December Exercise Challenge!!

Oh, my. One month to the New Year.

I am very impressed with all the exercise you ladies did last month! and incredibly embarrassed with my own lack of progress. You are all to be congratulated. :carrot: :cheer: :hat:

Here's to another month of moving and losing!! :hat:
Anyone is free to jump and join us!!

DancingAngel 12-01-2005 01:24 PM

Okay, then, here we go!

This morning I did workouts from 2 different DVDs. Kathy Smith's Cardio Timesaver -- Quick Workout #1 = 20 minutes. And Cathe's Maximum Body Sculpting (from the low impact step DVD) -- 28 minutes. My total today -- 48 minutes.

Here is to a sweat-filled, healthy December!

:cheer:

I totaled up my November minutes - 1235 - I am going to try for 1500 in December, or, at least 1236:p

It's Friday! A cardio day for me, and traditionally I try to do a favorite to celebrate the end of the work week. So this morning I did Cathe's Low Max; I did 5 circuits (out of 7) for a total of 53 minutes.

Have a great day! Keep on pumpin'!

sherpamelissa 12-02-2005 02:02 PM

I ran 10 miles this morning. Woo Hoo! :carrot: That is my longest run ever. It took me 2 hours and 23 minutes and I burned 750 calories. What an awesome way to start the month.

2nd: 263 minutes - Phew! 10 miles.

FishWoman 12-02-2005 03:40 PM

Melissa, that is awesome!!! And, i see you moved your ticker down! Way to go, girlie!

ellis 12-03-2005 10:58 AM

Good going, girls! :hat:

I just did 3 hours of heavy cleaning at my sister's, which I figure equals 90 minutes of exercise. I worked up quite a sweat. Phew! Plus a 20 minute walk.

FishWoman 12-05-2005 11:08 AM

I hope everyone had a great weekend! I haven't worked out yet today, but wanted to post my weekend exercise.

Friday I ran 3 miles on the treadmill; Saturday I did 45 minutes of tae bo; and Sunday I did 60 minutes of ballet.

Back from the gym! I did 33 minutes on the elliptical.

Hey! This day is flying by!

I'm having quite a busy week -- I'm involved in my church Christmas pageant and it starts this week. Tonight is final dress rehearsal. I have a drama role and my own song -- it's great fun, but I'm already tired and we have 2 weeks of presentations! And I'm already feeling the lack of sleep. We have our final dress rehearsal tonight. I'm in the habit of getting up at 4:30 am to do my exercise, and I'm hoping to continue that! Sleep will be a casualty, but I think I can afford that better than to risk losing my good habits. So send me some kind thoughts, if you wish!

So, over the weekend, on Saturday I did the toning workout from Gilad's 45/45 Split -- 45 minutes.

Sunday (my "active rest day") I did Cathe's Basic Step (30 minutes) and an upper body workout from QuickFix Total Body (10 minutes) -- 40 minutes.

This morning I did Donna Richardson's Brazilian Workout -- 52 minutes.

I hope everybody has a great beginning to this new week!

Greetings to all!

This morning I did a QuickFix Cardio Hip-Hop workout (10 minutes) and Denise Austin's Shrink Your Female Fat Zones (40 minutes) -- Total 50 minutes.

Send a warm thought -- our morning low was -4, and hubby just called and said the furnace quit! The repairman is on his way, and I hope it's a quick (and if possible, cheap) fix!

Hope your home is warm today!

FishWoman 12-07-2005 10:27 AM

I worked out last night after I got home. Did my Crunch Pilates dvd.

Dancing Angel - did you get your furnace fixed? I hope so. I thought it was cold here at 30 degrees above. Minus 4 is too darn cold! :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: Here are some sun-shiney vibes for you!

Hey Melissa - we haven't heard from you since your 10 mile run. Are you doing allright?

I'm not sure why I didn't post on Monday. Hmmm, it has been crazy around here! :dizzy:

I did 50 minutes on Monday eliptical and bike. I skipped yesterday and did 60 minutes today. It is very hard getting up at 4:30am in this cold! :snow4:

2nd: 263 minutes - Phew! 10 miles.
5th: 50 minutes - eliptical / bike
7th: 60 minutes - stair machine / eliptical

DancingAngel 12-07-2005 01:19 PM

Hey, y'all! Fishwoman, thanks for the sunny vibes. I love that Crunch Pilates DVD!

