Assuming that one of the first best ploys is NOT to bring the tempting stuff into your house, how do you argue with yourself against buying that pint of icecream (or 2) while you're actually AT the grocery store?
I'm new today, been flirting with Atkins since New Year's Eve and am down 5 lbs already. Have at least 70 more to go! I've upped my walking, and have no trouble eating the foods on the regimen, but I'm still terrified of impulse eating!
Someone in another thread suggested that rather than try to explain away the "eating for comfort" thing, I should just "own" it whenever I give in to the impulse and recognize that I made a conscious choice when I ate what I ate.
She said that everything comes down to making intelligent choices, and I agree - but how could someone as intelligent as me NOT be able to make intelligent choices. She still said "it doesn't matter why you overeat - just that you choose NOT to"! So simplistic. S I G H. Anyway, I'd love to know how those of you who've had some success dealing with binge eating actually make conscious decisions not to eat. Somebody in this thread said she simply tells herself "it's only a piece of cake - I can have another piece of cake some time in my life, just not today!" Boy, is my hat off to her! So - let's have some solutions! How do I avoid the icecream aisle in the supermarket?
