10/01 - 45-minute pilates class; 1-hour step aerobic class
10/02 - nothing 10/03 - 45-minutes total body conditioning class (class includes high-rep/low-weight arms/legs; abs; push-ups/plank) 10/04 - 45 minutes on my home elliptical 10/05 - 45 minutes on the elliptical at the gym 10/06 - 50 minutes at the gym today! 20 minutes of weight-lifting; 5 of abs; and 25 on the elliptical. 10/07 - 60 minute ballet workout. 10/08 - nothing 10/09 - 45 minutes of pilates. 10/10 - nothing 10/11 - 46 minutes total - 20 minutes of weight-lifting; 5 of abs; and 20:51 on the treadmill. ***** 10/12/05 - 33 minutes running outside (3 miles) It is so nice out right now. It's overcast here in D.C., but not humid or hot. I ran up Mass. Ave. to the naval observatory (where the Vice President resides) and back. Melra - It usually takes me about the first mile to loosen up and really get into the rhythm of the run. Particularly if i am running in the city; the traffic lights can make it hard to find the groove. If i am running in my neighborhood, or on the towpath, i can "zone out" fairly easily. Although then I usually have my dog with me, so i have to look out for him. I have a hard time zoning out on the treadmill b/c i hear the noise of my feet compared to other people's feet, and I subconciously try to adjust my stride so we (me and the Complete Strangers!) are running in the same stride. I can't help it! I have only experienced "runner's high" one time, and it was on a long run, about 6 or 7 miles in i just felt like i didn't even have legs, that i was just floating along. |
I was able to get 30min of cardio in yesterday and a long stroll home with my daughter. I've slacked on the weight trainging this week--so much for my bootcamp program. It will have to wait until Monday and then I'll hit it hard again.
I bought my swimsuit yesterday for our anniversary getaway this weekend. I had been putting it off b/c I had hoped to be 5pounds lighter than I am, but no luck. Anyway, I went to a boutique and the ladies there fitted me for a size 10! Yay! I had no idea. Thanks to my thighs, I still can't fit into a size 10 pants/jeans (i tried) but 10 skirts are fine! Tops are a whole different matter though. I'm going for some more cardio tonight before I pick up my daughter. We are leaving tomorrow at 1 so I thought I'd duck out at 12 and try to sneak in some cardio before my husband figures out that I should be home. Even a last attempt to look better in the hot tub will help my confidence a lot. He also doesn't know that I'm bringing my running clothes with us. I don't know if I'll actually use them or not, but if he sleeps in or naps off all the wine we'll be sampling, then I at least want the option of doing something healthy. The friends we are going with are training for a half marathon and so they are going to try to get in a 7mi run that weekend. Yeesh. They're both fast runners, but still--I dont' know when they're going to find the time to get it in--we only have the weekend to enjoy ourselves. Guess that's probably why they are both thin and fit and I am....not. ;) Honestly right now I feel closer to fit than thin, which is a very good feeling. |
I hope you have a great time at the B&B Melra. I am sure you look fabulous!
I did not make my 60 minute run today. My daughter has been sick the last two days. I have been up with her all night. Luckily, yesterday was a rest day - but today was not. She is home with grandma right now, but somehow it doesn't seem right to leave work early to go to the gym rather than right home to my sick baby! She has been running a fever as high as 101.7 and coughing a lot. I've got her fever down with Tylenol and I hope she gets better today instead of worse. I may do the run tomorrow just around the neighborhood. I am most proud though, that I haven't eaten a bunch of crap even though I am sleep deprived and feeling yucky! eta: DUH! :dizzy: I have my gym bag with me. I just went for a 40 minute run a lunch. Sometimes the all or nothing thing really sticks with me. If I couldn't do a 60 minute run I wasn't going to run. Not very bright! ;) |
Melissa, I hope your daughter gets better soon. I don't have children, but it must be awful when they are sick and there isn't anything you can do but wait.
Yesterday I lifted weights for 15 minutes and then did the elliptical for 30 minutes. I haven't made it to the gym yet today. It is another crazy day at work, and i can't delegate this project. Melra - have a great time this weekend! |
So... how was your weekend Mel?
Our anniversary is this Friday, we are going out overnight on Saturday. Which just happens to coincide with the first game of the World Series. (GO WHITE SOX!) I have told hubby if he wants to change plans I can deal with it. We will be married a long time. The Sox haven't made it to the World Series in 46 years. So, no gym yet today. I had an early meeting at work so I had to come straight here. My car wouldn't start so I have the hubby's. I think I just left a door open or something because the battery is dead. I have to run home at lunch and switch cars so hopefully, I can still leave work early and hit the gym as planned. We'll see. |
I seem to have fallen behind on posting my daily totals - I just realized my last update was 5 days ago - but i have definitely worked out during those days.
