Default My mother gone = time to binge

My mother is trying to help me lose weight (key word: trying) but I feel like I'm in a competition with her. Everytime she goes out, I binge because I'm so upset that she won't let me try Jenny Craig or Weight Watchers after 3 years of unsuccessfully trying to lose weight. The outcome of this depression: I have gained 10 pounds in the last few months. Does anyone have any ideas about what I could do to stop binging when shes gone?

Hmm this is hard, I completely understand. For example, today my mother went out too and for a minute I got excited because I figured I could just eat and eat and no one was home. But then I remembered the promise to myself and the others on here and made the decision not to. I found something else to do instead. Trust me, it was not easy at all. Sorry if I wasn't much help but I can relate.

adhslaxer26, I recognize what you're doing, because I've done it myself. I'd be sneaking food, and would get caught by my husband or kids, and I'd silently be angry with THEM!
I think you have to make a conscious decision to take charge of this "habit". You don't have to do this. It's your choice to eat when when your mother leaves the house, and whatever your relationship with her, it's your hand putting the food in your mouth.
Is there anything you could do when your mom leaves? Something you enjoy that would distract you? Cranking up the stereo and dancing, taking a bubble bath with some trashy magazines...
I know how difficult it is, hon... food seems like our best and kindest friend, but we're just fooling ourselves. Sending you a big hug...

Why won't she let you try Weight Watchers or Jenny Craig?

Well it sounds like you know why you binge.....the key is being able to deal with the feelings.

Find something not food related to occupy your time when she leaves. Call friends, read a book or magazine, walk around the block......

I know how you feel....trust me.

I have had to redirect my thinking, even when I'm alone. I always think "Would I want all my friends and family to see me eat this...or should I choose something else?" I am almost always satistfied with my choice to eat something better. I end up feeling better about ME! Also it may help to let your mom know. I would tell my mom "when you were gone today, I almost ate _____, but instead I had_________" She was always encouraging and proud that I made the right choice.
