:( I'm a failure.

I'm not sure if this is the right place to put this but, here goes..

I just now totally pigged out, and ruined my whole diet. I had eaten all I was supposed to have all day, and I was doing good, just drinking my christal light. I get so bored at home alone at night- my husband is at work, and my daughter is spending the night with my mother-in-law. Just a little while ago I started to feel snacky, not even really hungry, I just get bored really and reach for some food. This time I reached for an entire half a pack of oscar mayer cheese wieners. I didn't even think about what I was doing, it was just a habit reaction, I guess.

This is the point where I'm usually like "F-it" and just quit the whole thing.

You didn't ruin your whole diet, it was one bad meal. Tomorrow is a new day. Everyone has days where they don't do well on their diet, and this will hardly matter if you get right back on the wagon. If you do that by tomorrow think of how could you will feel! You can do this :-)

oksanella 05-05-2012 01:04 AM

I tottaly did the same thing today. Dont feel bad . Start fresh tomorrow.

KYMommy2011 05-05-2012 01:07 AM

Thank you. I just know that this is going to show up on the scale tomorrow. :/ Why is it that it takes so much work to lose the weight, and one little mishap can take it all back? Seems a little unfair to me.

But you know what- you're right. I've only lost 5 lbs so far, but those 5 lbs felt really good! I'm not giving up this feeling without a fight. lol

oksanella 05-05-2012 01:13 AM

you wait till u loose 10 lbs + you are going to feel like u are flying ( i lost 60 lbs before having my child now its all back and my child is 3 lol)

KYMommy2011 05-05-2012 01:22 AM

lol I can't wait.

KYMommy2011 05-05-2012 03:29 AM

I just want to say I love this 3FC thing. I started out feeling like totally poop, and ended up feeling better than ever thanks to you sweet people. I should have started this a long time ago!

Candeka 05-05-2012 03:41 AM

Today was the "new start" to my calorie counting since I've taken a break since March (even tho it wasn't planned.. I just fell into a funk".... and as I am writing this I am eating a nice heaping bowl of icecream with chocolate chips.

I completely understand how you feel. I wish I could actually get angry at myself tho. Maybe that would make me stop reaching for the damn icecream LOL!

PghGal 05-05-2012 11:04 AM

I'm taking a break from my plan this weekend ... too many social events and no way I can possibly calorie-count all of the foodstuff, so I'm giving myself a break.

I'll be back on track Monday morning ...

Don't sweat it. Allow yourself to take bad days and bad meals in stride. Just pick yourself back up the next day! Life happens ... just keep moving forward and don't let mistakes discourage you. :D

We tend to think that we are either "on a diet" or "off a diet", and we should be thinking always of a food plan. If we think of ourselves as "on a diet", the minute we eat something we shouldn't we are "off the diet", and that new state may make us go on eating unhealthy food. If instead we think of a food plan, we may think "well, this was not in the plan", but the plan is still there for us to follow it. There are many habits it is difficult to forget and others which are difficult to take up, but if you try each and every day, we can do it! Being in control of our eating somehow gets to order the rest of our lives, and that feels great!

So, a 1/2 pack of the cheese dogs is what... 5 or 6 of them? They are 150 calories each, so at most you ate an extra 800 calories. Assuming you were aiming to eating at a 500 calorie deficit (though I don't actually know) you only ate an extra 300 calories... IF you didn't do any exercise today.

So, what is 300 calories? 1 pound is 3500 of them, so you *might* have gained 1/11 of a pound or so? Soooo not a big deal. You're beating yourself up over something that wont even show up on your body unless the sodium causes you to retain some water.

I know the emotional dissapointment is the tough part; you feel like a failure, but WHY? What did that little slip up really do to you? Absolutely nothing. Just pick yourself up and keep going.

SJKduke 05-05-2012 02:06 PM

I would worry more about the sodium--chug a ton of water and it'll flush your system out and you'll feel a LOT better. I had a major mess up earlier today to the tune of something that had 40 grams of FAT! Yuck! In the process of trying to flush it out...ugh.