Melra - how was your weekend? Did you go running with your crazy marathon friends? Melissa - I get into the same mindset sometimes; if i can't work out for as long as i wanted to, then I am not going to just work out for a little bit. I am trying to stop that, but it is hard. ******** 10/01 - 45-minute pilates class; 1-hour step aerobic class 10/02 - nothing 10/03 - 45-minutes total body conditioning class (class includes high-rep/low-weight arms/legs; abs; push-ups/plank) 10/04 - 45 minutes on my home elliptical 10/05 - 45 minutes on the elliptical at the gym 10/06 - 50 minutes at the gym today! 10/12/05 - 33 minutes running outside (3 miles) 10/13/05 - 45 minutes - 15 of weight-lifting; 30 on elliptical. 10/14/05 - 45 minutes on elliptical. 10/15/05 - 90 minutes total - 1 hour ballet workout; 30 minute walk. 10/16/05 - 30 minutes on elliptical. |
hello all! I brought my workout clothes to our weekend getaway but forgot to pack my running shoes. I totally could have done it too. Our friends got up and ran 7miles before breakfast. wow.
I am prepared to hit the gym hard today. We'll see how well I do on my running. I did get in a very short run on Friday before we went out of town, which did a lot to alleviate some of the guilt from the wine and cheese we had! I hope your daughter is feeling better, Melissa. I'm impressed you crammed in those extra minutes. Your daily totals look pretty good to me, Fishwoman! |
I am glad you had a good time Mel!
My daughter is feeling better. She is still coughing but the fever is gone. I did stop at the gym on my way home. I did a 40 minute run (3.07 miles) and full body weights. I didn't really seem to want to run, but I hate to give up. The last 10 minutes instead of going slower I really jacked it up. The last 3 minutes I started putting up the incline and adding .2 mph each 30 seconds. I was so busy trying to keep up I wasn't thinking about how bad it sucked. |
Mel? Fishy? :listen: Was it something I ate? ;) I've gotten used to the company in here.
20 minutes eliptical and 20 minutes stair stepper this morning. I love crosstrain day. It is nice to do something besides running. |
I'm here!
I woke up early enough this morning, but still didn't get anything in. I don't think I'm a morning workout kind of person, unless I can do it at like 10. Last night I split up cardio by doing about 20 min on eliptical and then most of my weights, went back to the treadmill to run 20min before finishing the weights. I feel like I did just okay on weights--I wish I had tried to do one more set of crunches and some more lunges. I'll go to the gym again tonight after work for a longer moderate cardio. Last night I was going fairly fast and my heartrate was a little too high for a few minutes. I have noticed that my recovery is a lot quicker now though and my resting heartrate is much better than it was 3 months ago. |
Hi! I left work early yesterday, intending to go home and work out, and then I was feeling sort of blah (I get motion sick on the subway) and ended up not working out at all.
I will get to the gym today though - it is my weight-lifting day, and i need to keep up with that because it is too easy for me to ignore weights in favor of all cardio. You guys are doing great with your running! I officially signed up for a 5k for November 19th. So now i have to practice running! Talk to you later! |
You girls are completely putting me to shame.
I thought I was starting to get better yesterday... I walked for 90 minutes and felt really good. :hat: Last night I started coughing again... didn't get much sleep, and woke up dizzy, wheezing and coughing. :( curses!!! When will I EVER get better!! Anyhow, I'm VERY impressed with all your hard work, girls. :cheer: :cheer: |

I wanted to run my 2 miles a little faster, but i got this horrid stitch in my side and couldn't run it out. I had to slow down and walk for about 90 seconds. Ellis - I hope you feel better soon. DH caught a cold from somewhere, He woke me up early this morning with his coughing and hacking. He had better not get me sick! Question - have any of you had your heart start going really fast while weight-lifting? I finished my chest presses and was starting to do flys, and my heart all of a sudden felt like it was racing so fast. It made me a little nervous. It stopped after maybe a minute. |
Ellis, I'm so sorry you're still under the weather! Keep that vitamin C up and drink lots of water! I just read an article yesterday at the gym about exercising with a cold and it said that during a moderate walk, your immune system gets a burst of energy and starts working more efficiently but then it goes back to normal shortly after you stop. So does that mean you just have to keep walking to feel better?
Fishwoman, I've felt my hr go up during weights, but I do weights after I run too, so my hr is already a little elevated. One time I felt sort of lightheaded, but that was after a 45 min run--i ended up just skipping most of the weights that time. Last night I checked my pulse after both my cardios and let my pulse drop to below my target range--it was still at about 120, but I had let it get up to 165 during the fastest part of the cardio. Also, what kind of sets are you doing? It's likely just a fluke thing, but you might check your weight and the 3 of reps and sets and how quickly you're going through them. I've really got to step it up if I'm going to make my goals for this month. I didn't think I was slacking, but I guess I have been b/c I'm not even halfway to my goals. |
Good morning ladies!
