met my calorie goals
3) Ate vegetables
4) Did not binge
5) Did not purge
6) Today, i did not eat ______________. Even though it was calling me.
7) Did not weigh myself (Try to make it only once every 3 days, or once a week)
8) Did something good for myself/something i enjoy doing: i.e - paint my nails, soaked in the tub, painting, yoga
9) Did at least 20 minutes of exercise
10) Tougher challenge: Looked at the mirror and said to myself "I am beautiful, I accept myself inside and out."

BONUS: Compliment someone else/Hug 3 friends

Mods, if this isn't appropriate or you feel it's too childish, feel free to delete, and I apologise for causing any offence.

No, this is wonderful!!! Thank you for this!!! We love positive threads in CIC!!!

I may have to modify the ten cents because I am SO broke so instead I'll use virtual dimes and report them on here :D

Here are my mini goals:

1) stayed within calorie range
2) drink 64 ounces water
3) exercised at LEAST 20 minutes
4) did not have self-depricating thoughts
5) did not binge
6) did not purge
7) did not severely restrict
8) did not use the "f" (the 3-letter one ;))word when looking in the mirror
9) drank no more than 2 coke zeros
10) cooked at least one meal

I don't know if you want to keep this as a daily/weekly thread, but you are more than welcome too. If we have a few participants who want to report their "earnings," then we can keep this as a weekly/daily challenge thread. BUT -- this is not a competetion or a contest!! So, please, DO NOT turn it into one, or I'll delete your post :(

Argh no way would it be a competition - that's where so many of my troubles started, competing mentally with friends who were about 1 foot shorter than me and not realising shorter = lighter for the same build.

It would be good to have it as a weekly thread if others join in, that way I'd feel more accountable, and in a way, the bad days would be shared, not kept in my head where I'd beat myself up over them.

Tara-- I think that that is a good idea, so long that it is a gentle challenge to oneself, and not to get down on oneself if all the goals are not made (I am sure that is how you mean it to be anyway, right?).

This might be something I might try with myself, so that I don't feel guilty the next time I buy something and I can say to myself "you have truly earned this, so you have everyright to buy it and revel in it."

I think that this is a good suggestion that maybe would work for some people. Or at least if some people keep track of it it could be like a healthy habits log so one can see one's progress and what maybe could be worked on a bit more.

I don't think that's childish at all, it seems a good way to motivate yourself! I can't think of anything I want, unfortunately, with which to reward myself - I just want to not be crazy and hate myself - but I can see its a very good system if you are in a place to do it.
