What is a binge?

I was just wondering?
I don't know if I have a binge problem. I have lost weight counting calories. I have maintained so far without counting calories but I have been getting off track. Even when losing weight I had really good days and days where I splurged, or had high calorie days. I never gave up though because I knew one day, or every so often would not ruin my progress.
But I've been having more frequent of those days lately and was wondering if they are "binges"?
Like, one week my mom bought a carton of my favorite ice cream and I ate the entire box in 3 days. (that is 12 or so servings) If I remember right, I might have skipped a meal, like lunch and ate ice cream as my lunch. Is that a binge?
Then on Sunday we ordered a pizza and subs from a pizza place. I ate 1/2 of my sub and 2 pieces of pizza...is that a binge?
I've just been wondering if these bad habits are binges. I guess I thought that a binge was when you ate the entire X of Y in like one sitting....like if I ate the entire box of ice cream at once or the entire bag of chips or whatever at once and then even moved onto other foods...like go from chips to ice cream, from ice cream to cake. Or even eating foods that I don't like, even condiments like mayo from the container...

In my opinion, a binge is eating a lot of food in a short amount of time without thinking about it.

I think it involves eating way more of something than you know is right, feeling like you can't stop, and feeling guilty about if afterwards.

"Binge" suggests a total loss of control with a strong emotional component, like a junkie desperately seeking a fix.

You might get a couple different definitions, but a binge to me implies some sort of loss of control. Using food as a way to hide some sort of emotion, or a mental disconnect and using food as a self-medicating drug. Not just eating a lot of calories.

"loss of control" as lovely said, and there is no hunger involved. Just the opposite, actually. Just feeding a feeling, not a hunger.

IMO you just overate. There are a lot of complex emotions that are involved with binging, a complete loss of control. You can goolge binge eating disorder to get a more medical definition, but from you described, I would say a little overeating and maybe a little complancency.

I agree with ncuneo, it was just overeating. I've done that, even while being "good" with counting points. I'm not sure I've ever really binged either but the descriptions given here are more what I'd consider a binge than what you have done.

I agree with all the above. Binging is a form of compulsion...as in an inexplainable need to do something that is potentionally harming with reckless abandon.
