bulimia

Hello : My name is Hilde and am 57 years young.
I can no believe that I am bulimic and at this age yet.But it didnt start at this age.
I am trying very hard to control myself anylonger. I have lost 45 lbs over a lot of years and still need to loose 20.
I just think all my life I had low self esteem and have been sick most of my life with a Vascular disease.
It now has come to stop this destructive behavior. And at this age.
I wonder if anyone has any advice for me.
Hilde

Hi Hilde... what a lovely name. My name is Lori and I'm 46. Wow you have done so well with your weight loss, but it sounds like it was a pretty rough journey. I'm sorry you have health issues. I can so relate to being fed-up with illness. I've had 3 bouts with cancer but have finally slipped into remission. It has not yet settled into my brain that I might be cancer free.... I struggled with bulemia during college and was fine for so many years. Unfortunately once I was on chemo I gained a lot of weight. Some of my drugs were steroids...very nasty. I almost welcomed the chemo nausea but soon found myself purging. I trained my body to purge at the slightest trigger and wow what a monster I created:devil: :dizzy:  I am slowly recovering and as you know it is not easy. I"ve talked to therapists but have never had a girlfriend that I've shared this horrible secret with. What a heavy burden we carry. This forum has really helped me. I've been on the Sugar Busters program. It is very common sense and not hard to do. I definitely have the surgar addiction... Please don't be so concerned about your age. If you are like me you look at that face in the mirror and wonder how she got there when you feel like a girl:shrug: I don't think our spirits age at all. I know that my healing started when I really forgave myself for mistreating my body. Possibly you need to treat yourself with the kindness that I'm sure you pour out on others..
I don't have many answers for you Hilde but I sure have a compassionate ear. I know we can both heal...hang in there sweety and do something nice for YOU today... Lori

Ay, chica...

Hilde,
Hey, my name is Danni, and I'll be 16 soon. I first start the whole binge-purge cycle when I was 12. I have only recently started to recover.
I know I'm a lot younger than you, but I know that some encouragement is better than none - my family and I stopped getting along long ago, and they've never really supported me.
Anyway, I just wanted to say that I hope everything works out for you - good luck with the 20 final pounds! You've made it this far!
-Danni