Learning a new way of eating I feel is similar to learning to ride a bike for the first time. I remember when my brother was trying to teach me how to ride his BMX bike -- I was 6 or 7. I already knew how to ride a bike (just like I already knew how to eat food), but it took me a week in order to learn how to balance myself on my brother's larger bike. I fell off a lot and sometimes couldn't go more than a few squares of sidewalk. But in order to learn, you have to get back on the bike. I didn't give up, and at the end of a week I was riding the bike all by myself.

So, like learning to ride a bike, you have to learn how to work with your diet. If you fall off, don't give up, just get back on and continue learning to ride! :) Soon, you'll learn how to control your cravings and be able to pick something healthier to eat if you need to eat.

Did you eat them cold or did you cook them? I ask this because you said you didn't even know what you were doing...but if you took the time to cook them, then I'd say that maybe you knew what you were doing. If you ate then cold right from the fridge, then I'd say it was total mindless eating and if you really want to stop it, then you need to get all junk food and easy access foods out of the house. Good luck on your journey. Getting over obstacles like this is hard, but it can be done.

KYMommy, you know what's been helping A LOT of water. I hear it's a natural appetite suppresant, anyway, it's working. I bought one of the 24 ounce Tervis Tumblers and drink four of those a day. It's not really 96 ounces because of the ice, but I think it's probably close to 80. At first it was hard to do, but now I just mindlessly sip on it all day. I'm a stay at home mom, so I am near a restroom which might be a problem if you are out though. The water goes straight through ya.

Natasha22 05-07-2012 09:32 PM

KYMommy, you didn't ruin your diet and you are definitely not a failure! When you make a mistake or fall of the wagon, you have to dust yourself off and get right back up. Each mistake can be turned into an opportunity to learn something new and evolve. The same goes with dieting and fitness: so you’ve exceeded you daily calorie allowance. It’s not the end of the world, the only way to overcome failure is to view it as an entry point for learning.

Stay strong, you can do this! *hugs*

jendiet 05-07-2012 11:34 PM

I feel your pain, I would do that with ice cream bars. I love them but binge on them. I usually lose my mind and GET MAD at my child or my SO, and dig in without realizing it. Big hugs. Remember these calories will add up to another lb on your body if you don't seize control over your behavior.

if you want you can post in the binge accountability thread I started. I think alot of us NEED accountability for EXACTLY what we are eating.

did you eat a whole pack of weiners? How many calories was it? How do you feel about gaining weight from that?

Heather157 05-08-2012 12:06 AM

I've been there! One thing that helps for me is to keep a food log and write down everything I eat BEFORE I eat it. If I really still want to eat that package of 6 cheese weiners, i do it, but only after being accountable to myself and being honest with myself about what it's going to do for my calories for the day.

Remember, it's not about 1 day. It's about stringing together more good days than bad. Try not to be hard on yourself. Just pick up and move on and commit to making better choices moving forward! Blaming yourself will only make you feel bad and overeat!

clownfish13 05-08-2012 12:06 PM

It's probably too late but my advice is to not weigh yourself the next day. A week is more what you should be looking at. Over a week, one meal isn't going to make a difference. It's not a failure if you go off plan. It's a failure if you stay off. It's always a win when you get back up. You are a winner, keep fighting.

Agreed. When I struggled with binge eating I had other issues with food, so I pretty much only had veggies in my house...I binged on them too, but they didn't affect my weight as much as my self-esteem.

For the time being, maybe the best thing is to not have junk food readily available. I'll add that I was able to get over the binge eating once I ate enough calories throughout my day. I did that by planning ahead.

Good luck!

KYMommy2011 05-08-2012 02:36 PM

I bought the weiners because I love them, and I thought since they aren't THAT bad in the calorie and carb area (IF I eat only 1 or 2) I could eat them when I need something to calm me down if I'm craving fattening food. But, it didn't work out too good, because instead of eating 1 or 2, I ate 5!
I'm back on the wagon again, hoping that this weight I've gained is only water weight. I'm hitting the crystal light, and the exercise bike hard today!
