I do hope to mature in my healthy eating patterns to where I don't need to log food. Would you go back to it if you found yourself eating with abandon? Or just experiencing surprise gains?

No, never. Rewards, accountability and logging have brought me nothing but self doubt, anxiety and low self esteem. Now I trust myself much much more and allowing myself to eat with abandon has proved to be the most mature decision I've ever made. All that stuff made me gain weight anyway.