We got the furnace running (thank God), but will need to replace it soon. Well, I guess we have to spend our money on something, huh? Our furnace is older than our kids, and they are old enough to vote, so I guess it's time. It's still in the single digits, and more snow is expected - ya gotta love the midwest!

This morning I did The Firm Calorie Killer (42 minutes) and a Cathe stretch routine (13 minutes) -- total 55 minutes.

My church Christmas pageant starts tonight, the first of 14 presentations. I'm playing the meanest woman in Bethlehem -- it's a comic relief part and all kinds of fun. So you can send me "break a leg" vibes for the next couple of weeks! :cp::cp::cp: :bravo:

Have a great day!

MissyA 12-07-2005 02:02 PM

Ok I subscribed to this thread to get motivated and it worked. I got up at 4 am this morning and actually did a WATP I had planned to fit one of those Pilates DVDs in; but the baby got up and it is almost impossible to do those crunches with the dog and baby on your chest. If I am on the floor it is to play with them or I have fallen and can't get up! I couldn't wait to get home and post that I worked out and not just read about everyone else working out!

What are your favorite workout videos. I am going to reward myself every 5-10 lbs with a new workout something or other. Would appreciate any suggestions.

FishWoman 12-07-2005 04:06 PM

Made it to the gym during lunch today - 45 minutes on the elliptical.

Missy - I think Dancing Angel is definitely the one to recommend workouts:D I have only a few so far. I do really like the crunch pilates, it is about 30 minutes of low impact cardio and then 15 of matwork (mostly abs). I also have one called the NYC Ballet workout. It is an hour long, very low impact, and uses actual ballet moves. It is great when I really want to stretch and balance. I have one yoga dvd by Sara Ivanhoe, who I think is an amazing instructor - I have ordered a few more by her to test before I buy any.

Hello! Brrrrrrr -- is winter almost over?? Oh wait, it hasn't even started yet!! Bummer...

Well, Missy, I have a bunch of videos, 'tis true. You might try checking them out from your local library to see what you like. Just make sure you choose the ones suited to your fitness level. And be aware -- if you do them consistantly, your fitness level will improve! Be sure to include cardio workouts as well as toning workouts (weights, Pilates, ball) and flexibility (yoga/stretch). Start at the library -- you'll find what you like and then can shop till you drop!! I love getting and using new workouts.

So, this morning I'm super exhausted (Christmas pageant program last night). But I still dragged myself out of bed and worked out. I did the 15-minute "Dance off the Inches" and Crunch Boot Camp Training (30 minutes) for a total of 45 minutes.

More pageant tonight! But I can sleep in Saturday...

Have a super warm day!!

FishWoman 12-08-2005 03:52 PM

I lifted weights and ran today. I did hills on the treadmill for three miles. It is way too cold to run outside! (Actually, it wouldn't be too cold if I had proper clothes, but shorts and a yoga top dictate inside running.)

Happy Friday! Big weekend for me -- 5 pageant presentations starting tonight through Sunday. It's going really well, although I sure could use some more sleep!

This morning I did Cathe's Body Fusion -- 50 minutes.

Don't start your weekend until you break a good sweat!!! :flow2:

sherpamelissa 12-09-2005 02:36 PM

Wow, guys - you are putting me to shame around here. :o I have been skipping workouts just as much as I have been going. I don't know if it is the cold or lack of sleep. I haven't been sleeping well, we got a new dog and he likes to sleep with us. I am sure I will adjust soon.

I had to be to work early and we got 6+ inches of snow yesterday. I got to the gym a little late and left a little early. BUT AT LEAST I WENT! :carrot:

2nd: 263 minutes - Phew! 10 miles.
5th: 50 minutes - eliptical / bike
7th: 60 minutes - stair machine / eliptical

I think I am going to try the library. As I dug through old videos, I found some of my Tae Bo and some old work out videos they were even wearing leg warmers. Does anyone have the Richard Simmons? How good are they? I like 70s music and oldies and seen a lot of them at the goodwill store. Thought about picking them up.

Going to my husbands Christmas Party tonight and we both love to dance. Maybe that will help me work off some weight before weigh in tomorrow

Hi, I'm new and happy to be here!

Hi friends,
I have only a second because I have a 7 week old baby to tend to! He's awesome. My third boy! Their ages are 10, 8 and 7 weeks!
I'd love to join in. I'm a runner and trying to get back into it. I have a bad cold so I can't run today, but did run 3 miles 3 times last week.