Ellis, I have always heard that if it is a cold from the shoulders up you can exercise no problem. If it is from the shoulders down (chest/lungs) you should rest. I always feel better if I make myself do a little exercise. Glad you made it to the gym FishWoman. I have never had a problem with my heart rate when doing weights. Be careful! Hey Mel, I bet you can make your goals. Look at them now and figure out what needs to be done each day to hit them. YOU CAN DO IT! So I did 35 minutes of hills this morning, boy! that is hard. Then I did both upper/lower body weights. I may ride my bike at lunch. I love fall! |
chatty kathy today!
Well, my goal was to get in 45min of cardio and then try to work toward my strength goals. I ran 30min at a 5.3 avg and then had to break it down to running and walking for another 20min at a 4.2 avg. I thought it was okay. I needed to get home though--there's never enough time!
I tried to do some crunches, but I got on the incline bench and did 2 and realized that my abs were BURNING! Still sore from Monday's crunches. They're still sore today and I hope I can get some more crunches in for tonight's workout. I guess if I'm going to hurt I might as well tack on an extra set while I'm there b/c now I need to avg 28 crunches a day to make my goal. I'm going to try for 75 tonight and expect to not be able to do any tomorrow! I may do 50 on the incline bench and 25 on the ball. The incline bench is much harder and I think that's what's really tearing them up. I did get in some more pushups though! I forgot about them so I did them right before bed. 37! Tonight I'm going to try for 40 (they're tough!) I also have the rest of my weights tonight. I'm probably going to do a lighter set today and then really work them on Friday night b/c dd is having a "kids night in" so I can take more time for my workout. I'm going for 30min cardio and then weights. I might do cardio on elliptical. |
I ran on the treadmill this afternoon. 4 miles in 42 minutes 23 seconds :tread: but i am claiming 47 total minutes of exercise as I walked until then to cool down and stop feeling like I was going to :barf: .
My chest and shoulders are sooo sore from weights yesterday. Ugh. I am going to stick with it though. If I can lift 2x/weekly this entire month, maybe I will boost up to 3x/weekly next month. Melra - 37 pushups! In a row? Dang, girl, you are strong! I know what you mean about the incline bench for situps. I did 12 yesterday on the bench, and the remaing 4 1/2 minute of abs just on the floor. Melissa - did you get your bike ride in? Way to go with running the hills! Ellis - are you feeling better? Take care of yourself! |
Thanks, girls. :grouphug: Just got back from seeing my doctor. I have a bronchial infection, and I've got a bunch of meds. :) I'm so glad I went! Hopefully this'll clear up soon, and I can start exercising again! (oh, YAY!! :lol3: )
Keep it up, girls!! You're SO inspiring!! :cheer: |
Ellis, take care of yourself, girl! Anything with the lungs is scary to me. My mom ended up in intensive care needing surgery last year with what she though was a sinus infection that because pneumonia. :goodvibes:
I ran 6 miles before I had to go to work at 7am! I ran it in 78:22 which is 5 minutes faster than two weeks ago! :jig: I will stop at the gym on the way home to do upper/lower body strength training. I can't seem to fit in the abs work the way I want to, but I have started doing crunches and stuff while my daughter and I sing at her bedtime. I can fit in quite a few while we sing ABC's, Twinkle Twinkle, Row Row Row your boat, Baa Baa Black sheep and more. It is quite the spectacle. ;) Have a good weekend! :flow1: |
Oops. I was *supposed* to lift weights yesterday, but didn't. I did do my Crunch Pilates dvd though, so at least I exercised! I will have to lift weights today instead.
Melissa - 6 miles! Way to go!!! Okay - back from the gym. I lifted for 17 minutes, did abs for 5 minutes and then ran 2 miles on the treadmill in 20:50. And, guess what!?!? When I got back to the office, my husband had left me a message saying that I received my acceptance letter into the D.C. Bar! I will be sworn in in mid-November! I am very excited about this as I applied back in March. Now I can have the disclaimer taken off of my business cards! (which currently say down at the bottom "not licensed to practice law in the district of columbia). And! My husband has a job interview next week! I will try to check in this weekend and see how everyone is doing. Happy Monday! :dz:
My car didn't start this morning, so I got to the gym a little late. I was only able to fit in 40 minutes running (10:1 interval) and upper body weights. I am hoping I can stop at the gym on my way home and get in the lower body. |
Good morning all! Melissa, did you and your husband go out friday? Or did you end up staying home to watch the world series? Great start for a monday morning girl!
