Is there any help for someone with BED?
I was recently diagnosed with binge eating disorder and I was wondering if there are any support forums?:?:

I need help. I feel like I can't stop bingeing and overeating. I want to change, but I keep making the same mistakes. Where do you find the will power? The motivation? I feel like I KNOW what I need to do, now I just need to do it! Support? Advice? Anyone share similar experience?

Not saying this will work for everyone, but it helped a lot for me. I confided in a couple of my friends about my BED and made a rule for myself that I must tell those friends every time I binge. The secrecy of my binging behavior was always a big enabler for me. The idea of telling my friends was soooo embarassing. I didn't stop overnight, but it helped a lot. At my worst, I was bingeing 2-4 nights a week. My last binge was a little over a week ago, but I can't even remember the one before that. 1 a month would be a lot for me at this point.
Also, if you have access to therapy, I suggest using it. There are a lot of emotional issues wrapped up in BED and you would likely benefit from professional support. I did not go to a therapist... but I probably should have. |
I feel your pain -was in that mode for years. You could look into a great thread here about what motivated each of you/us to get started losing weight -lots of stories and ideas.
Some people can just throw themselves into a program, others need to join a group or a specific diet plan, others start making small changes to start with -a bit more exercise or giving up junk/fast food. Food delivery service? ,low carb, just counting calories (need lots of willpower for this one imo)Weight Watchers- lots of choices...Are you the type of dieter that needs the structure of a diet which spells out what you can and can't have - do you like the idea of being accountable for weekly weigh-ins or the privacy of an online buddy support system -thankfully there are lots of options. My suggestion would be to figure out a plan of weight loss and set a realistic date to get started -use the time leading up to that date planning and preparing whatever tools/shopping you need to have at hand -so that you're ready to go on that date. It's easy to say I'll start after New Year's - but if you don't have the right foods at home - it becomes too big a challenge to begin -and the one thing ALL of us who are losing weight have in common is that we all took that first step. Now what will your first step be????? Best of luck -believe me - getting started can be the hardest part -but it's one of the best things you can do for yourself -we're here for you -please let us know how you're doing -L. |
