Oa?
Do any of you attend face-to-face Overeaters Anonymous meetings? I have been thinking about it a lot lately, and just wondered if any of you have had good (or bad) experiences with it. I'm still not sure if I want to or not, but the thought enters my mind more and more lately. What do y'all think?
Thanks! |
There is an OA forum that you might get better results with if you posted this in there. http://www.3fatchicks.com/forum/over...-anonymous-61/
I have been to OA but I had a hard time relating to the other members, partly because they told me in order to stay abstinent I had to cut certain foods from my diet I didn't understand that because I read this in the literature, "abstinence is "the action of refraining from compulsive eating.". I somehow think this meeting wasn't a traditional meeting but it's the only one available in my area. It might have been because I just wasn't ready for it. I definitely qualify for OA. I've been considering going back but I just haven't made the step to do it. The other problem I had with the meeting I went to was it seemed like no one there was abstinent for over 2-3 weeks at a time, they also seemed to focus on food a lot instead of focusing on recovery. I think I just had a bad experience. |
I was actually thinking of going to one in my neighborhood last night, but chickened out--so I'd love to hear about other experiances as well!

Thanks, ladies! I know there is an online group here - but I think an in-person group would be much more beneficial. I will let y'all know if I decide to check one out near me!
hpnodat, I'm so sorry you had a bad experience. I think that is what I'm worried about - being scared off after my first visit! |