I have to see how today goes to know whether I will go to the gym at lunch or after work. So far, i am pretty slow though. *** 10/01 - 10/07 = 380 minutes 10/08 - 10/14 = 214 minutes 10/15/05 - 10/21 = 303 minutes 10/22/05 - 30 minutes on elliptical 10/23/05 - 30 minute walk outside 10/24/05 - 10/25/05 10/26/05 10/27/05 10/28/05 10/29/05 10/30/05 10/31/05 |
Just got back from a brisk, 90 minute walk! :hat:
I'm trying to find my running magazine... OH!! My DH just found it!! I'm hoping to start my program (walk/run) later this week, assuming my cough continues to clear. :) Good going, girls!! :cheer: :cheer: |
We went out on Saturday to dinner (Gibson's Steak House - Yum!) and to see Wicked, then we spent the night in downtown Chicago. It was wonderful. Thanks for asking.
So, sometimes car trouble works out for good. When I left to go home and switch cars back with my DH they told me not to worry about coming back. (I would have only had about 40 minutes left to work when I got back.) So I went home, then left again and went to the gym. I got my lower body workout in, then had some extra time so I did 30 minutes on the eliptical too! What a great exercise day. I know it will be challenge while I am at my sisters, so I am cramming it in now. |
I really, really, really didn't want to get out of bed this morning. But I did. ;)
I got to the gym later than I wanted. I knew I had extra time today so I wanted to do 60 minutes of cardio, but I only had time for 40 minutes on the stair machine. Tomorrow is Treadmill Hill time and weights. Thursday I will be in New Hampshire, but it is normally a rest day. Friday, I should be able to run my 8 miles (!) outside while my daughter plays with her cousins. If I can control my eating while I am there I should be okay. |
I ended up doing my "Crunch Pilates" dvd last night when I got home. Today it is weights/abs/2 mile run day.
Blah - it is cold and rainy out. *** 10/01 - 10/07 = 380 minutes 10/08 - 10/14 = 214 minutes 10/15/05 - 10/21 = 303 minutes 10/22/05 - 30 minutes on elliptical 10/23/05 - 30 minute walk outside 10/24/05 - 45 minute crunch pilates dvd 10/25/05 10/26/05 10/27/05 10/28/05 10/29/05 10/30/05 10/31/05 |
See now, FishWoman - I love cold and rainy. It is the best for a run outside or a long bike ride. Dressed appropriately, of course.
Hills this morning! 38 minutes of them on the treadmill. Whee! Then I did both upper and lower body strength training. I leave for my sister's house in New Hamshire this afternoon. |
I lifted weights and did a bunch of leg exercises late last night (between 8:45 and 9:20 p.m. I wanted to get some cardio in, but knew if i did i would never get to sleep). Today i am supposed to run 4 miles. I might end up just doing the elliptical. we shall see. I know it won't happen until after work because during lunch i have an appointment to get my mangy eyebrows waxed. But, i do walk back and forth to the salon, which is a 20 minute walk each way.

Arrgh! Wednesday and Thursday were absolutely crazy at work. Wednesday I ended up taking work home around 9 p.m. and working at home until 4 a.m. Then back in the office at 9 a.m. Yesterday I left work at 8:30 p.m. All that aside, I did manage to get two 20-minute walks in each day. I am behind on my running, and behind on my weight lifting, but at least I am doing something.
Just returned from the gym - i just did 30 minutes on the elliptical. I am tired today. I know Melissa was going up to New Hampshire (what, no computers in NH? ;) ) But where is Melra? And Ellis, where is Ellis? Wow, only 4 more days to boost up our montly exercise totals! This month has gone by fast. I'm here, dah'ling.
Still sick. :( I've just about had it with this bronchitis. I'm going to get on the treadmill or bike today if it kills me. You're doing great, girl... keep it up!! :hat: You're all doing well!! :cheer: |
I am home! Hooray! :carrot:
I did my 8 mile run on Friday morning. Well, at least I hope it was 8 miles. We pulled up a map using the google maps pedometer, but it had a new street that wasn't completed. So I ran for 106 minutes. My last 6 mile run was 78, I think and I usually run about a 13 minute mile. But I run faster outside than the treadmill. So I figured 78 + 26 would be 104 so hopefully it was 8 miles. ;) My sister does have a computer Fishy, but it is soooooooooo slow that it just isn't worth logging on very often. We stay pretty busy with all the kiddies! My eating wasn't perfect, but I think I did okay. I am waiting to see what the scale at the gym says in the morning. I won't be too excited or worried either way. I got my period while I was gone plus all the air travel messes with my body too. Where is Melra?! |