My goal for this upcoming week.
Monday - run 30 min
Tues. - run 30 min.
Wed. - pilates class (never took one.)
Thurs. - run 30 min.
Friday - chase my own children around!!

Happy to be here. I have 15 baby pounds to lose, but after having a c-section I know I must be patient,
Love to you all,
Gracegirl:)

ellis 12-11-2005 10:05 AM

Welcome, Grace! Good for you getting that "baby weight" off right away! :hat:

gracegirl 12-11-2005 01:18 PM

Thanks Ellis!

I appreciate the welcome! I feel so much better when held accoutable instead of keeping all my thoughts in my head. (ex. when to eat, what not to eat, etc.)

My goal for the rest of the day is to remain abstinent until suppertime. I had soup and crackers for lunch. That's all I can muster up.

Hope this cold ends soon! Can't wait to put on my running shoes and hit the pavement!
Love,
Gracegirl

Brr, it is a freezy-cold Monday morning! I am huddled in my office with the heater on, dreading the 2 block walk to the gym later today!

I didn't work out Friday, my tummy was very upset and I didn't think that cardio would be such a good idea:o I was feeling better this weekend though:) Saturday I did 35 minutes of yoga and 30 on the elliptical, and then Sunday I did a 40 minute yoga dvd.

Hi! It's Monday, and where did the weekend go? Oh, yes -- I was singing and acting my heart out all weekend in the church Christmas pageant. We are halfway done -- off tonight and tomorrow, then Wed thru Sun we'll do 7 more! Somewhere I'll find the energy.

I won't steal it from my workouts! I've been good. For the weekend and today I did the following:
Saturday -- The Firm Crosstrainer = 58 minutes
Sunday -- Kari Anderson Push/ I did the step routine = 35 minutes
AND QuickFix Lower Body routine = 10 minutes
Monday -- The Firm Fat Blaster = 45 minutes

Missy, you mentioned Richard Simmons. His workouts are quite good, and he is lots of fun. It's kind of a beginner level, but you can easily "pump it up" quite a bit if you are at a higher level. I know he has some brand new DVDs coming out in 2006. If you can find them, try Sweatin' to the Oldies 2 and 3, Sweat & Shout and Disco Sweat. They are 50 - 55 minutes each of low impact and some toning/ab work as well.

Okay, have a good Monday!

gracegirl 12-12-2005 02:28 PM

Hi Angie,
Welcome! I'm still under the weather but will try to get my run in tomorrow.

Have a wonderful day!!!

Well I didn't exercise at all this weekend. My cousin drown in a boating accident and I spent the weekend on the lake waiting. I hate emotional eating. My head says to stop but I catch myself doing it with out even knowing it.

DancingAngel. I think I am going to get the Richard Simmons. I love dancing and times seem to fly when I do it. I think it would be just the thing to lift my spirits.

DancingAngel,,wow 190 lbs is fantastic. Please tell me there is a place I can read of your journey.

Ellis and Gracegirl thank you for the welcome.

The weather here has been fantastic but suppose to change..explains the headache/migraine

I have a gazelle which is my main exercise...which Ive not been doing much of,,,we are in the midst of renovations,,,can priming a room twice be called a workout? I will be painting tomorrow too if so...lol I have a total gym,,which Im looking forward to setting up again.
well off to bed I go...

Missy, I'm so very sorry about your cousin. :( The dancing is a great idea... keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

Angie, I feel for you doing renovations. We did our kitchen last year, and it took FOREVER!!
It's -19C here in Ottawa. I know it'll get colder than this, but I'm staying indoors today.

DancingAngel 12-13-2005 01:23 PM

Hello! It's so encouraging to see so many posting!

Missy, I'm sorry about your cousin. It's so easy to eat at such a stressful time! Dancing will help.

Angie, my 190 pound journey is not recorded anywhere. I had my stomach stapled back in 1986, lost 50 pounds and had a baby in 1987. I maintained a weight of around 250 until around 10 years ago and then finally got serious and got the weight off. I arrived at goal around 1998 and have been here since, and I work hard to stay here! Even with the surgery, I could easily regain weight if I weren't careful. And that's why I get up at 4:30 every morning to work out! Believe me, it's worth it. I LOVE being healthy.

This morning I did Karen Voight's Ultimate Step Circuit workout for 56 minutes.

Everybody have a great day!
